This was our second stay at the Melantrich, and once again I am convinced that you won't find a better location in Prague. We had booked in advance via the hotel's webpage (look around, if you find the right place, there is a chance for a huge discount), wich meant that we got a double room for five nights for 290 euros and a single room for 270 euros. We had also asked to be able to check in early as we would get there at about 10 am. When we got there there was a bit of a problem with two guests checking out (their card reader didn't work), and we had to wait for a while before being serviced. As their other rooms weren't ready and cleaned, we ended up getting the (only) suite wich had a view over both the Melantrichova street and the Havelska (market street). It was huge with separate bedroom, sofa, dining table, bar and fridge, bathroom with tub etc. As we were travelling with our baby girl and my husband's sister, we could not have been more lucky to get this room where we could have our baby sleep her naps in the bedroom whilst the rest of us relaxed in the living room.
As I wrote in my last review of this hotel, breakfast was of very poor quality and not worth eating. The selection was indeed varied, but the quality was so bad we did't eat our breakfast there. In stead we supplied ourselves with juice, milk, cheeses, jam, fresh bread etc. at the local "Albert"-grocery closte to the hotel, and ate at our room.
In all, we would definently return to this hotel, and we might even book the suite in advance just for the view from our windows!
Oh, and we had absolutely NO problems with the noise from the nightclub, though more sensitive people might make in a problem - bring ear plugs ;-)

This hotel is, as other reviewers have said, slightly on the basic/shabby side in places, but it is good value for a city centre hotel. Good points were a nice bathroom (though very small), decent mattresses, friendly and helpful staff, very central location, and it was clean. Bad points were relatively minor. The internet in the lobby wasn't working for the four days I was there. My TV didn't work, though they fixed that within a day. One of the ceiling lights didn't always work. No clock radio or hairdryer in the rooms, though you could get a hairdryer from the lobby. I was on the top floor facing away from the street but could still hear distant disco music from somewhere on the Friday night. The breakfast was OK, though their dining room wasn't big enough when a coach party decided to all go down at the same time (and the staff were struggling to replace clean plates and cups, without a dishwasher). But overall it was a good place to stay, especially for the money and location. Only other thing - the hotel entrance is also for their nightclub and some apartments and it's not that clear how to get into the hotel itself (press one of the buzzers by the entrance to the apartment section). Come back late on a Friday or Saturday night and you will be accompanied by flashing multi-coloured disco lights as you go in, not an experience I think I've had in any other hotel.

The hotel is exactly as what previous visitors have been saying: it is in a good location with average amenities. It is not a new hotel but the bed, bathroom, bed covers, etc. are in an acceptable state. It is located in between Staroměstské náměstí and Václavské náměstí. Quite ideal then. The entrance of the hotel is shared with some apartments and a disco bar.

Stayed in this hotel with my girlfriend. Hotel is really nice and is in probably the best location in Prague. You can get everywhere by walk, fantastic indeed.

Hotel was clean and tidy. Stuff at the reception was always helpfull and kind. Get a lot of informations from them about the city and tourist attractions. Room wasn't that big, but on the other hand it was comfortable with nice decorations...Breakfast was fine and even if you came at closing time it's supplied with new stuff. Internet conection was nice adition, but didn't work one time. Otherwise no problem. My next stay in Prague is definitely in Melantrich again.

When people tell you that you are getting a great deal, make sure you know what type of people are telling you this. This hotel is a dump. The furnishings date back to before the fall of communism in the country, it has to be the hardest bed I have ever slept in, if you can call it sleep as they forget to mention that there is a nightclub in the basement of the building so you get to listen to the thump thump of Euro Trash dance music till wee hours in the morning. The wireless is crap as you cant keep a constant connection. The ice machine is broken etc. I could go on and on about the hotel but I will not bore you with anymore as I hope you get the picture. The only saving grace is the fact that it is centrally located in oldtown so that It makes walking around fairly easy.

We just return from a trip to Prague on March-13, 09. We stayed in Hotel Melantrich for 2 nights. Hotel location is good, few blocks from Old Town Square, and it is not even bore to walk for those few blocks (they are little shops all along). Room is clean. You got your basic furniture, no mini refrigrator or water boiler/coffee maker (you can rent one from the front desk). Room is pretty big, plenty of floor space to lay our luaggages opened. Bathroom is nothing fancy, sink, toilet and shower, also plenty of room to move around and CLEAN (yes, with towels and liquid soap). We were assigned to a room on 1st floor. No much problem with noise. You only hear when people are leaving/returning to their room. Staffs are quiet and polite. Buffet style breakfast is included in price and plenty to eat. I would recommend this hotel to those perfer good location without paying fortune.

This hotel's location is superb. Just 2-3 mins walk and you're in the lovely Old Town Sq. The Metro station is close too, approx 100 yards away. The staff at Hotel are helpful and efficient. There is no safe in the room but staff has a safe where they can look after your passport, etc. Breakfast had a nice variety containing lots of fruits and vegetables. Room was spacious and clean. Perfect hotel for holiday. Certainly recommend it.
