“Excellent location in Old Town”
Reviewed 23 May 2014 via mobile

Stayed 2 nights here in May 2014. Great location to the Old Town Square and Jewish museum. You can take the Tram 22 to the top of the Prague Castle instead of making the hike uphill. Better plan is to walk down across the St. George's Bridge. Very clean rooms with comfortable beds. We stayed on the 7th floor with a shared balcony. Beautiful views at night. Very good breakfast with plenty of variety. My one and only complaint was the second evening we were there a very rude waiter was working in the restaurant. Other staff were well aware of his rudeness so I am hoping he was reported to management. This would have been the evening of the 16th of May. I would recommend this hotel for a pleasant stay in Prague.

I had stayed here 4 nights with a friend.
The hotel is very good, friendly staff, good breakfast and it is really in the middel of the old centre.
The room was good, excellent bed. Nice Bardot and good cleaningservice.

Room Tip: I do not know if there are rooms on the backside. The room i had was on the streetsite. We were slee...

The hotel is excellently located, only a five minute walk from the old Town Square. We had beautiful rooms with a large shared balcony overlooking the river and the castle. The food and service were excellent.

I stayed an extended weekend at the Astoria and it was OK considering the hotel has a short distance to the main Prague historic places. Breakfast has a good variety but very crowded in the peak moments and without organization to be seated, This caused some unconfortable situations, depending on the guests education. Overall service and cleaning is good and room facilities as well. Weak point is the shower that was not working properly with the water coming in waves and sometimes very cold, Maybe again due to the number of guests using it. It looks like there were too many people for the hotel facilities.

We spent an enjoyable 4 nights at the Astoria. On arrival check in was completed quickly and we were shown to our room by a friendly porter. We had upgraded to a 7th floor room with a balcony; this proved to be a large comfortable room which was spotlessly clean. The mini bar and room safe were welcome bonuses.
We had asked for tea and coffee making facilities and these were provided at no extra charge. The bed was large and very comfortable and the extra pillow that we needed was quickly provided. Our balcony caught the afternoon sun and it was lovely to relax there with a drink after a long day sightseeing. However, if it was not warm enough to use the balcony, some comfortable chairs would have been welcome in the room itself given that we had upgraded. A selection of toiletries was provided and there was always plenty of hot water for showers. If we are being really picky, then the bath towels could have been larger; however, towels were changed daily and our bedding was changed half way through our 4 night stay.
On the whole breakfast was good with a wide selection of both hot and cold options. However, the buffet area was quite compact and at busy times it became overcrowded and the waitresses struggled to keep up with demand refilling empty platters. Having said that, the staff worked extremely hard clearing tables and refilling the buffet. Highlight of breakfast was the excellent coffee!
At the end of our stay we had an evening flight and were unable to keep our room because the hotel was full; however, the hotel stored our luggage securely until our pick up time at 5 pm. Also the hotel had arranged our taxis and these went very smoothly.

Location: in a quiet street within easy walking distance of the main tourist spots. Just turn left out of the hotel and keep going straight on and you reach Old Town Square in 5 minutes. Turn right and head for the Jewish Quarter and the river cruises.

Eating out: we avoided eating in Old Town Square and found excellent, reasonably priced restaurants. We can recommend Como on Wenceslaus Square, U Supu on Celetna, U Templaru just off Celetna (both with traditional Czech musicians), Metamorphis (Italian/Czech restaurant) and the Francouzska (look for the upstairs balcony). We would NOT recommend eating at the outside area of the Hotel U Prince, not far from the Astronomical Clock - they charge you 30 Czk each just to sit outside and then charge another 10% service charge on top! They don't tell you about this when you sit down or in the menu and the food and the service was distinctly average!

Some good general advice on food prices - look at the price of the beer first! Expensive beer means over-priced food! However, everything around Old Town Square is expensive - but worth it if you enjoy people watching near the Astronomical Clock!

Overall, Prague is a beautiful city and the Astoria is an ideal base to explore it. We would highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Floors 7 and 8 are bigger rooms with balconies, seating areas and views over the rooftops.

I stayed here with my wife on a three night break with BA, as part of the deal got a free night bonus. Very clean, great staff, good breakfast and great location for a short break in Prague. Only critisisms were a lack of power outlets right beside the bed to charge phones, room was a little warm and the weedy shower. Other than that and I am being very picky, great place that I'd use again.

First class hotel. Not the flashiest 4* but excellent staff & wonderful, quiet location. Went with Jet2 holidays and cannot fault their choice. Drinks & coffee always available, We were on the front, first floor and had no problems. We'd definitely stay here again.
