“mobbed with tourists;skip it; too crowded to see anything”
Reviewed 2 November 2013

I have given this review only two stars because there is no crowd control, they admit very large tour groups, and they do not limit the number of tourists admitted at one time. Pushing, rude, view-blocking tour groups. This means that you get to see the backs of the heads of those in the tour groups. Further, if you are a regular tourist, and manage to get close to the library, you will be restricted to standing in the doorway peering in and will not allowed to enter the libraries. What was infuriating was that there were folks INSIDE the library, who had somehow been granted special visitation privileges. I would gladly have spent extra money to get past the doorways, but there was no where to but that ticket. A WASTE OF MONEY given what we were able to see. Look at a picture in a book; skip going there.

“Only two rooms...but what wonderful rooms they are!”
Reviewed 1 November 2013

OK, the signs to the monastery from Petrin Hill are poor, and in this section of the monastery (careful there is an art exhibition as well which we paid to go round by mistake because it was that clear what was what) there are only two rooms of note to see which will only take you about 15 mins because you can't actually go into the rooms but...in my view it is worth the entrance fee.

The two library rooms and their ceilings are quite stunning.

If it's your thing take a look, if not the monastery does brew some great beer that you can spend your time trying.

“Mindblowing library”
Reviewed 1 November 2013

This is more than just a library. Ancient book collection stored in fresco decorated Harry Potter-like halls topped off with a fascinating exhibition of preserved animal specimens (bugs, butterflies, sharks, alligators,...) and old furniture. Unfortunately, unless you book your visit well in advance, you will not be allowed to walk through the library hall, you˙ll only see it from the entrance door, but it´s still well worth a visit. It only costs 80 CZK/person, 50 CZK/for students.

“Disappointing”
Reviewed 31 October 2013

As reported elswhere, the two main rooms of the library are magnificent but only viewable from behind a roped area. Only being the width of a doorway, this means that you are quickly conscious of other visitors gathering behind, so in real terms only able to snatch a couple of minutes viewing. A bit harsh to charge an addtional fee to take photos in these circumstances. Adjacent Chapel was locked up and charge for toilets led to a swift departure to the Petrin Tower (for a much better tourist experience).

“Complete waste of time and money”
Reviewed 13 October 2013

Not only was this difficult to find from the Observation Tower - the signage was appalling - but when you get there you pay for a ticket to see two rooms that you can't actually go into - just look in from the door where your view is quite restricted. You can't even take a photo without paying extra. The only other exhibits you can see are very strange curious, stuffed animals and one or two prayer books. If you do not have much time in Prague - I would give it a miss! They seriously need to look at the whole experience from the customer perspective. You can pay a very high price for a private tour - but you would need to be very interested in such things for it to be worthwhile.
The café outside the monastery selling the brewery beers and other drinks is OK though!
