Owner description: A former seat of Czech rulers, the Old Royal Palace is a mix of many architectural styles, particularly Gothic and Renaissance.  The palace houses the Story of Prague exhibition, which uses castle models, films and artifacts to tell the history of Prague Castle.

“Worth a visit”
Reviewed 13 June 2014

We got a 250 Kc ticket for the Castle and this was part of the locations included in the ticket. Very interesting and plenty to see. My advice is to go here first and the St Vitus Cathedral last. We did pay a small extra fee to be allowed to take pictures and it is worth it.

“Worth a visit”
Reviewed 14 February 2014

We visited using our 350 Kc Prague Castle ticket and this was another interesting part of this wonderful part of Prague. You need a special permit to take photographs and there are some good shots to take, initially the large vaulted Vladislav Hall, the upstairs to the Diet which was a medieval parliament, but the most impressive was the ceiling of the New Land Rolls decorated with the family crests of the clerks who worked there. Finally there is a wonderful wide staircase where knights on horseback made there way to the Vladislav Hall-great history.

“Really just a one-room attraction”
Reviewed 9 January 2014

The banquet room is a fascinating feat of architecture and worth a glance if you bought the package ticket for multiple sites within the castle, but don't bother to pay for it on its own. Not much else to see otherwise.

“Only to shelter for the rain.”
Reviewed 20 August 2013 via mobile

We took a shelter for rain in this old palace. We took a walk around the building, but there is almost nothing to see. Some bad paintings, awful bad crown replicas and some random old stones. Only the main hall is acceptable. Don't go here, it's a waist of time.

“Open Twice a Year Only”
Reviewed 18 August 2013 via mobile

Once the residence of kings, the palace now houses the offices of the President of the Republic and his administration staff. This is where diplomats and foreign statesmen are received by the President when they are visiting Prague.

The palace is used for state and cultural events and is only open to the public twice a year; on Liberation from Fascism Day in May and on Foundation of the Czech Republic Day in October. Although the public aren’t admitted to the interior of the palace, the exterior is nevertheless included in visits to Prague Castle.
