We have just come back from our holiday in Prague staying in the City Crown and we had a lovely time. The hotel is absolutely lovely and excellent value for money.
Rooms are clean and of a good size the bathrooms are gorgeous. The breakfast is great with a huge selection of freshly backed bread, meats, cheeses, pastries, cereal juice tea and coffee. Just what you need to start the day!
The staff in the hotel are all friendly and helpful with a wealth of knowledge about the area.
The location of the hotel is good. Walking distance from the Centre (about 10 mins) but with excellent transport links.
There are lots of restaurants and bars around the hotel all offering excellent value for money. And from our experience the food and drink is of a higher quality than in the centre.
I will definitely stay there again and I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is planning a trip to Prague!

Just come back from Prague and stayed in this hotel.
We had a room on the 3rd floor looking over the back(not much to see). The room was basic, but clean with under floor heating in the bathroom. I would advise you to take shampoo and soap with you as we were not provided with any (except a wall mounted liquid soap which was a waste of time!).
The breakfast was good, selection of meats, cheese, fruit juice, cornflakes, yogurts, bread rolls, eggs, fruits and some warm hot dogs.
In the breakfast room you can help yourself to tea and coffee at any time - handy when you come back after a long day out and need to warm up! There is also free internet which is handy if you are one of those people that can't leave ebay alone for one minute !
Sklep just down the hill near the tram stop is a good place to eat, we went because of an earlier review.
If you want a place to have a beer and goulash soup you really should track down Kolkovna, there are six of them in Prague, the soup is served in loaf of bread, and is excellent! (about £2 with a glass of beer). If they bring you over bread/crisps, send it back as you will be charged a lot for it - this applies to most eating places.
Public transport is cheap and good value, don't use taxis as they might rip you off.
The TV Tower just around the corner is worth popping up - great views of the city. About £4 each so make sure its a clear day!
We enjoyed our stay at the City Crown and would use it if we come back.

We stayed at the City Crown in the middle of January. What a delight of a hotel. The staff were extremely friendly, welcoming us on check in with coffee or tea and snacks in the breakfast room. We had travelled with four friends and all our rooms were comfortable and clean and above all superb value for money. This hotel may just be out of the city centre but it is walkable and there is a metro station only a 5-10 min walk away which takes you direct to all the major attractions, and also a tram stop which is even nearer. The only advice I would give on using the metro is to have plenty of change to buy your ticket. The automated machines will only accept coins, no notes, so we had to waste time having to beg shops to change notes for us as the staff in the office at the metro station wouldn't give us any change! The hotel is surrounded by some lovely restaurants, which I'm sure are half the cost of those in the centre itself, and numerous bars for those late night inexpensive beers if you're not bothered about heading back into the centre to eat.
Would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to visit Prague. Clean, comfortable and cheap!

Myself and my friend stayed at the City Crown in Prague for 3 nights during December. We turned up at the reception at about 8pm on a sunday evening and we were warmly greeted by the friendly gentleman on the check-in desk. He was extremely helpful to us and pointed several places of interest out to us on the map. He then went on to offer us the map (for a small fee!).

Our room was on the first floor and it was to our satisfaction. We stayed in a room with twin beds, and my initial reaction was one of concern for the size of the individual beds. They were quite narrow, and I quickly found as I retired to bed that they were also quite uncomfortable and noisy. Nevertheless the beds and living area were undeniably clean and there was also a small welcome basket that awaited us. This consisted of nuts, a twix bar and some crips. Our window overlooked a small court yard so our view could only be described as limited. The TV had two english speaking channels, (inc CNN) and there was a very large walk in wardrobe! Generally it was clean and quiet, although the hotel wasn't busy at the time.

The bathroom was of a good size. Both a shower and bath were provided. The shower was fantastic as it was very easy to adjust temperature to that desired. Again this room was very clean as were the towels provided. I was very impressed with the level of friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. They always greeted us with a warm welcoming smile, and they all spoke good english. The reception also offered 24hr access to the internet via a laptop computer which proved helpful.

The breakfast was limited. During our stay we could choose from bolied ham, salami, boiled eggs, cheese (one variety), a selection of breads (some of which weren't always fresh), corn flakes, coffee, tea, and fruits. Even though choice was restricted there was always enough to give you a hearty meal to start the day with. The neighbourhood in which the hotel was situated was quiet and there were a few bars and eateries in the locality. We always walked from the hotel to the city centre as it was only 15 minutes away but there were also tram and metro stops close by (the tram was closer than the metro). We always felt safe around the hotel.

Overall the hotel was very good value for money. I would recommend it to anyone travelling to Prague, particularly those on a budget.

Me and my boyfriend stayed at this hotel in November 2005 with another couple. The people we met were very friendly and helpful, especially the people in the reception of our hotel. If we were ever unsure of how to get to certain places they were always happy to help us out (don't be afraid to ask, it can be quite confusing if you try to go it alone).

I couldnt fault this hotel. For the price we paid I was a little concerned as to where we would be staying, however, I was pleasantly surprised. The rooms were very comfortable, very clean and included all the neccessities(although I would reccommend taking your own hairdryer as the dryers supplied do not seem to have much oomph).

The tram to take you into Wenceslas Square and the Old Square is a short walk away and involves a walk up a steep hill so I wouldnt recommend it for people with walking difficulties (unless you intend on getting cabs everywhere). The trams were very pleasant to use, although we did hear of a lady being pick-pocketed for her purse on a tram whilst we were there so like any big city be careful of your belongings.

We all highly recommend this hotel.

We've stayed in Prague from the 29th of November to the 3rd of December this year, and we simply loved it. Part of this was due to the hotel we stayed in, City Crown.Though it has no luxuries it has all that a person needs to enjoy its vacations. Besides, for a young couple wanting to get has much from the city as we did, a fine breakfast, warm drinks when we get back, a hot shower and a warm bedroom is more than enough! The employees are very nice and have great english skills (something you can't find that often in Prague). The location of the hotel is nice as well because it's not far from the old town or the centre. Actually, we walked there everyday, but there's also tram a metro stations in the nearby area. All in all, yes, we surely recomend it.

Nice hotel in good location, only a short tram ride from the train station and the main tourist areas. Rooms were excellent, with nice furnishings and clean and quiet. Great bathroom with corner spa bath! Staff were very helpful and friendly. Free internet access was handy. Great value for money for Prague.
