Ibis Praha Old Town
Ranked #155 of 648 Hotels in Prague
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 22 October 2012

IBIS Old Town is located two minutes away from the Namesti Republiky subway station. On the metro station, go to Palladium exit. Palladium is a large shopping center with a grocery store that works till 22.00 (weekdays at least) on the ground floor, IBIS is next to it (Na Porici street).

Room was small but enough for two and equipped with bathroom. We paid about €60 per night for the whiole room using an online deal from hotels.com. Breakfast was included.

Room: cleaned daily, small somewhat, so we felt lack of air at times. Airconditioning was not going on as heating season started. It however did not causes us much trouble.

Breakfast: basic usual breakfast with sausages, baecon, scrambled eggs, juice, coffee etc. (before 10.00 - after that only paistries and fruits). Not a huge choice but just fine.

Service: we had a broken hair dryer and when we complained about it, they were about to send someone right away. Hotel promises to sort out such things in 15 minutes according to their advertisement found in the room. Other help we had from hotel was printing (they tried to deliver it to room, too!) and asking bus schedules, all done fast and right away.

The room does not have kettle or iron. Iron is located somewhere 1st floor, and hot water can be taken in mugs from bar in the lobbly at no cost.

Internet connection was there and showed a good speed on test, but it was not perfect and showed slightly intermittent connection. It seems to have issues with parallel connections, as google maps were loading very unstable. Even though, we were fine doing all common internet tasks such as skyping or looking things up.

Location is nearly perfect. Within 2-3km you can get to most of attractions by foot.

Eating out: there are Chinese and kebab places around (e.g. Revolucni street has one chinese place), and several grocery stores. Check cafepalanda.cz‎ nearby for inexpencive good meal in local style (Zlatnická 1122/11). You can find Vodafone and 02 offices in Palladium. I have bought internet sim card for 150 czk, they have 75 czk/week internet connection for up to 500 M/month. So for €6 I have equipped my phone with mobile internet for duration of our stay.

Getting from Airport: we used bus 119 from Airport to Dejvicka metro station and then metro to Namesti Republiky. Airport Express bus takes you to this metro station (stop by request) but it's more expensive.

One last thing: Prague is a top city for tourist traps and various sort of rip-offs. In airport, I was about to withdraw local money, and ATM (Bankomat) was trying to convince me to "convert money from EURO to CZK" or alternatively "withdraw without conversion". It however showed that conversion will be done using a rip-off rate. ATM messages were designed to convince me in unsafety of direct withdraval, as "in such case conversion rate is not guaranteed". Nevertheless, "take the risk" and withdraw money w/o conversion! It will give you honest rate, as I later checked in my bank. In case you choose withdraval with conversion, you will lose 10% of money on it.

This is quite a large budget hotel and it was perfect for our trip. As with all IBIS rooms, they are functional but clean and well presented. The breakfast is taken in a large room on the ground floor and offered a hot and cold buffet with a wide choice. The hotel is situated in the old town about 10 mins easy walk from the main railway station just down from a tram line stop. Next door is a shopping centre and all of the city centre sights are within walking distance.

Wifi is free in the lobby and restaurant. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful. We had to leave our bags for storage on our last day as we were getting a late train and that was arranged without any problem although it did seem a bit easy to get your bag out - could do with a bit more security. However, overall, a good hotel for a city break.

We stayed in Ibis Mala Strana last year because this one was booked. This time we were lucky and could stayed here! Clean, good matress and pillows. Garage well located, right under the hotel a bit pricey though. We booked two rooms together since we were visiting with family but we got the rooms each one in a different end of a corridor:( same floor though. Very close to downtown and as always satisfied with Ibis. Internet service complimentary which is always good.

Stayed here for a night due to a booking mix-up. The room and bathroom were clean, bed comfy and good WIFI connection.

Location wise, it's a short walk to Old Town Square and adjacent to Palladium Shopping center. A bit pricey though for an Ibis hotel. Overall good hotel.

Spotless room and bathroom. Great central location in old town. Good breakfast included. There are safes near the reception, which are handy.
Two main cons.: the room and the bathroom are a little small and hence the feeling of a "crowded" room, and the air condition was available only for heat (is set to cool during the summer), so when the weather is a little warm during transient periods, you have to manage with the window, but is usually enough.
Overall, had a good experience and would recommend it, since the cleanliness and the location were the most important to us.

Ibis old town is an excelllent hotel for touring prauge. It's located at the midst of the old town, within a short walking distance to most of the main interest points. The rooms are very comfortable, clean, and quiet. Staff at the front desk is helpfull. Breakfast is pretty basic but is served between 6:30 to 12:00, which is a great plus. All in all it was a very good stay.
