“Decent - but help the staff do their job”
Reviewed 7 December 2013

The hotel is a little way out in Praha 5, but well connected to the centre by the MHD tram. We got a really good price through Feel Czech.
On our first day we needed to extend our stay by 3 days. We arranged this at the front desk. The receptionist seemed scared (maybe she was new, maybe I look scary) and told us she could make the booking, but it would have to be a new booking and that we would need to move to a new room because the double rooms were fully booked. Fine. In addition I asked for boiling water for tea and she said she needed to ask her boss how to do this and charge me - so I decided it was not worth paying for water I could get from a tap. I also asked for two extra pillows which we never received. Then on the morning that we should have checked out (5 days later), I inquired as to which would be our new room at reception with a different receptionist. She said no problem, stay in the same room it is empty. Great! Then at 14:30 we were asked to come to reception because we actually had to leave our room because there was no room in the hotel and we had to change hotel. After about 10 minutes of quietly managed fury, I asked her to please check again that there was no other booking with my name. Then she found it. And we managed to stay in the same room. If I hadn't made her check we would have had to find somewhere else.

Other than that, the rooms are large, clean and comfortable. Wifi is pretty good, and free car parking. A 20 minute walk to the big shopping mall in Andel down the street. Breakfast is pretty nice too.

Room Tip: Corner suites are large and have better views than the rest.

Stayed 4 nights October 2013, hotel is out of town so was nice and quiet, 2 x single beds with great pillows gave us a perfect nights sleep. There is a tram stop few minutes walk away with was very handy, room was quite basic and in the tradional eastern european styling, the room was clean and had all usual ammenities tv/fridge/phone etc bathroom again cleaned daily fresh towels if needed, shower could do with updating but it worked fine.

Breakfast there was a good selection and always refreshed by staff.

For the price paid it was very good value for money and would definately reccomend this hotel to friends / family.

We purchased a 3 day ticket at the airport this covered all buses, trams and metro , nobody ever checked our tickets on any of the services as they seem to work on a trust system you just validate it when boarding the 1st time and it lasts for 72 hours...you can also get 1 day tickets ...

Stayed in this hotel, after reading reviews on trip advisor, nice clean hotel, however it is away from the old town and main tourist areas of Prague, have to get a tram/bus/ or metro to any attraction, nightmare to find anywhere to purchase tickets for the tram, was not informed of this in the hotel, only by a local at a tram stop. Can purchase tram tickets from a machine at some tram stops or any newsagent. We only travelled on the tram which was cheap and frequent, you must get your ticket validated though, from the machine in the tram it's self. The hotel is on a slope and really not suitable if mobility is an issue, also only one restaurant nearby for an evening meal, this was about half a mile away up hill, especially not good when dark,as you have to walk in the road part of the way,not well sign posted either had to ask a local where it was. Hotel it's self is clean, well maintained and the rooms are a good size, our room had a minibar and tv,but no English channels available! Breakfast was ok,a fair choice of things to eat,and we never went hungry, kept us going until lunch.Overall a nice place to stay apart from the few gripes aforementioned.

just spent three nights on the floor of this hotel, after being squeezed into a double room with two others, the camp bed they provided was broken, on complaining I was told the hotel was full but offered another broken camp bed, the more I refused the less English the staff understood, we did have a bath in the room but no taps, just an underpowered shower with no screen or curtain, (you have to run about to get wet) The area is run down, but close to the tram line, the taxi's are a rip off, 150czk into town 800czk back, same distance, oh. and there is no smoking ban here, so either start or buy a gas mask, would never go back to Prague and would not recommend it to anyone,

Room Tip: go to a different city.

We got the nice, spacious apartment, with a large plasma and a beautiful view of the city. The staff was very friendly and helpful, they also gave us a map, which was really useful. The hotel is situated in a beautiful, quiet neighbourhood.

Unfortunately, we got to Prague in September and it was kind of chilly outside and the heating wasn't turned on. Other than that, great hotel, I'll come back here.

Ive been here for 5 days, very pleasant staff and management, hotel is very close to the city center, about 5mins tops.

B&B breakfast was very tasty and has english tea. Cheap cheap mini bar , compared to other local hotels. No restaurant at night, but take away service excellent.

Room very nice and cleaned daily, fresh sheets and power shower (room 107) very nice.

Thank you for great stay and sorting the return taxi out

Kind regards

The hotel is situated in a quiet neighbourhood, and fits perfectly to the surrounding buildings. We got a very clean and spacious room (207) with a nice view to the winter garden (which wasn't opened at the time, unfortunately!), but with no wi-fi signal. Nonetheless, we enjoyed being awakened by birds and wind, instead of traffic and sirens ;) Our only complaints (besides the wi-fi signal, that varies from room to room) would be that we had to wait for hot water (sometimes for more then 10 minutes!) to shower properly and that the fridge was very warm and you can't rely on cooling anything down.
Hotel Popelka is five minutes walk from the tram station and it'll take you no more then 15 minutes to get to the city centre. If you get up early enough, food that you find at the buffet breakfast will be enough to last you untill late afternoon (fried, boiled and scrambled eggs; bacon; at least 5 different cereals; 2-3 different salami and cheese; sponge cakes; fresh or canned fruit; milk, yoghurt, coffee, tea...). Also - don't use the hotel taxi, regardless of their friendly recommendation - we had to wait for more then 30 minutes for the car to come, it turns out that it's not taxi at all (the guy obviously has a deal with the hotel and drives people around in a hired car, speaks almost no English) and the price is fixed - you'll pay 350 Korunas no matter the address, distance, etc.
The staff was very friendly and helpful and we'll definitely come again!
