Just got back from 3 nights at the Hotel Angelo in the Andels district of Prague. The room was spotlessly clean and had lovely en-suite. Tea and coffee making facilties, mini bar (at extra cost), flat screen TV and DVD player. We were on floor 3 (non smoking) and our room was a double but had two individual duvets! Internet connections in room or in foyer. The lifts were operated via your door card so that unwanted visitors were unable to gain access to the rooms. Breakfast was very good consisting of everything from full cooked to cold meats, cakes, fruit, yoghurts etc etc. Staff were friendly and helpful. Used public transport - taxi from airport to hotel was 600 crowns. Bought passes for underground which one can use on trams and buses also - very good value. Would recommend the trams. Unfortunately I lost my wallet to a pickpocket on the underground on the last day so beware. Prague is a wonderful city although I was less than impressed by Wensleslas Square. Round the corner from the hotel is a large shopping mall with loads of shops including Tesco. Apart from food and beer we found shopping to be expensive. The castle area is well worth a visit. I would certainly stay at this hotel again.

Angelo is one more example for an Eastern European hotel of 4 stars to lack proper employees to maintain the standard in action. Stayed in this hotel for 4 nights due to a conference. Perhaps due to outsourced room cleaning service the ladies come at surprising times of the day - one day the room was not touched until 16:30, at another day knocking on the door occured at 8:15. The bathroom had heated floor but the staff persistently switched it off - upon my return from the conference the tile floor was ice cold again. No pay-TV in the room but you may rent DVDs downstairs. Catering has the same problem as any other business hotel - for 4 days the breakfast menu did not change for a gram and you have to settle on bakon and eggs forever. Not to mention a fire alarm going off at 9:30 and evacuation of the whole hotel without any assistance of staff (what fire drill training can be requested from outsourced cleaning ladies...). If you plan to frequently enter the hotel you will be tired of using the key card at the evevator at all times.

This would be fine if you had no intention of being in the hotel besides to sleep and shower. We stayed here for 2 nights recently and would never stay here again. The hotel itslef was nice, the decor was impressive and the standard was fine for a 3 star. The staff were verty friendly and helpful and had excellent English. However there were so many small things that made the overall experience a bad one. Any room service that came to the room was cold, the breakfast was inedible, the drinks I was served were in chipped glasses, the general cleanliness wasnt the best at second look, they did not change the linens despite being asked. And at check out we were told that we had to pay for our breakfast (which had been included in the deal) beacause we ate it in the room. So we had to pay room service to bring it to our room and we had to pay for the breakfast again just because we didnt eat in the restaurant(which was not indicated anywhere.).

We stayed at the Angelo for a weekend in late September 2007. I have no complaints or grumbles about the hotel whatsoever – the room was new, clean and of a standard size; the hotel itself was nicely decorated; and the location was good. This said, there was nothing about the hotel that really hooked you. The impressive decoration would work if the hotel were busier, but when we stayed it just felt as if it were slightly lacking in atmosphere.

We were initially worried about staying so far from the old town, but in fact it was well worth the distance. The area (Smichov) was formerly an industrial district but this appears to have been razed to make way for shiny (yet relatively low) new buildings on one side of the main street, with traditional architecture on the other. Overall this creates a surprisingly nice effect, and the residents seem a young, fairly affluent and attractive bunch. There are some nice bars around, and I’d recommend the walk down to the river and then up to the old town to discover more (along with some interesting sights!). Alternatively, the metro goes straight from Smichov Andel station to Mustek on Wenceslas Square in about 3 minutes.

Generally, we were pleased with the hotel. On a hot September weekend the walk to the Old Town along the river was lovely, but it might not be so great during midwinter, so perhaps a hotel within or closer to the Old Town would be a better option if that’s what you’re looking for (I’d recommend the K+K Central in this case). Would we stay at the Angelo again? – possibly, although I’ll be looking for somewhere with a bit more atmosphere I think. If you want a decent hotel in a cool new area (without the usual tourist hordes) or are a business traveller then certainly do try it but if you’re looking for a romantic or sightseeing Prague visit them keep on looking.

We stayed here with my wife in August 2007. The hotel is well located close to the metro, just a hop and a skip away from old town (can even walk there). It is a very new establishment, and as such is very clean and comfortable, with flat screen tv's in room and all other bells and whistles. The staff is very friendly and universally speaks excellent English. There is good secure parking if you're driving. There is a great restaurant and the included breakfast is one of the best I've ever had.

My only complaint, and the reason I'm not giving this 5 stars, is that the internet available in the room as well as the wi-fi in the lobby is VERY expensive at 6 Euros for half an hour. A hotel of this calibre should always provide free internet in rooms in this day and age, espacially as most people I know now travel with their notebook computer and rely on hotels to provide a connection.

We have been roaming around Europe for a couple of months and stayed at this hotel for 4 nights as a base to explore Prague. This hotel stood out for its good faciliites and service. Rooms are modern, equipment works and staff actually try to help you.
There is a striking red and yellow decor that definitely makes the hotel stand out from the stock-standard design seen in many other chains.
Rooms were spacious, with tea and coffee facilities (a rarity in Europe!). Our king-sized bed was very comfortable.
Our room was facing the road, but there was very little noise. We initially also had problems with light coming into our room, but soon discovered that the 4-piece curtains just needed to be arranged in the right configuration to get total darkness!!!
There are 2 computers in the lobby with free internet. We did not have a problem getting access to these.
Breakfast buffet was excellent, with good variety and service. They could however improve on foods available at the bar for lunch/dinner/snacks - it was limited to pizza and a daily special pasta which was always 'cheese spaghetti' when we were there.
The hotel is very close to Andel station (2 blocks away - around 5 minutes walk). The metro is very swift and and cheap. For 20 crowns, you could buy a ticket that gave you 75 minutes of travel on bus, tram and metro. If you wanted to walk, Prague castle is around 30 minutes walk away.
The rack rate for this hotel was high, but we managed to get a very good internet rate which was more than 50% of the advertised rate. Prague prices for accommodation are high, so expect to pay a premium for good quality accommodation. We thought that this hotel was good value for money and would recommend it to other travellers.
