Hotel Anna is located in the Vinohrady area of Prague which is much quieter and subdued than some of the more touristy areas. This provides visitors a more local feel to the city. Public transportation is only a 5-10 minute walk and Wenceslas Square a 15-20 minute walk from the hotel. The Anna Hotel is a great value as we pre-paid our stay and garnered a decent discount. Rates include a pretty good breakfast that consists of typical European fare of cold cuts, a variety of breads, jams/jellies, cheeses, pastries, yogurt, cereals, juice, coffee/tea, and eggs. Found the breakfast to be very tasteful and satisfying. Only complaint is that on several occasions towards the end of the serving time they ran out of several items (pastries and yogurt) and never replenished them.
The hotel is a small boutique style venue with a friendly and helpful bi-lingual staff. The room is larger than most European hotels with ample closet/drawer space, a safe and air conditioning. The bathroom had a nice tub/shower combination with strong pressure and plenty of hot water. The only knock is that the bathroom amenities were rather sparse. The shower gel/shampoo come in small plastic tear-away packets which we found cumbersome to open and the quantity of the gel was quite meager which required using a number of packets to lather up. A better idea would be to provide dispensers in the shower area for these products. The bed was very comfortable, save for the pillow which was large but very flat and not fluffy. Nonetheless, we considered these minor inconveniences and it did not detract from our positive experience at the hotel.
The room itself, as well as the hotel in general, is very clean and well maintained and housekeeping was always completed in a timely manner. There is a computer room located downstairs from the reception area which you need to obtain a key from reception to gain access. Since there is only one computer, at times it was difficult to access this room as there is no set time limit for its use and some guests utilized the computer for extended periods.
There are several very good local restaurants in the area serving traditional Czech meals. It was a great experience dining with locals and being part of their environment - not to mention the excellent food and reasonable prices.
In summary, we found the Anna Hotel to be very quiet, comfortable, clean, and a good value. No, it’s not the Ritz Carlton or the Four Seasons, but it has a great deal of local character to it coupled with an efficient, friendly, helpful, and bi-lingual staff. For anyone seeking a small boutique style hotel away from the tourist areas this is a great venue and I highly recommended it.
