“Famous statue”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 January 2014

This statue is quite regular one except few details. It’s the saint Wenceslas there and it’s a masterpiece of famous sculptor named Myslbek. The square around is not the nicest one, but is usually crowded by people as this is very popular meeting point for citizens here. There is the National Museum just behind the statue’s back, so coming here you can visit it as well.
The statue itself is more symbolic for local people and it act like a unification entity. People use to gather there, when something is happening, so many demonstrations and performances started here.

“A monument”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 November 2013

A very nice one. A lot of history pertaining to the velvet revolution. Go see it; you are going to go to Wenceslas Square anyway.

“Interesting statue, lots of symbolism”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 October 2013

Wenceslas Monument is a statue with lots of symbolism honoring the dedicated statesman, distinguished politician and pious prince who was assassinated in the early 900s - as pointed out by another reviewer, the monument itself was also a symbol of freedom during protests against totality during the 1970s. These days, it's often chosen as the site for political protests or demonstrations of various slants and although other posters have mentioned warnings about crime, pickpockets and weirdos, I saw none of that when we were there [unless you count the political demonstrators as weirdos]

“Symbol of freedom”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 September 2013 via mobile

It has always been the symbol of freedom during protests against totality. Police in 70' s put a thick metal fence around the basement of the statue to avoid people sitting near the statue. It was removed after 1989. Locals say, that now, to be further useful here, St. Wenceslas will go alive soon and chase out with his spear all pimps from this square long way back home. Be careful in Wenceslas. square of pickpockets, especially if you are tipsy. They act in gangs. Put your backpack /ladies bag off your shoulders under your controll.

“Nice monument, terrible place”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 August 2013

Wanceslas Monument is nice, close by the National Museum. But the Wenceslas Square is a dirty place, I really don't like to go there even during daytime (homeless, weirdos, thieves). Be careful there.
