“Awful service, rude waitors”
Reviewed 14 May 2014

This place looks like a great brasserie to relax while/after visiting Prague and to enjoy the sun set at one of the street tables. They must be very used to (and fed up with?) tourists, because the service is not at all friendly.

We wanted some help with the wine selection but the waiter didnt have the patience to assist us, later he left me alone at the counter after hearing that I wanted to pay by card. He said his boss would have to deal with that but he didnt bother to notify him about it.

Shame, because with a bit of caring this could be a good address, but as it is, I wouldnt recommend it.

“A great reinvention of a Czech pub”
Reviewed 13 May 2014 via mobile

OK so here is the bottom line. Food is very good. Service is attentive. Atmosphere is happy. Beer is very good. This is not a romantic dinner unless the weather is warm and you get a table out on the sidewalk. Tables are a bit close and the room is noisy. But, who cares. The beef tartar was excellent. I suggest asking for rye bread instead of the garlic bread. The Czech ham starter is excellent. Both the pork and chicken schnitzel is very good. Either dish can be easily split by two people if you have a starter. The cheese cake dessert is very good. Try the half and half beer. I would rate the restaurant higher except the tables are close together and the entire main floor dinning room is smoking. Go and have a fun evening.

“A great pub in Stare Mesto”
Reviewed 8 May 2014

I've eaten here several times, usually lunch while sightseeing or visiting with friends. It's fairly upscale compared with many Prague pubs and the food is consistently good. The sausages are a personal favorite. But one of the big reasons it is always on my itinerary are the beers. You can get either Urquell or Kozel on tap, and I am a big fan of the dark Kozel. The downstairs area is nonsmoking. Wifi is available (but can be hit or miss in terms of whether it actually works).

“standard restaurant”
Reviewed 8 May 2014

Good basic food and brewed bears. Straightforward service. Upstairs is the smoking department and downstairs the non-smoking. Meals are served quickly here. A lot cheaper than higher class restaurants; dinner for 2 persons was about 1000 crowns.

“Good place”
Reviewed 7 May 2014 via mobile

We had our first dinner in Prague in this restaurant.
Beer is great, wonderful Urquel, scented and at the right temperature.
The food is above average but not excellent compared with other local restaurant we tried. In particular bread dumplings you can surely taste they are industrial and not home-made. Believe me the difference is intense!

The Place is a good compromise if you are in central Prague as a tourist and want something really local to eat and good beer.

I didn't fine rude staff as reported in many comments, but definitely I can't say they were oriented to complete customer satisfaction..
