After our visit to the castle we walked all the way here, an easy stroll down the hill. A lady working at the metro, helped us validate our tickets and she even validate herself two tickets for our team in order go faster and catch the train just before leaving. Stunning view all the way up and down. On our way back we managed to get just at the first carriage just behind the driver and the view was breath taking!!!

Worth the stroll (or 22 bus) over the river to the funicular. Buy a one day or three day Prague travel pass (metro/trams) and it includes this too! Once at the top a short toddle down to a cafe and we spent a relaxing hour drinking coffee and enjoying the view over the City.

Really enjoyed are trip up petrin hill. So glad there's a tram service. Beautiful views over the city. We decided to walk down since it was a lovely day. Lots of photo opertunities. Was a cheap, relaxing afternoons activity. Would definitely go back.

We wanted to head up the hill to take a look at the Petrin Tower for excellent views over Prague. I decided the easier way than walking was to take the Funicular Railway. This was also a good experience for our teenage daughter, being a relatively rare form of transport.
We were unsure where to get tickets and realised the chap behind the glass counter was selling them. It looked more like a newsagent. We asked for just one way as we were going to walk around and back down through the gardens. I think he thought we were mad! (And he may well be right as after we walked back down, our legs were like jelly! A little out of shape I think!).
We luckily noticed other people validating tickets so we didn't have a problem as did the poor people reviewing below. That must've been a nightmare. There were actually 2 people at the gate anyway, and they showed us which way to pop the tickets in the machine.
We walked up and the carriage was already pretty full, so we just had to pile in, but luckily we were in the top section just behind the driver so we could see up the direction of travel. It might've been a little claustrophobic otherwise. It didn't take too long to get up, but well worth the money to save your legs.

Ride the train to get some great views of the city.

A great way to scale Petrin Hill to see the park with various rose and flower gardens, old Olympic village and Petrin Tower.

The train departs every 15mins – 00 15 30 45 00 past the hour.

TOP TIP No1 – Obtain tickets before arriving at the base station to save time.

TOP TIP No2 – Arrive at the base station BEFORE 1000am to avoid any queues.

If you arrive any time after 1pm then you will have to queue for around 1hr as the funicular has a limited passenger capacity. Just 2 carriages of 4 compartments.

You can stop off half way up and visit a couple of cafes and a pub, or continue upwards to the top station.

The PIT metro/tram/bus tickets are valid. So its better to perhaps get a day or 3 day pass and this will include the funicular. Or simply get a 90min ticket for 32 CZK. Remember to validate it before boarding.
