“Good location, great service and value”
Reviewed 17 October 2010

This is definitely an older hotel, family operated. They provided wonderful service including personal taxi transfers for a fare rate. Room was spacious and clean, hard beds but we slept well. Expect older decor. It had a great breakfast included. Hotel restaurant had good food at great prices.

Hotel Hastal Prague (Old Town) is in the perfect location. You really can't be much closer to the places you want to see in Prague; the Jewish Museum sites, the Old Town Square with the astronomical clock, the Charles Bridge are all within an easy 5 to 10-minute walk. The neighborhood is safe and quiet. We had a room facing the street and it was very quiet and had plenty of room. When we visited in August the temps were high; the air conditioning works, but the hotel staff comes to the room to turn it on. The street is so quiet, you can sleep with the windows open if you like. The buffet breakfast which is included is quite ample with cereals, breads and jams, eggs and bacon or sausage, cheeses and cold cuts, tea, coffee, juices. Free WiFi has the strongest signal in the hotel lobby or restaurant on the ground level. Metro station a couple blocks away, but everything is so close on foot. There is a small grocery store just down the street. The hotel staff is very pleasant and helpful, just ask if you need anything. We found them extremely responsive. They will arrange transportation, reservations, etc. We noticed that a number of the guests, both from Europe and the US were repeat guests. And don't worry about any language barrier--this staff speaks many languages. I'm happy we made such a great choice!

The hotel is in a great location, central to all the sites, and safe. I was always greeted with a "dobry den" (good morning) and a smile by the ladies and gent at reception. Even the waitress in the adjoining restaurant/bar was very nice. The morning breakfast has cereal, breads and jams (the apricot was delicious!), cuts of bacon and salami, deli sliced cheeses, and scrambled eggs and sausages. Keep in mind that if you want any of the scrambled eggs, you better get downstairs before 8:30 a.m. because once they are gone, they don't refill! And of course, coffee, tea, apple and orange juice. I enjoyed the breakfast and it was a good start to the day for me, but if you are a late riser, don't count on getting eggs and the other warm items might get a bit cold. The rooms are basic - so basic that the only amenity that they provide are two small bars of soap. There are no mini shampoos, conditioners, or hand cream like in other hotels. There is a "corner market" just down the street though. The bed is firm and the t.v. is a small 13" with about 6 channels. I had a room next to the elevator and was not bothered by the noise. Based on my stay (and other reviews) don't count on the wi fi - it appears to be constantly getting fixed. If you are looking for a friendly, basic, clean, quiet and safe place that is near all the sites and the metro - this is the place! FYI - the hotel website offered a double room for less than the price of a single.

Prague was the first city we visited on our holiday in Europe, we are planning to go to Austria and Hungary, too. We were pleasantly surprised because eventhough this part of Europe shaked off communism just 20 years ago, the lifestyle is the same as in any western country. But what is different is the people, they are very open. We met very friendly Czech receptionists in the Hastal Hotel as well. The hotel is located in a historical building but the rooms are big and comfortable. And they serve very good local food in the hotel restaurant.

We went to Prague on a romantic holiday to celebrate our wedding anniversary.
It was our first trip to this wonderful city, they say that Prague is the mother of cities and I can say that it´s really true. We were very lucky in the choice of hotel, too.
Because Hotel Hastal is fantastic.
First, the location is just perfect, the hotel is in the very center of the old town so all the sights most people want to visit are within easy walking distance.
And the hotel itself is situated in a nice historical building, something one can´t find back home at America.
The room was spotlessly clean and very nicely furbished. The service was great and all equipment worked perfectly (air-conditioning, shower, internet connection..)
All the staff was very friendly and helpful. In other words, really good value for the money.

We ended a 2-week Europe vacation with a visit to Prague. We stayed three nights at the Hotel Hastal in Old Town. The hotel is in a relatively quiet neighborhood and is only a 5-minute walk to the Old Town Square (Staromestsky). The rates were reasonable, especially after visiting several western European countries prior to this stop. The included breakfast was good. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. Air conditioning was available, but required a call to the front desk. We elected not to use the AC and were perfectly comfortable because of the large windows that opened and allowed for plenty of fresh air in the evening that quickly cooled the room. The beds were firm (okay with me, too firm for my wife). The towels were changed about every other day. The staff was very friendly, especially if you made the effort to practice your Czech language skills with them. The receptionist willingly called an airport shuttle company for us to make reservations (in Czech) for our trip to the airport on the last morning. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.
