The location for this hostel couldn't get much better because it is near the old town square. It is down a small side street and can be hard to find. My friends and I did get lost for a moment trying to find it but once we stopped for to look at a map we figured it out.

The door is locked and you have to be buzzed in by a person at the front desk. They gave us wrist bands that we had to show to regain access to the building. It was cheap overall for a one night stay. There is no elevator. The room's are small with just enough room for some beds and night stands. There are toilets and separate showers in the hallway on the floor. Overall the place wasn't quite clean or dirty. We didn't have noisy neighbors and the hostel seemed quiet (it was a Sunday night). It was loud in the morning when people were checking out so if you are near someone who is being loud you are going to hear it.

Overall it is a hostel and you get what you pay for. If you want things like A/C, a private bathroom, and assurance you'll get a peaceful nights sleep this place isn't for you. If you need somewhere to rest your weary head on a budget it should do the trick. I was with friends and felt it was fine but I wouldn't stay here with my wife.

The hostel is an awesome location - mere minutes from the Old Square in Prague. I've stayed in several hostels, and this one is pretty typical - thin walls, noisy young people. But the staff was friendly and helpful when we had questions. My husband and I stayed in a private double room, which was large and airy. No air conditioning but large windows. They have a kitchen and free internet access on their computers. We had trouble connecting to the wifi, but that didn't matter since there were computers. If you visit Hostel Tyn understanding you're staying at a hostel and not a hotel, you will enjoy yourself. Around the corner is a great, "North American" restaurant, Bohemia Bagel, which is owned by an American and has lots of American food - pancakes, burgers, big salads, and (gasp!) fountain drinks with free refills! A good place if you're feeling homesick.

The one thing this place has going for it is location with it being a 5 min. Walk to the old town square. Other than that, the hostel and its staff are average. Don't expect to be given any information or assistance, you must ask for it. This is not what I have come to expect from hostels. Staff answered questions and provided info straightaway on request, but even then it was matter of fact without much personality. I even witnessed a few interactions with other guests where the staff was a wee bit argumentative/confrontational. Not sure I saw a smile or welcome glance the entire time.

Also, the facilities are OK, expect no frills. Bathrooms and showers are basic, but there were not outlets near the sink for things like a hairdryer, shaver, etc. TP also ran out a couple times. Wifi was terrible, so use their computers.

Overall, I believe there are better hostels in Prague for a comparable price with a bit longer walk and wouldn't stay here again because it is not what I like in a hostel.

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights during the summer. Getting there is a bit difficult since its down a little street, but its close to the main square. The staff is not friendly at all and seem to get annoyed if you ask them anything. Like most hostels, there was no lift so be prepared to climb stairs. The room was small which wasn't that big of a deal but there was no air flow in the summer except for one window that overlooked the courtyard. It was too hot to close the window so all night long we got the smoke from the smokers in the courtyard below along with all their chatter. Then at 7am, the construction workers started beating and cutting steel and other metal so you heard very loud clangs and high pitched cutting sounds all morning. The walls are also paper thin and they rattle so you get to hear your neighbors every step and their entire conversation. It's also seen as a party hostel so there were only 18 year olds running around, drinking and chatting at all hours of the night. The hostel has very slow Internet that is only available in the basement with all the party kids. The bathrooms are public and very dirty. For one entire day the WC next to me didnt have any toilet paper; it took them until the next day to replace it when I complained in the morning. The shower constantly flooded so there was a puddle of water on the floor at all times. To make things worse there were no hooks in the shower room so you had to hang your stuff on the door or window handle and pray it didn't fall in the puddle on the floor as you showered. The shower room had a tiny sink area with a little shelf and a gob of soap that wasnt cleaned up the entire time I was there. How do I know this? Because I tested it by putting a hair in the soap which reminded there from day one to when I checked out. checkout is at 10am and they expect cash payment up front before they'll give you your room key.

Room Tip: If you want to party ,this is the place for you, if you want to sleep at night look else where.

Great place to stay, close to all of the action. I found the staff helpful and courteous. They do give out free maps, despite what some reviews said. The toilet and showers are down the hall but there are several and I never had to wait. The room is spartan, but I have no complaints. I would definitely stay here again.

The location is ideal - just steps from the main square in Old Town, yet on a very quiet courtyard. We had a twin room - it was bright and pleasant. There is a good kitchen downstairs, so you can make your own breakfast. The staff were very nice. The security is good, with locked doors on each floor and 24 hour reception. The Indian restaurant in the courtyard is superb, don't miss it! Only one negative comment: not enough bathrooms. If the hostel is full, you may have to queue for the shower, and the toilet had no handwashing basin.
