We had great time at City Crown hotel and a good week in Prague. Booked directly with hotel to get best deal.

A nice welcome from staff that always gave us good service with a smile.

Room was very nice and clean with everything you need, a plus for welcomebasket with nuts, chips, chocolate and a bottle of sekt! Our bathroom was lovely with a spa bath.

Breakfest was very good with a big choice even if we arrived late after 10. We had good luck with weather so we could enjoy the breakfest at hotels court yard.
Other things we appreciated were free internet and telephone calls.

We tried some restaurants around Old Square and Mala Strana like Kampa Park that we found expensive and food so-so. As recommended by other tripadvisor members there are some good restaurants nearby hotel, tried a greek(Olympus only 150 m. from hotel) restaurant with good food for moderate prices and nice green outdoor taverna.

We preferred walking from hotel to the centre and took the tram back home. Then walking we recommend to take a break in Riegerovy Sadu, a nice park, for great photos and a large beer garden. Another good photo place are Petrin Hill with the small Eiffel tower.

Would recommend City Crown to anyone going to Prague as a clean, cheap and comfy hotel.

We arrived at the City Crown with high expectations, having previously read other enthusiastic reviews on this site; but wondered at times whether we were actually in the same hotel! It is located in the once-elegant but now run-down district of Vinohrady, which has a rather 'edgy' feel to it - some of the nearby bars look as though a pit-bull is a required accessory for entry!

Our double room was adequate in size and clean, although facing onto an unattractive courtyard - clothes storage was in a small adjoining room, where there was a rail with many hangers but no shelves. Apart from the essentials, the bedroom was graced with a kitchen-sized (and totally empty) fridge and a small TV. The bathroom was reasonably-sized with full-length bath and shower, although the wash-basin was very small - more appropriate to a guest washroom under the stairs! Apart from liquid soap dispensers, very well-worn fraying towels, and coarse toilet paper seemingly left over from the Russian occupation, there were none of the usual extras like shampoo or tissues. The lack of a bathmat forced us to use one of the towels for this purpose, which we left in the bath in the expectation of a replacement - it was still lying there when we returned that evening! We also reported to reception on our first morning that the main lightbulb in the bedroom had apparently blown - it had still not been replaced when we left three days later.

Set against these gripes, the staff were very friendly and helpful - many seemed to be 'moonlighting' students (any Swedish management was conspicuous by its absence). Breakfast was excellent, with a choice of juice, cereals, several breads, cooked meat, cheese, yogurt, and fruit, all constantly replenished - a miracle of organisation given the small serving space available! The availability of tea or coffee and biscuits at any time in the breakfast area was a very welcome bonus after a day's sightseeing. The much-mentioned IKEA furniture in the lobby and breakfast bar is hardly Swedish minimalist, but rather cheap-looking and faux-rustic in style.

As described in other reviews, access is by Metro (about 10 mins. mostly level walk with luggage) or tram (5 minutes very steep uphill - not recommended for first arrival!). Be very careful on the trams - pickpockets are a real threat at busy times, although we had nothing stolen. We did not try any bars or restaurants in the immediate vicinity, preferring to eat in the city centre where there is an abundance of choice.

All in all, we would only recommend the City Crown if price is a primary concern - it may not be without significance that they had a 'vacancy' sign displayed in the tourist high season! Judging from overheard conversations, many guests reserve in conjunction with EasyJet flight bookings, although there seemed to be many Russian or Polish visitors as well.

I stayed here in January and at -15 I would recommend the Summer. The hotel is well furnished with an abundance of Ikea stuff. The rooms were fairly large and the bathroom has underfloor heating (put this on when you arrive and dont turn it off as it can get very cold) The staff were very pleasant and the breakfasts were of the continental meat/cheese/bread and jam ensemble, but very good. The area around the hotel is bleak but a tram journey or just walking is no real task to the town centre. Prague itself is jammed with architecture, so if you like this then you will overdose on it. Shopping is big here especially Wenceslas square. Overall its a good hotel!

Myself and my partner and our 2yr old son visited Prague for my partners 40th bday, we stayed for 3 nights at the City Crown, the hotel was clean and tidy and the rooms were modern. In general we enjoyed our stay, but found that the hotel is not equipped or very welcoming to younger visitors (namely our son), there were some comments made and some issues we found spoilt our stay there, and wouldnt return to that particular establishment.

The hotel we found mainley catered for couple's, and got the impression small children were an inconvienance, mainley due to the attitude we receieved from the staff, working at the hotel.

We have just come back from our holiday in Prague staying in the City Crown and we had a lovely time. The hotel is absolutely lovely and excellent value for money.
Rooms are clean and of a good size the bathrooms are gorgeous. The breakfast is great with a huge selection of freshly backed bread, meats, cheeses, pastries, cereal juice tea and coffee. Just what you need to start the day!
The staff in the hotel are all friendly and helpful with a wealth of knowledge about the area.
The location of the hotel is good. Walking distance from the Centre (about 10 mins) but with excellent transport links.
There are lots of restaurants and bars around the hotel all offering excellent value for money. And from our experience the food and drink is of a higher quality than in the centre.
I will definitely stay there again and I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is planning a trip to Prague!

Just come back from Prague and stayed in this hotel.
We had a room on the 3rd floor looking over the back(not much to see). The room was basic, but clean with under floor heating in the bathroom. I would advise you to take shampoo and soap with you as we were not provided with any (except a wall mounted liquid soap which was a waste of time!).
The breakfast was good, selection of meats, cheese, fruit juice, cornflakes, yogurts, bread rolls, eggs, fruits and some warm hot dogs.
In the breakfast room you can help yourself to tea and coffee at any time - handy when you come back after a long day out and need to warm up! There is also free internet which is handy if you are one of those people that can't leave ebay alone for one minute !
Sklep just down the hill near the tram stop is a good place to eat, we went because of an earlier review.
If you want a place to have a beer and goulash soup you really should track down Kolkovna, there are six of them in Prague, the soup is served in loaf of bread, and is excellent! (about £2 with a glass of beer). If they bring you over bread/crisps, send it back as you will be charged a lot for it - this applies to most eating places.
Public transport is cheap and good value, don't use taxis as they might rip you off.
The TV Tower just around the corner is worth popping up - great views of the city. About £4 each so make sure its a clear day!
We enjoyed our stay at the City Crown and would use it if we come back.

We stayed at the City Crown in the middle of January. What a delight of a hotel. The staff were extremely friendly, welcoming us on check in with coffee or tea and snacks in the breakfast room. We had travelled with four friends and all our rooms were comfortable and clean and above all superb value for money. This hotel may just be out of the city centre but it is walkable and there is a metro station only a 5-10 min walk away which takes you direct to all the major attractions, and also a tram stop which is even nearer. The only advice I would give on using the metro is to have plenty of change to buy your ticket. The automated machines will only accept coins, no notes, so we had to waste time having to beg shops to change notes for us as the staff in the office at the metro station wouldn't give us any change! The hotel is surrounded by some lovely restaurants, which I'm sure are half the cost of those in the centre itself, and numerous bars for those late night inexpensive beers if you're not bothered about heading back into the centre to eat.
Would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to visit Prague. Clean, comfortable and cheap!
