“Akcent Hotel is an Excellent Value”
Reviewed 17 December 2010

I shared a double room with a friend during a recent trip to Prague. My half of the room was less than $25 per night. The room was of a decent size and the bathroom was relatively spacious. Don't let its location away from the tourist center deter you from staying here. It's just a quick subway or streetcar ride away from the sights. The Andel subway station in and of itself is interesting to see. Check out the cosmonaut tiles. The set up of the hotel (in an office building) is a little different at first, but it works. The continental breakfast was more than adequate. Overall, I was very pleased with the Akcent Hotel.

The hotel was excellent value for a 3 star hotel. The hotel was very clean with large bedrooms and more than adequate food for breakfast. The hotel staff we dealt with spoke excellent English and were very helpful with directions, etc. Cyril's Pub just down the road (turn left outside the hotel, a couple of traffic crossings then it is on the right-hand side of the road) serves absolutely wonderful food and not expensive. Smoking is allowed almost in all the eating places we found, which is a bit much if, like us, you don't smoke, but Cyril's have a non-smoking room which was great for us. Also there is a wonderful Chinese place where we ate a couple of times, before you get to Cyril's, but on the left-hand side of the road, huge portions and very cheap, but they don't speak much English, but we managed. Carry-on walking past Cyril's and the Chinese and you will come to a Shopping Centre, loads of shops on 3 floors and a big Tescoe's.
It was a bit cold whilst we were there and I would like to go back maybe in the Summer and I would certasinly use the same hotel. The metro was great for getting around on and we found we didn't really need to use any other transport. We used Prague Airport Transfers from the airport and back which I booked on-line before we went. I must say they gave an excellent service.

We stayed here for 4 nights based on trip advisor reviews. Transfers from the airport were quite good as the metro in Andel is literally 20 steps from the front door of the hotel. To get to this hotel from the airport you take the #100 bus (make sure you take the bus to the right as this picks up the metro at Zlicin), its about 15 mins bus journey and then the metro from Zlicin to Andel is 9 stops. Tickets available at the airport (you can get a 75 minute ticket which covers all transportation for 26 czk), this is validated as soon as you get on the bus and is valid for the next 75 minutes which will get you to the hotel within that time.

We were able to check in an hour before the normal check in time which was good and although some previous posts had said that the reception staff didn't speak English we found all the staff we came across did. The rooms itself were spacious, it was two single beds pushed together but that wasn't a problem. As per previous posts the pillows were flat but we asked for extra, the beds were comfy. We had a balcony too which was good to have some views of the surrounding area.

We had breakfast as part of our package and there was a good mixture of continental breakfast and hot items ie. scrambled eggs, bacon and local sausages. Overall very enjoyable.

Location wise it is about a 20 minute walk to Charles Bridge which we enjoyed as we were able to take in the local area and beautiful buildings.

Free WIFI was available in the restaurant/reception area.

I would stay here again if we come back to Prague.

Good value hotel. Ikea style furniture, but everything is fine for budget travelers. The place was large, rooms were big, bathrooms fine, seemed very clean. Location was great, very near the metro - to get to old town and the airport. The metro is literally outside of the hotel. Casino/bar/restaurant inside the hotel... cant persoanlly recommend, didnt stay inside much. Requires a cab or a bit of a walk to get to old town.

TAXIs: DO NOT GET A CAB from the street, either have the hotel call you one or negotiate a price beforehand. They have a special meter for tourists. Its the 'street' price they say. Do not get the taxi outside of the train station, repeat, do not. walk a bit, away from the line outside and negotiate a rate with the cab driver. Or know the approx rate by asking the hotel in an email prior to leaving for your trip. Also, there are Gypsies in the train station, be careful. SKIP the river cruise on the Danube! Cant state this enough!

Hotel faces vast streetcars' depot and subway station is few steps away, in fcat, it feels like the entrance there is at the ground-floor or the hotel itself. This place is queer: it's supposed to be noisy, but you sleep like a baby there; it's not far from historic center, but feels like a secluded, almost abandonded. In addition, it has really friendly staff, it's clean and comfortable, rooms are spacy, although no surprises. The last, but not the least -- it's very price-worthy.

Service was excellent - found the reception staff very helpful when asking for information about transport etc. The room was huge! Only gripe was that we had a sunlight in the room so as soon as the sun rose we had a glare of light shining on us - but it didn't matter to us that much. Wasn't worth changing the room over. Would recommend B&B board. This hotel is slap bang next to the Metro - ideal! The other end of the subway for this station leads to a shopping centre (open til 10pm every night!) and loads of shops! We loved Prague and when we go again, we will definitely stay at this hotel!

This hotel is pretty cheap. That being said, it is kind of gross. The maids didn't really clean the rooms other than making the beds and half of the time restocking the towels. The people at the front desk were pretty unhelpful. Their English was poor, which is fine, however other reviewers stated that they spoke English well, which was not the case. The employees at the front desk mislead us several times regarding directions, etc. There was no way to call the front desk from the room and no way to order a wake-up call. When we asked the front desk in person for a wake-up call, they completely forgot to do it and we received no wake-up call. The hotel also reeks of smoke and the walls are paper thin so you hear everything going on in other rooms and outside. The smoke smell is probably because the first floor of the building is a shady casino, and the rest of the floors are apartments. The hotel only consists of the top floor of a whole building. While I would probably never recommend this hotel to anyone, the one saving grace was that it had free breakfast. This "hotel" was basically like an average hostel. Next time, I would get a hostel that is closer to the city center.

Also, people reviewed this hotel as being in a great location. While it is right outside of the metro stop, it is a 20 minute tram ride or a 50 minute walk to the main tourist spots/city center.

Overall, halfway decent, but I would not repeat my stay.
