“Very nice and quiet hotel in the centre of the city”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 August 2014 via mobile

This 5* hotel is located in the centre of Prague. The main square is only 2 minutes (walking) away. Yet the room was very quiet, spacious and clean. Breakfast was served at a nice patio. However, I didn't think breakfast met the 5* quality one might expect from such a hotel.

It is easy to get to Iron Gate by way of public transport. From Prague Vaclav Havel Airport, you first have to take Bus No. 119 to go to Dejvicka, a metro line A station (bus ticket can be purchased at the Arrival Hall and it costs 32 kc per person; it is essential to stamp the ticket to avoid heavy fine, if caught). Then get on board the metro in the Depo Hostivar direction and get off at Staromestska, which is the third stop after Dejvicka. The closest metro exit to Iron Gate is the one behind the ticket office. When you reach the ground level, you will find yourself on Kaprova street and will see a KFC (as at August 2014). You will see the front entrance of Iron Gate after going through the "Art Passage" (alongside are souvenir shops and cafes, and the side entrance to NYU in Prague) opposite to the landmark Astronomical Clock (the huge crowd will tell you the way!).

I have stayed at Iron Gate on two non-consecutive days. I have been given rooms on both 1/F and 3/F. I prefer the room on higher floor because it is both quieter and more convenient (directly accessible by lift with no step).

The room is spacious enough, clean and well-maintained. Guests are provided with basic amenities, bath robes and slippers. Wifi is provided for free. There is no pain in getting connected at all. Having breakfast and coffee in the courtyard under the Sun is a pleasure before a day out.

The receptionists (stern they maybe) are professional and helpful. I reckon they recognize their guests and their room numbers.

As captioned, Iron Gate is centrally located in Stare Mesto. I recommend it for that reason alone. It takes you a few minutes' walk to reach the Astonomical Clock and the Old Town Square. Karlova Street, which leads to Karlovy Most (Charles Bridge), is around the corner. Other attractions like the Wenceslas Square, National Museum, National Theatre, State Opera and Clementinum etc. are all within walking distance. It is also close to the tram stop of No. 22, which goes up to Prazsky Hrad (Prague Castle).

Room Tip: Rooms on higher floor facing the courtyard are quieter and are directly accessible by lift with no s...

My wife &I enjoyed 5 nights in this great hotel recently .Friendly staff & spacious rooms combined with a No 1 location.Breakfast was pretty good with a reasonable selection .The only fault was the low quality of the juices provided on the buffet .Really not up to standard .Besides that you can't go wrong with this hotel .

The hotel is very nice, and very well located. We got an excellent deal on a "Royal Suite," and the room was huge and very comfortable. The reception staff were friendly and efficient. We had one dinner at the hotel, and it was OK (not more), and the included breakfast buffet was just adequate. A bit more effort in that area and this would be a 5 star hotel!

Lovely, quiet hotel in the heart of Prague. From the front door, turn left, go two doors down and enter the "Art Passage." At the other end of the passage lies the Astronomical Clock and the Old Town Square. Couldn't get more convenient than that! Breakfast in the courtyard was very pleasant with the usual buffet items (pros: service, setting, and lots of fruit. cons: scrambled eggs and bacon under-cooked, and only straight (but tasty) american coffee - no fancy cappuccinos). With all the great dining in Prague, we did not try dinner at the hotel restaurant, but it did smell good. Our room was beautiful, with a fresco on the ceiling and lots of room. To clarify, rooms are available with a double bed and a sofa bed - good for kids. No extra fee for the sofa bed. Wifi in our room was free and fast. Other reviewers have complained that it did not reach their rooms, so if wifi is important to you, specify that in your reservation; it is definitely available. Also avail is offsite parking. The surcharge for this is a little steep, but parking is RARE in old Prague, so no surprise. Valet will park your car and retrieve it for you with advance notice. There is a hotel car service available for a surcharge. Service is AMAZING. Full concierge service, which we happily utilized. Tours can be booked by the staff and billed to your room. Very easy! Overall, LOVED the Iron Gate. Would recommend to all.

Room Tip: Specify if you need good wifi or elevator access.

Considering this hotel is bang smack in the middle of Prague you'd never know it until you step out the door. The room we were in was fabulous and so quiet, overlooking the courtyard. You are about a minute from the old town square. The staff are really friendly and helpful so it was a joy to stay here.

My husband and I stayed here and loved it. The location, the service, the suite, absolutely everything. It is very special and we were made to feel it too. It is situated in a very quaint old area and equally unusual building. If you like style and quality, this is it on a small scale. Do go! I am going back!!

Room Tip: We had a large suite we antique furniture
