The Big Boot is located in a quiet section in Mala Strana, with easy access to the major attractions in Prague and to local transit. It is an easy walk to the castle (though it is uphill) and the Charles Bridge is very close.

The staff are incredibly helpful in providing restaurant reviews, booking concert tickets, explaining the transit system, etc.etc. Jan, Marta and all of the staff always had smiles for us and were eager to provide us with information about their beautiful city.

Breakfast is hearty and good. Our room was cleaned daily and was spotless. There is wifi in the room which is available at no charge. The shower was good, and a hair dryer was provided in the bathroom. The beds were comfortable and the room was nicely decorated.

My daughter and I felt truly welcomed and well cared for.

If I return to Prague I will stay here again!

This tall elegent and notable hotel is small, only 5-8 letting rooms, but the welcome is large.
This is a family run hotel sited opposite the German Embassy and close to the American and Italian embassys. The hotel is not apparent from the cobbled courtyard but looks like a private resident as there are no signs or hints of this being a commercial premise.
Breakfasts were relaxed and spread over two of the houses downstairs rooms. The meal consisted of the usual cereals, juices and beverages but also cold cheese, ham or toast and jams with rye bread and the option of a full bacon and egg cooked breakfast. All cooked breakfasts were prepared as ordered and were fresh and well presented.

My room was a double with (two beds) pushed together which had a seperate shower room and wc. The room was well furnished with older style furniture - (?antique) some of which was in need of slight attention but which added to its charm. There was a hairdryer and towels were changed daily. The beds were very comfortable and had the usual hotel grade thin but very warm duvet.

There was a fridge in the reception lobby with access to bottled drinks, water and wine with an honesty box system.

Whether a good or a bad thing, the room did not have either a TV or a radio. If you want to watch TV after a long day walking around the local galleries and shops then I think you will be disappointed. Equally if you want peace and a total get away from the rat race then its not a problem.

The hotel is close to all the Old Town has to offer and yet is tucked away in a very quiet area away from the hustle and crowding of the tourist trails.

Paying was in cash with euros so be prepared to carry them with you or get them from the hole in the well around the corner, as the hotel does not have card facilities.

Tip: only use the AAA taxis from a fair point. They are renowned as being honest and will not try to rip you off - the usual scam being by not having a meter running and overcharging.

Room Tip: The rooms to the front of the building overlook the German Embassy on a quiet dead end road leading...

As many other reviews reveal, this hotel is wonderful. It is a perfect location for exploring the city away from the tourist hubbub and the owners have got excellent customer service down to a tee. Jan picked us up from the airport and gave us a good introduction to the city, and when we arrived at the hotel Marta made some suggestions for where to go and where not to go, all marked on a map. Our room was very sunny and well decorated with beautiful furniture, at the front of the house on the first floor. One tiny thing - it would have been nice to have a double bed rather than two singles pushed together. But the beds were comfortable and the bedding clean and soft (we stayed for two nights and had clean bedding provided each night). The bathroom was spotless, with flannels, hand towels and bath towels and toiletries provided and a large corner bath. There was even a hairdryer! Breakfast was included in the price and consisted of yoghurt, cheese, ham, eggs (cooked to order), toast, cereal, juices, coffee, tea. It was served in a cosy dining room. Check out was noon. As our flight wasn't until late in the evening we left our luggage in the dining/sitting room, safe in the knowledge it would be secure, which meant we were free to explore the castle without the hindrance of lugging a heavy bag around.

Overall, if you're looking for a quiet but friendly hotel that offers excellent value for money don't hesitate to book here!

Room Tip: I can't compare with other rooms as I only saw ours, but maybe make a special request for a doub...

We absolutely loved our stay with Jan and Simone. After staying in the huge Marriott across town on our first night, the House at the Big Boot had a lot to live up to. However, from the moment we first stepped inside the hotel we were treated with such top quality hospitality that we regretted our time in the Marriott and wished we had booked here for another night instead!

Jan and Simone welcomed up with open arms and offered us a lovely cup of coffee whilst they briefed us on all the local amenities and places to see. This was a wonderful touch and added real value to our trip. Following this, every morning we were welcomed with Jan in the kitchen offering a wide range of breakfast options and lovely conversation.

Finally, the rooms are decorated with Jan's ancestor's furniture which provides a beautiful and comfortable living space.

Absolutely no faults with this hotel. I would recommend it to anyone who wishes to visit Prague and see it through the eyes of people who genuinely love the city.

We had a wonderful stay at Dum u velke boty. After being picked up at the airport by Tomas, we were warmly welcomed by Jitka who provided us with a map and a wonderful overview of the area, including restaurant recommendations and local attractions. Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable, with an en suite bathroom. This is a homey, cozy place, not a fancy or formal atmosphere. We enjoyed our morning breakfast, including the hospitality of the hotel staff and getting to know our fellow guests. The location is perfect--it's on a quiet street close to several embassies. It's an easy walk to all the great attractions, including the Castle, Charles Bridge, Old Town Square and lots of restaurants, cafes and theaters. Jacob, the son of the owner, was a delight. He was friendly and set the tone for the great service provided by everyone at the B&B. He assisted us with theater reservations to the opera and a classical music concert, and also helped us find a wonderful private tour guide who walked us around the city and took us to Terezin for a day trip (PragueWalker Tour Guides were great!). We chose the hotel after reading reviews on this site and in Rick Steves' guide book, and it didn't disappoint. We found it to be a great value with wonderful service and a very pleasant stay. We would definitely recommend this B&B to other travelers.

Room Tip: Not sure if they offer this, but our bed was two twins pushed together. If you want one larger queen...

Following 2 recommendations the House of the Big Boot did not disappoint. What an amazingly beautiful building with flowers cascading out of window boxes. It was so conveniently located within walking distance of the Castle, the Charles Bridge, Lesser Town Square ( with Church of St Nicholas) with its numerous eating places. The Metro was 20 min. walk. I was fortunate to be allocated a small apartment in the building adjacent. It was directly located onto the street front but was quiet, opposite the German Embassy and a short walk from the USA Embassy. The room was enormous in size, very high ceilings, with beautiful antique furniture and an extremely comfortable bed. It was well heated. The Dining area + kitchenette contained another sofa bed. The bathroom was very spacious, white and bright with a bath and separate tiolet. The hospitality was exceptional with Jan and family ready to please and assist. The breakfasts offerred in a cosy, well furnished dining room, were aweome with such choices. Enough food to not need lunch during the day. The restaurant recommendations were excellent exposing one to genuine Czech Republic cuisine. The facility was spotlessly clean and well maintained with infinite detail to everything. It is a safe and secure area to walk both day and night.

Room Tip: As there is very little traffic in this area any part of the building would be quiet and comfortable...

We booked on the reviews from Tripadvisor. On being collected from the airport by Jan who gave such an indepth overview of Prague and it's history. On arrving at the B&B we were given a warm welcome and shown to our room which was large and spacious and spotlessly clean, with the most amazingingly comfortable beds, which for us is a number one priority. And yes, the breakdfasts were wonderful. Jakub and Jan are wonderful hosts and full of information on where to visit and the best places to eat. We would highly recommend the House at the Big Boot.
