The reception, is open from 7am to 7pm only. Has a very small standing area. in the reception. Very poo service and i mean it as my hotel expectations are low, as we are more interested in the city than the hotel. So if you are going out for the day dont bother leaving your key at the reception There is one compter in the lobby with internet connection and has a long que of people waiting to use. (wifi in rooms dont work) Its not a hotel as such but more like a B&B. For a family of four our room and bathroom were very spacious. ..but no fan with temps reaching 31 - 35 while we were there. We requested fan but no one bothered, couldnt open windows as it was extremely noisy: traffic, people and workman starting 7 am. We were there for 5 nights so they had plenty of time to sort the fan out!!!! bed sheets wee not changed for 5 days but charged standard daily rate: how does that work?. bed covers ripped, rug on floor twisted and we kept tripping. Hotel must be good once upon a time but now run down.
Location as such was very good, next to the castle, underground, taxi, tram, 5 min. Charles bridge 5 min. Much nicer and quiter area than the otherside of Charles bridge Breakfast and room sizes were good. Dont really need to take metro, you can walk every where or else you'll miss out. Too many souvinier shops all selling same stuff, similar prices. Good glass shop between McDonalds and charles bridge with very simple entrance and no souviniers outside...cant remember the name but on the same side as McDonalds, (same items twice the price across the road). Unlike England, museum shops are cheaper for postcards and magnets are cheaper. Overall shopping is better on the castle side of the bridge as 90% of tourist hang around bars and restaurants on the other side. Nice restaurants are under the bridge. If you have time hire the paddle boat; 1 hrs is 200 K and worth every penny. Subway does really good coffee, Monastry grounds are good (views breath taking) but not worth going inside: 2 rooms with a video! but its Litrary is nice again too room but you cant go inside., after paying tickets they charge extra 50 k (£2) for taking pictures. Golden Lanes Ok but the best are the churches most of them charge.
Metro,: charged on time time tiket rather than no. of trips 1/2 hr adult 26 K (£1) enough time for few stops, i.e short journey but need to validate time as you enter or you are fined. Every thing has a charge even the toilets, but just walking around you see so much, evry square is unique, evry turn is full of surprise, keep looking up when walking or you'll miss out something , llots and ots of history, very unsuall city .....love it
p.s Airport transfer use aaa taxi or Prague airport transfer 550K with excellent free prague guided tour (hotel one is very expensive 780 k))

Room Tip: our room faced the rd/ reception corner maybe other rooms are quiter but real issue iwas the fan

We really would like to know where some of these so callrd reviewers stayed because it wasn't where we were. Yes it is antiquey and at first quaint but when you find that the towels are ripped, no plug in the basin, TV does not work, certainly no bathrobes supplied, almost inaccessible shower (pity the larger guests that may be given the room we had), and to our horror after a day out the window left open (which we certainly had shut) in a room leading off the main courtyard where the loud speaking staff used to assemble several times a day. The beds were uncomfortable and hard and one felt rather repressed by the crucifix and holy pictures considering the different religions (or non) of guests. The so called high speed internet is certainly a misnomer in a dark dingy corner, with a light that went on when it felt like it. I would say it was an original and barely functioning. Yes it is old and in a lovely part of Prague but after a lovely day sightseeing in this beautiful city too rustic and uncomfortable. We are not novice travellers but this hotel only scores a 1 - that is never to return! Good luck to future guests, don't expect to be called by name, you are known as a room number. By the way prepare to be admonished if you don't book a trip with them as we had booked a trip to Cesny Krumlov on line before leaving Australia.

This was my 5th stay at the Waldstein; the 1st was in 2000. I've loved the location, in the heart of Mala Strana and yet very quiet. I've loved the renaissance cellar where breakfast is served. I've always been in the "annex," and thus have had occasional glimpses of the people who still have apartments in the building--a combination of being in an historic building with a sense of authentic contemporary Prague. But this last stay: the badly leaking shower, the worn carpet, the poorly working wifi in the lobby and none in my room, the safe too small for my netbook, the reception not manned after 7 pm, and (since a previous reviewer had complained of objects stolen from the open window of an annex room, and I was on the ground level) no air circulation--I can no longer rave about the Waldstein. It seems that Ave is letting this property slide and emphasizing other properties. The room was booked at a very good rate, but I didn't get more than I paid for.

Room Tip: Ask for a room above ground level.

The room was really nice if weird because the 2 twin beds were arranged foot to foot. The staff was helpful and breakfast was good. A bit loud at night due to neighboring bar and echoing courtyard. There is no lift.

The hotel is in a quiet and historic area of Prague but well within easy walking distance of the main attractions including the castle and Charles bridge. There are lots of restaurants and bars near by which makes the hotel the perfect retreat after a busy day sightseeing. The room was clean, comfortable and quiet and the breakfast plentiful and tasty, what more could you ask for?
