“Over-rated property”
Reviewed 5 May 2012 via mobile

We stayed here four nights. The location is definitely quiet except for the bells - they seem to start chiming in the early morning hours and on the hour some times they just seem to go on and on! The location is a bit distant from the centre of town and the return is mostly uphill, quite tiring at the end of a long, walk-filled day!

The room we had was spacious with a separate and very large living room. However, the furniture was very tired and the television screen was very, very small for the room size and therefore difficult to see. The hardwood flooring was quite worn. The bathroom had no shower curtain and we were guaranteed a flood on the floor if we showered - most frustrating for the individual who had to clean it up (usually me). The staff was very pleasant but somewhat inexperienced (it seemed) as they hadn't heard of places we asked about and referred to in various travel books. However! They were always quite willing to look the places up and then mark the directions on a map.

Dear Client,

Thank you for your comments. We would like to apologize for the missing bathtub curtains. Hotel was fully booked during your stay and the bathtub curtains have not been replaced in time. Further to your comments – location of the hotel is under Prague Castle - Lesser Town. Unfortunately, most of the castles were built on top of the hills, so when booking hotel which is in castle area, some hills and walking could be expected. Moreover, any electronic or printed map show the location of our hotel on Petřin Hill, where our noble house is situated and proudly occupy it for more than six hundred years. The furniture in the room is antique, and it was carefully chosen to complement the unique and authentic style of Appia Residences. We understand that this style might not suit every single individual, and therefore it is fortunate that the downtown part of Prague is offering many modern hotels, and it is up to visitors what part of the Prague they are choosing to stay in.

Best regards,

Hotel Management

This hotel was in a lovely area, just underneath the Castle and next to all the embassies - so the area was very safe to walk around!!

Room was lovely - very spacious, comfy bed and big bathroom. Only down fall was that our room 301 was located where all the people traffic passed! Could constantly hear footsteps walking down the corridoor and up and down the stairs. The room was also very close to the lift so could hear this constantly going off, along with people dragging/wheeling suitcases....

Worst of all was that we were directly underneath the Breakfast restaurant - so could hear for footsteps from the waitresses, and every morning would hear her pounding up the stairs to start her shift, Also at around 3am everymorning - we would hear the receptionist talking (Think it might have been shift change over). So basically where our room was located mean't that we could get no sleep!!

We did twice ask to change rooms, but there were no other rooms available! On closer inspection (We looked at the fire escape maps) - we worked out that the majority of the rooms were suites, which explained why they could not change our rooms .

On the whole friendly staff and lovely location. Receptionists very helpful in booking taxi's and giving information.
I'll definately stay in same area again, but not this hotel. If your considering staying here opt for a suite instead.

Dear client,

Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear that you were not satisfied with your stay at Appia. Hotel is located in very tranquil location, in its surroundings practically does not exist traffic noise and the building is well sound proofed. Regrettably, during the time of your stay the hotel was fully occupied and the movement of guest in hotel could disturb you, for what we would like to apologize. Unfortunately, in the time of tourist peak this happens in all hotels all over the world. We, at Appia Residences, strictly follow the valid house rules and according to our inspection none of them were violated.

Best regards,

Hotel Management

Very nice hotel in a famous district of Prague, old-fashioned building with spacious rooms but it has been renovated very recently. Very nice bathroom, comfy bed, and high quality breakfast. It is on a very quiet street; no noise from cars or bars during the night. Internet works well. We really enjoyed our stay.

We had a spacious room that overlooked the garden/courtyard outside. The room was lovely, although the bed was 2 singles pushed together instead of a double. The hotel itself is very pretty, the neighbourhood is great - 5 mins from the castle but in a quiet and picturesque are next to the embassies. On that note don't be alarmed if your taxi is stopped and searched by police - it seems to be normal protocol due to the embassies nearby.
Breakfast was nice continental. No bar/restaurant but with so many nearby it was hardly missed.

we stayed in Hotel Appia from March 23 until March 28. We loved it very much. The room was spacious and very nice. Especially the bed was excellent. The whole hotel was very nicely restored and managed. The staff was friendly and helpful. The neighbourhood was quiet and with the security of the US Embassy nearby we felt very safe :). The hotel is conveniently located in the city centre, walking distance from the main hot spots or from the excellent public transport.
The hotel offers very good quality for a reasonable price.

We will surely recommend the hotel to our friends and family and keep the hotel as our nr. 1 accomodation for a next visit.

We recently visited Prague for the first time and spent some considerable time researching where to stay. We decided on the appia residences in lesser town, it is in a very quiet area with a traditionall pub 50 yards away, it is a 10 min walk from the castle and 20 mins via Charles bridge to the main square. The hotel was excellent in every way, it was spotlessly clean the rooms were amazing, the staff were very helpful and the breakfast was excellent with nothing too much trouble. I hope to return to Prague one day and will DEFINATELY stay there again. Ps. The pub was well worth a visit, it was recommended by a member of the staff from te appia, the man who ran it was called Thomas and his beer was excellent at 1.36 a pint his food was excellent and would DEFINATELY recommend to eat here.

Room Tip: It was a luxury room with a terrace room 104

The Prague castle is just 5 min. walk and the charles bridge approx. 10 min. nice walking thru Lesser Quarter. Staff was very helpful and professional. The breakfast Restaurant is also nice and the breakfast was excellent. We recommend this hotel and I hope we will stay here again.
