“Decent experience in a wonderful city”
Reviewed 10 September 2006

U Medvidku was a decent stay, but fell short of our expectations. It was very well located, in the Old Town just a few minutes' walk from the Astronomical Clock. The staff was friendly and mostly English-speaking, and there was Internet access in the lobby. However, we paid 10% extra to stay in an "historical room" which was large but plain, and did not match the look and feel of the website photos. The working in-house brewery was an attraction, but the "tour" consisted of us poking around the small facilities ourselves and then being treated to a complimentary 1/4 Liter beer. We had thoughts of switching accomodations after a few days, once we had a chance to really explore Prague, but decided that the convenience and location outweighed the Pension's lack of character. There is a really wonderful little wine & cheese bar just a few doors down that you have to check out.

  • Liked — Location, large room
  • Disliked — Room was very plain.

My girlfriend and I stayed at this place in March 2006 and it was a great deal. The location can't be beat, just minutes from the Old Square. Our first meal in Prague was in the Hotel restuarant; the traditional food was good and the BudVar was excellent.

This place served as a great home base for sightseeing; all the major sites of Prague are arrayed around the place and most are within walking distance.

We initially were going to move from here to another neighborhood to get a better feel of Prague and save a few bucks, but the prices were so fair that we extended our stay by a couple of days- twice. Because of this we actually saw three different rooms and definately recommend the very top floor if the stairs aren't a problem, as the only issue with the other rooms was noise from the street or restuarant.

The small bar located next door is great for a last beer after getting back from a long day of sightseeing, plus it's open late.

Just got back from a trip to this hotel. Location is great. 5 mins walk to Old Town Square and about 12 minutes to Charles Bridge. Tesco for small bits and bobs was great, about 2 minutes walk away.

The included breakfasts where ok - typical foods eg Hams, Cheese, Cereal, Apples and pastries. Fruit teas or coffee.

The Bar was a small place holding about 30 ish people but nice to relax in with the music channel on the tv screen. Good place to enjoy a Budvar beer :)We ate in the large wooden dining halls too 1 night....very atmospheric indeed. We also witnessed an "umpa" band on our last night but as we were not eating couldn't sit and listen to it in the main halls.

We visited the brewary and got a free sample of the own brewed beer...nice !!

Historical room was very large with a large bed ( a little hard and the bedding quite thin-if you go in cold season) but adequate. The ensuite bathroom was up a wooden staircase and was fine...shower quite good too :)Although, word of warning the towels are hard and thin too...but you get use to it ;)

All in-all this hotel was very good but a word of warning - if you struggle with stairs / steps this hotel is not for you. There is no lift and even to the top floor was quite a struggle for young fit people.....apart from this.........a great hotel.

We reccomend the taxi arrangment with the hotel at 600 Cz for 1 way and very prompt...good stuff !!!

There are so many local bars / restaurants / cafes around this hotel you dont need to travel far to sample new food and drink daily.

Free internet pc in the hallway if you want to surf the net, along with a vending drinks machine for water and beer too :)

I loved this holiday and will retun - back to this great hotel too :)

Excellent location in the middle of the old and new town. Beerhall downstairs, in the same building also Budvar bar, microbrewery, huge beer souvenir shop and museum. Also nearby is Tesco, metro station and many other classic beerhalls (U Vejvodu stays open til early hours, beer still "normally priced").

Friendly staff, good breakfast. I stayed in the room 15. It was on the street side, so a bit noisy and the curtains were not able to keep daylight out of the room. But the room had a bath, luxury by my standards...

We stayed at the Pension U Medvidku for 3 nights in September. We paid a little extra for a historical room - which was huge. Good, clean modern bathroom. Overall we paid $173 AUS per night including a hearty breakfast. Great value.

The pension is located in the Budvar brewery. I am not a beer drinker but the beer was fabulous. Good heart Czech food is also served here. So cheap!

If you are up for a more upmarket meal you cannot go past the Zahrada v opere (Legerova 75, Prague 1 ph 2423 9685) for the best meal. We went 2 nights in a row it was so great.

The pension is close to the train station and it is easy to access all the sites within walking or tram distance.

Would not hesitate to stay here again.

My husband and I stayed at Pension U Medvidku for 3 nights (Jan 26 to 29), we were delighted with it, beds were very comfortable, room was tidied each morning, and towels changed if u wanted - fantastic sized bath, went to the local Tesco & bought some bath oil, after a long day walking around in the cold, the bath was like heaven! For a hotel in the middle of everything, the price was fantastic EUR88/room and included a lovely continental breakfast. As a Tea-Aholic I brought my trusty travel kettle, teabags & long-life milk, as there are no coffee & tea making facilities in the rooms, but little price to pay for a great location. Staff were very friendly, also all Czech people we met. We would definitely use this hotel again and have recommended it to a number of people.

Reviewed 10 December 2005

Myself and my partner recently visited Prague for a four night stay. After reviewing most of the hotels in prague we were recomended the U Medvidku as it met all our requirements.

The U Medvidku is a historical pension in a great location. We stayed in room 14 and loved any minute of it. It was easy to book via email after looking at their website. Transfers were also booked through the pension and were reliable and reasonably priced (600k for up to 4 people)

The pension itself is a historical and furniture and decoration is in keeping with the theme. If you are looking for a hotel which will spoil you rotten, this pension is probably not for you. However if you are looking for a reasonably priced, friendly hotel you cannot go wrong with this one.

The room we stayed in was basic (however it worked out that we paid around £55 per night) Double wooden bed (which did squeak but added to the experiance) and wooden chairs which would get a little uncomfortable if you sat there for long periods of time! We just placed the pillows on the chair or sat on the bed!

Breakfast was plentiful and good quality. We even went down as late as 9.45am and there was still plenty of food.

All the staff and friendly and helpful and there are wide range of information leaflets in reception. The beer house and budvar bar that is attached to the hotel were also excellent and reasonably priced.

Location is great. At the top of the road is the tescos and department store and a really great inexpensive pizza place. (slice of pizza and half litre drink around 98k)

The pension is approx 5 mins from Wencelas Square and about 15 mins from Old Town. Also not far from Charles Bridge however, the best time to visit charles bridge is in the evening as it is rammed in the daytime.
