“Excellent value-for-money hotel with a superb location as bonus!”
Reviewed 21 March 2009

My girlfriend and I were looking for few days of break to get away from the Credit Crunch news that daily filled our TV screen. We've been to Prague before so we knew what to look for. There are plenty of places where the "first-time" tourist go, but end up paying more than they have to or should. I have found this hotel through a friend and it was exceptional and excatly the thing you might look for if you intend to the city and also stay in the heart of Prague's wonderful history and architecture. The hotel is well run and the staff is really friendly and we both felt like valued customers. The rooms are clean, daily serviced; however, we never felt disturbed even when we decided to have lie-in till the noon!

We visited Prague in March 2009 and stayed at The Hotel Hastal very close to Old Town square, when we arrived we were a little early and our room was not quite ready so we took the oppurtunity to visit the local pub for some local beer and food, we checked in just after 2pm, the staff were very friendly and gave us a detailed talk about tours that were available to us. Our room was a standard double room which was newly decorated, clean and tidy and a stocked mini bar. The shower facilities were excellent with 24hr hot running water. The hotel is situated very close to all the main attractions, Old Town square was literally a 5 minute walk as well as Charles Bridge and the astronomical clock, all worth a visit. Breakfast was served in the restaurant from 7am - 10am, we tended to go down around 9.30am and there seemed to be a good selection of food left, this varied from hot dog sausages, fresh bread and pastries, croissants, ham, salami, cheese, cereals, juice, tea and coffee which was all fresh and very nice.
However on our last day, we went for breakfast at 7am and there was obviously a large selection of everything, depends on how much you like your sleep as to what time you go down. I would say this destination ie prague is a two day 3 night max vacation as once you have seen the main attractions, there is not a lot else to do.
Would recommend doing a tour, we did tour 2 from the book our receptionist gave us, it was a bus tour to Prague Castle visiting Old Town, New Town, Lesser town and Jewish town on the way, the bus was fitted with modern headphone sets with multiple language for your preference and gave a detailed level of history about the town.
During our stay, we visited several restaurants, one being, B E D - a restaurant with low mood lighting and laid out as beds, the food was nice but did take a little while to come even though it appeared fresh and tasted good, cocktails were very nice to!!
Would suggest a good guide book if you want to know the history of the town and preferebly one with a map which helps locate the necessary. My only quarm with the hotel which was not really a problem was that our room was next door to the lift which didnt start moving normally until around 08.30 but was a little noisy. Ideally ask not to be next to the lift!!! Otherwise good hotel!!!

My wife and I stayed at the Hastal Hotel Prague just before Christmas.

The Hotel location is fantastic only a few minutes walk from the old town square , it was easy and inexpensive to get to and from the Airport by public transport. It's situated in a quiet area but has lot's of nice bars and cafes nearby.

On arrival at the hotel staff where helpful and welcoming, The room although small was very clean and comfortable, with a large bathroom and shower area. The Hotel bar was very friendly and served good food. Breakfast however, was a little disappointing with limited choice.

Prague is a very beautiful city and at this time of year I would highly recommend it. If I get the opportunity to return to Prague I would have no hesitation staying again at the Hastal Hotel

It was one of the best hotels we're ever stayed in and certainly the best in Prague! ( And we've stayed in many!) The location is unbeatable, you're in the centre of a city, but squere is very quiet. Everithing is so close, we didn't have to use public transportation at all, we walked everywhere. Our room was incredible, well equiped and best view in all Prague. Restaurant was amazing and food was better than I thought. Nothing was too much trouble for stuff, they were very kind, professional and understanding. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for an amazing holiday. Lovely hotel at a greatprice and brilliant location.

Really disappointed I'm afraid.

My wife and I came to this hotel for a romantic getaway, and we couldn't wait to err.. getaway.

Our room (on the 6th floor.. the lift only goes up to the 5th) was an extremely basic affair, basically in the hotel's attic with two rudimentary single beds and thin mattresses. A small antiquated TV set sat in the corner on top of the mini bar.

You'll get a real feel for the place when you check out the decor on the staircase. It appears that some kind of renovation may have been started - but left half-done. Certainly we didn't see any workmen while we were there, and there was no explanation or "forgive us while we're refubishing" sign to explain the exposed concrete and very basic handrails.

But what really killed for us was that the price charged for the room was completely astronomical for the quality of the accommodation. I'm glad other people had good experiences at this hotel, and my wife and I are normally not grumblers, but this really wasn't good.. :-(

We began to laugh about it after a while, imagining that perhaps it was a theme hotel deliberately rudimentary in the charm and comforts it offered. A theme based on the communist past perhaps?

We were greeted by friendly staff and the room was just fine. The location is great. It's a short walk into Old Town Square. The breakfast was good too. Honestly, it wasn't that memorable in either a good or bad way. There wasn't anything that made it outstanding, but there was nothing wrong with it either.

This hotel really couldn't be in a better location for sight-seeing in Prague. It is a short walk to the major sights, yet in a quiet square so you don't get bothered by noise at night. Its also handy for public transport if you want to use the metro.
The hotel staff were friendly and helpful although the check-in and check-out process seemed to be rather a slow process, perhaps because we were such a large group!
Our room was on the first floor overlooking the square and the church, we'd asked for a double room but got a twin room. It was spacious, very clean and comfortable. The bathroom looked newly refurbished and was very nice. Other members of our party did say that their rooms were very hot at the top of the hotel and without much view, but still comfortable enough.
Breakfast was good - a nice continental buffet selection of cereal, breads, jams, meat, cheese, coffee, various teas and juices.
We didn't eat in the restaurant, but did have some drinks in the bar which were reasonably cheap (you do get a discount if you're staying at the hotel). The bar seemed to close early, when we tried to get in before 10.45pm it was closed.
Overall, this hotel is excellent value for money and nicer than many other 3 star hotels - a perfect place to stay for visiting the sights of Prague.
