Review of Hotel Tyl
1.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 23 May 2023
For a four-star hotel, this is a disaster. The Internet is extremely weak, and the receptionist was rude and confrontational. This was for the first time in my life that a receptionist with very bad English raised his voice while talking to a client. Simply unbelievable.

Hotel booked through Booking.com. A few weeks before arrival, the reservation was successful preatorized by card. Three days before the date of arrival, the hotel marks the card as invalid and cancels the reservation. The hotel did not make any operation on the card (confirmed by my bank). Of course, the reservation was too cheap for the hotel, made a few months earlier for New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. After cancellation, no contact with the reception - they do not answer the phone, do not respond to e-mails and messages on Booking. They leave customers high and dry.

I strongly condemn such fraudulent practices. I was a guest of the hotel a few months earlier in the lower season. At that time the hotel was empty and there were no problems with the reservation. This proves very badly about the treatment of customers in a situation of high occupancy. I have been to Prague many times and this is the first time I encounter such behavior. I will not use the hotel's services again.

Upon arrival at the hotel we had a really friendly greeting from the receptionist. Our room wasn't ready yet and we were allowed to leave our bags while we went down into the main square, St. Peter's Square. When we returned, the same smiley face greeted us again and we were given our key and an explanation of where our room is and where we would find the breakfast room. The room was lovely and spacious. Wardrobe a little dated maybe, from which there was a musty smell, but, this was ok as we decided to live out of our case anyway, as we do 9 times out of 10, and there was a couple of coat hooks in the room which we used to hang the clothes that we needed to hang. The room was a little too hot for us which was ok as there was 2 sets of large windows which when opened let in a welcome blast of cool fresh air. We had a lovely view of a busy junction which was alive with trams, cars and people and I could have stood there watching for hours. The bathroom was nice, dim lighting but this was compensated by a bright light which is located above the mirror. The shower was spacious but could have done with a little more power, but didn't matter as it got the job done. Breakfast is served everyday downstairs and they have a lovely selection of granola, pastries salads and an option of scrambled egg and sausage. The breakfast staff were very friendly too and were happy to see us every morning. We had a lot of contact with a young gentleman, whom I think could be the manager, and he too, like the others, was very friendly and he was also very knowledgeable and helped us out a lot. St. Peter's square is just about a 15-20 minute walk away. There is also a tram stop right around the corner and from the opposite side of the road you can jump onto a 22 or 6 which will take you into the town. There's also an underground station right next to the tram stop too. Across the road is a little shop where you can purchase your travel tickets from. We will most definitely be returning to Hotel Tyl. It is clean, very nicely decorated and is in a good state of repair. We also highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a place to stay whilst visiting Prague.

A lovely friendly clean hotel almost in the centre of Prague. The staff could not be more helpful. Breakfast was great. No other meals available but the hotel has so many restaurants etc all in the vicinity. Great transport links on the doorstep.
A great place to stay.

The hotel is very well located, a large living room, style of antique furniture, but very tasteful. Receptionist always very polite. I went next to Christmas, they had a Christmas fair, one of them in front of the hotel.

We had the misfortune to stay at this hotel for four nights. We booked rooms here because of the photos and reviews.
On arrival there were no coat hangers in the wardrobe. When asked at reception no coat hangers were received. Two further requests I finally got half a dozen! I certainly wouldn’t expect to walk into a four star hotel to find no coat hangers!
Our room and bathroom was not cleaned for four days despite complaining, writing the request in Czech and trying to speak to the manager! (See photo)
I requested milk and coffee three times to make drinks in the room but this never arrived. The kettle had a two foot long Cable on it and had to remain on the floor as the table was too high! (See photo)
The rooms and particularly the breakfast was nothing like the photos on the website so don’t believe what you see! When items at breakfast ran out the staff who were drinking coffee and on their phones, had to be asked to replenish them.
There was obviously no management or supervision of reception, cleaning and kitchen staff.
We sent the hotel two emails and photos but they have failed to respond!

Room tip: I would not recommend any travellers to book a room in this hotel!
