“Quaint, lovely and hospital stay”
Reviewed 18 June 2012

Booked this hotel based on the positive reviews. The owner Jan Rippl himself replied to most of the reservation and enquiries made on line.
It is a family owned hotel with helpful and friendly hospitality extended.
We were picked up on time at the airport by the owner's son. Had a sit down registration with coffee served and a map, information of places to visit and eating places too. We tried two of the restaurants recommended and both were served tasty and delicious meals. With one being more affordable and the other more costly but the food was very good.
The room on the second floor was quaint and clean and comfortable.
The breakfast was served by the family members themselves with help from their friends. Breakfast was delicious with a choice of coffee or tea, water or juice, cereals and breads. Ham and cheese were also served. As well as yoghurt and fruits and the mouth-watering scramble eggs with bacon. Or any way you like your eggs done.
The hotel is walking distance to the castle, Charles Bridge and Old Town, Very good location with nearby cafes and restaurants as well.
We stayed for 4 days and returned back one and a half week later and was given another lovely room on the top floor and they helped to carry our heavy luggages up. It was a memorable and lovely returned stay,
Would certainly recommend the House at the Big Boot to anyone anytime.

We stayed here for 4 nights and enjoyed every moment. The house is beautiful with a rich history and amazing antique furniture. It was quiet and a perfect retreat from the buzzing city. The hearty breakfasts sets you up for a days exploring. We stayed in room 26 and it felt like we had our own apartment. Everyone from the house was happy to help and made you feel like a visiting distant relative rather than just another paying guest. Within minutes of arriving you can see why this place is so highy rated by fellow trip advisor.

We stayed four nights in this family run boutique hotel located in the Mala Strana district of Prague. Although it is in a very quiet neighbourhood (embassies in old palaces instead of all night bars) it is ideally located within walking distance of the major sights almost equidistant from the Prague Castle (up hill) and the Charles Bridge (down hill). The rooms and public areas are elegantly furnished with antique furniture and decorated with sculptures and original paintings. Upon arrival you will get a relaxed personalized briefing about the establishment and what to do and see in Prague. Jan Rippl and his sons are eager to share their vast knowledge about the city and the country. They will also recommend good and reasonably priced restaurants in the neighbourhood. Upon request they can arrange airport/railway station pick up or drop off.

Room Tip: Our room looked out on the little square and the German Embassy. We had absolutely no bother from s...

Family run with pride and personal touches, well located, quiet square, nice breakfast, reasonable price. This is the right combination of many things for those who consider themselves travelers and not tourists. No grand lobby, no glitz, just very solid family-run establishment that has had many years to get it right.

Room Tip: We were in room 26, Castle view in the back of the property. Although on a quiet square, lovely cob...

I can't say enough about how wonderful our experience was with our 6 day stay at this bed and breakfast. Jan met us at the airport (an additional fee, but well worth it) and gave us an over-view of Prague, and some helpful "do's and don't's" on the way back. They gave us tea/coffee while giving us a map with places of interest and suggested restaurants (we tried many of them and they were all delicious!). The house is in a quiet section right across from the German Embassy (a former Lobkowicz palace) and down the street from the American Embassy, and only a 7 min walk to the castle (ask for the back way), and 10 min walk to the Charles bridge. It was wonderful to come back to a quiet neighborhood after the hustle and bustle of the Old Town. We had a two room suite with kitchenette, and seemingly brand new bathroom, but all the furniture is exquisite antiques- perfect for a couple and one child. The breakfasts were amazing-despite all the guide books warning you to expect only a continental roll and coffee for breakfast in Prague, we were given the choice of eggs and bacon, meat/cheese, yougurt, fresh bread, rolls, cereal, juice, coffee, tea, etc. etc! But, the best thing about this bed and breakfast is the family and friends that run it. Jan turned this 400-500 year old family home into a bed and breakfast 22 years ago, and is an amazing host! He and his son, Jakub, and Marta and Zuzanne always went out of their way to make our stay in Prague as wonderful as possible. Unlike some b&b's someone was on-duty from early morning until 11:00 pm. They helped with reservations, gave suggestions, helped with directions, etc. If we ever make it back to Prague, we will definitely stay here, and have already suggested it to friends who are going in Sept (they have reservations, Jan!).

This hotel is amazing and we recommend it very highly. My wife and I spent 4 nights here in May 2012.

1) Location - Perfect location. In a very quiet, beautiful, and clean neighborhood that is half-way between the Charles Bridge and the Castle. Having walked for miles and miles around Prague, we would definitely choose this location again.

2) People - Very friendly, very helpful. The were accommodating both before our stay and during. Helpful with tips, such as writing out bus / tram instructions, etc.

3) Facilities - The breakfast area is nice, food great, etc. The rooms are very nice. We booked the Castle View room and it was very nice. We could sleep with the window open and heard no traffic or anything.

Definitely our favorite hotel of our recent Europe trip.

Room Tip: The Castle View room (top floor) is large, has a nice balcony, and view of the castle.

First I want to thank Marta for going back and forth answering my questions prior to the stay. Tomas picked us up from the train, which helped out greatly. He also gave an entertaining drive Route for Slava Praha hockey no Praha Sparta ~haha, Arriving at the Inn we were met with coffee and an explanation of the town and tips on things to do and places to eat (I think it was with Jakesh (the older son). The tips were great as we had some awesome meals. We had a 2 bedroom suite which was beautiful. We faced the German Embassy. The room was clean, comfortable and quiet, even with a possible ghost~lol, ask the owner. The location is perfect. It is right under Prague Castle and on the same road as the US Embassy. It's a little quieter on this side of the Charles Bridge, but you are just a 10-15 minute walk to hit the city center areas of Old and New Town. Breakfast was fantastic with fruits, yogurt, meats, cheese and bread, plus eggs cooked to your order. Fried with bacon was awesome! There is not one bad thing I can say about our stay. I would recommend this place to anyone. It's a relaxing and beautiful stay worth the money! We opted for the ride to the airport which was worth it too. Prague is an amazing city and most of it is with easy walking distance when looking at the sites. Thank you everyone at the Boot for making our stay so great! The "czech bear" hopes to be back in the near future!

Room Tip: Our room faced the Germany Embassy which was a nice view.
