From the moment you check in and are greeted with a flute of champagne until the moment you leave and walk down those lovely steps to a waiting car, you will feel like you've stepped back in time and should be wearing a crown. The Alchymist is in a class by itself . . .stunningly beautiful, classy, tasteful, welcoming, and so relaxing . . .you will not even want to leave the hotel to experience the beauty and magnificence of Prague!

The room . . .we stayed in a junior suite which was large enough for a small cocktail party . . .beautiful 4 poster bed, luscious linens, and a waiting basket of fruit. The furnishings were exquisite, including the magnificent bohemian crystal chandelier at the end of the bed. The bathroom was marble with 2 vanities, jacuzzi tub, and glassed in shower and soft and luxurious towels. Did I mention that we also had a rooftop patio attached to our room, with stone bistro table which overlooked a cobblestone street? Turn down service included dim lights, delicious chocolates, and an invitation for romance.

The amenities of the Alchymist cannot be surpassed . . .wonderful sitting areas with period furniture, exquisite drapes, oriental rugs, free wi-fi access, and complimentary Czeck wine and cheese every day at 5:00 . . .in addition, there's a beautiful gold gilt and gorgeous bar in between sitting rooms, and oftentimes it felt as if you were in your own mansion with private service at your beck and call.

Ah . . .the pastry/chocolate shop that is on the premises . . .just the smells emanating from that wonderful patisserie made me feel like I would gain 5 pounds! However, what sets the Alchymist apart from other boutique hotels lies beneath; after walking down a winding marble staircase, you feel like you've arrived in Thailand and have entered the most exclusive and private spa.

Imagine yourself walking over a curved wooden bridge with Koi swimming in the pond below . . .the dark and aromatic wood and smells of the Far East reaching your senses, and a massage unlike any you've ever had . . .and then fantasize that you are Cleopatra relaxing as you recline on a semi-private bed while being surrounded by the most gorgeous and fluffy pillows. . .your eyes gazing at what could be your own private pool, twinkling and lit by the most gorgeous crystal chandilier; you almost pinch yourself to make sure that you have not just died and gone to heaven . . .for surely, both your mind and body feel otherworldly....and you never want to go back.

Staying at the Alchymist was like a wonderful, sensual, inviting, relaxing, and fulfilling dream that you never wanted to end . . .a once in a lifetime experience.

From the moment we arrived, and stepped over the "1531" marker showing the age of portions of the Alchymist building, we were enraptured by this hotel. Someone put quite a bit of love into selecting interesting and eclectic, and yet ultimately elegant, decor for the public spaces. We enjoyed the daily wine and cheese tasting each afternoon, and the breakfast buffet was first class with a wide selection of cold and hot foods. Our room was adorable, and the knowledgeable staff was very helpful--from providing aspirin for headaches, to calling reputable taxis, to making recommendations for places to see. We were close enough to the castle to walk up to it, and enjoyed being on the quieter side of the Charles bridge. All in all, I couldn't imagine returning to Prague and staying anywhere else.

If you are traveling to Prague in the Czech Republic for business or pleasure and are looking for the ultimate in luxury, attention to detail and relaxation, there is only one place to stay and that is the Alchymist Grand Hotel and Spa. The Alchymist is housed in a 16the century palace on a quiet and secure cobblestoned street. The hotel management and staff have worked to make every room and every public space beautiful and top rate. The cellar spa and swimming pool is extraordinary. There are yoga rooms with beautiful music, candles. There is a meditation room and massage rooms all appointed to ensure that you feel relaxed and refreshed. The food is wonderful and the hotel bar is well appointed. This was the finest hotel I have every experienced.

Not only is this hotel an architectural and design gem, the service, amenities, spa, restaurant and, most especially the staff make it a spectacular place. We enjoyed the tasting menu with wines in the restaurant and the breakfast buffet was very nice. Our first visit to Prague was made so much better with help from the staff with dinner reservations and suggestions, getting train and theater tickets for us, etc. The location is excellent and very convenient to so many things we wanted to do, see, etc. We hope to be back for another stay soon.

From the moment we arrived and received a welcoming glass of sparkling wine as we checked in, to the time of departure, we could not fail to be impressed by the understated attention of the highly skilled staff who complemented the decor and ambience of this palace of hotels.
(Their chocolatier also provided a very tempting selection).
