Hotel Residence Agnes
Ranked #1 of 647 Hotels in Prague
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 11 November 2013

We have just returned from 3 nights in Prague and after reading countless reviews on here we decided to see if they were correct and chose Residence Agnes for our stay.

Booking online was simple and communications to the hotel were answered very quickly and professionally, reassuring us that we were in for a pleasant time. The booking included a free transfer from Prague airport, very useful for a first visit to a city.

From arriving at the hotel to sadly leaving its doors to return to the airport we experienced levels of service that would shame 5 star hotels around the world. Frank and his entire team have only one purpose and that is to ensure that your every need is met.

The Agnes itself is tucked away in a side street and is very quiet. It is a few minutes walk from Old Town Square and around 15 minutes walk to Wenceslas Square, so an ideal location to explore this fascinating city.

Rooms are stunning, we booked a deluxe room for our stay and we were on the 4th floor in what would have been the buildings attic. The lift goes to the 3rd floor and there is a flight of stairs to the top floor. It is worth asking Frank or the staff about the history of the building, as with everything in Prague it is a history.

Reception, seating areas and dinning area are all immaculate and well presented. It is clear that all of the staff have a pride in the hotel as no detail is overlooked, from plants during the day to candles and nibbles on an evening.

Breakfast is a buffet style service, supported by staff. There is everything you could ever want to eat, from the continental cold meats, cheese and breads to bacon, eggs and sausages. Then add in crepes, pastries and fresh fruits etc, all impeccably laid out.

All of the staff team are friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable about the area, sites and restaurants. The reception area is manned 24 hours per day, whenever you return you are greeted and offered refreshments: tea, coffee, wines etc.

There are lots of little touches to the Agnes that take it well beyond being 5 star. My wife was presented with a card and bottle of champagne at breakfast for her birthday. Now you may think that is nice, but you have to appreciate that we didn't tell them it was a special event. We presume this had been picked up from our registration cards, now that really is impressive attention to detail.

Frank told us that for the hotel is his hobby and something he enjoys, all we can say is that he is a master of his art and has created something here that has to be experienced to be believed.

We are returning to Prague in March for an anniversary and there is only one choice of where to stay.

To work a proper review I would need a lot of "excellents" and "superbs" and much more space than I have here. So, in short: excellent location, 5 minutes walk to Old Town Square (Prague's true heart); room with plenty of space, clean and with everything you may need; superb breakfast with fruits, breads, cheeses and more. But the real thing there is the staff. Like I mentioned in the title they will treat you like a king. Everybody all the time with a smile on their faces, offering you help, giving you tips about the city, OMG it's relly hard to say how nice they are. Frank the manager can even give you a ride in his car if he thinks that will help you. They really deserve maximum grade in all aspects measured here. I only regret they don't have a six star to give to the staff. They are out of chart, indeed.

Frank and his team were absolutely first class. From arrival to check-out they could not have been more helpful; whether it be offering directions, offering (free) drinks every afternoon/evening or booking restaurants with complimentary taxis.

The hotel was great. Room was spacious and very clean. When we returned to our room on the second day we found flowers and chocolates! The breakfast was excellent - a huge variety, which really set us up for a day of sightseeing.

Could not recommend this place enough.

My wife and I stayed here and were absolutely thrilled. It deserved to have a perfect rating. I don't know where to start.

When we were late for breakfast they literally kept the breakfast open.. FOR AN HOUR!!!!!
Upon arrival they sat us down, gave us a drink, explained how everything worked at the hotel, the surrounding area, places to eat. Everything. Business was handled with such class.

There are so many reasons to tell you that I loved this hotel but the special surprises are best left for you to find.

Room Tip: I prefer the first floor rooms in this hotel personally

Every positive thing said in the reviews we agree with! Staying here was like being a guest in someone's home. Truly one of the best hotel experiences we've ever had. Being awake at 5am with jet lag the first morning, Bishi was at the front desk and got us coffee (good coffee!) up to our rooms. Radka was most often at the front desk when we were there and was incredibly helpful with places to go, reservations and directions. After an incredible breakfast someone (usually Frank the owner/manager and another gentleman) was always available to get everyone driven to where they wanted to start the day. Coming back in the afternoon, there was always beverages from tea to wine offered. She and the other concierges were most helpful and accommodating. Truly hosts and hostesses. Thanks!

Room Tip: We like to sleep with the windows open so being on the street side can be noisy. We had a "sou...

Recently stayed 2 nights - unbelievable service from Frank and his team from the moment we checked in (provided with drinks while we completed our checkin). Room and bathroom spotless. Reception organised day tour and booked restaurant for dinner. First class.breakfast . On departure Frank not only drove us to train station but also assisted us with luggage and showed us where platforms were. Can't recommend this hotel highly enough.

I cannot imagine why anyone visiting Prague would stay any place else! This is a comfortable, friendly, immaculate hotel with the most helpful staff. Frank, the owner, is the perfect concierge, going out of his way to not only answer questions, but to actually take you to your destination in Prague in his personal car, or to pay your cab fare to it if he is unavailable! He personally took us to the train station, depositing us on the platform the day we left, to ensure we would have no problem.

Linda, Victoria, and Zbysek, who staff the front desk, speak excellent English and know which restaurants are the perfect match for you. They each go out of their way to give directions, and see that you have everything you need in the breakfast room and in your hotel room. Upon our 10:15 A.M. arrival and check-in, when the breakfast period was nearly over, they realized after our long flight from NY that we were probably starved. They insisted we enjoy the breakfast buffet, which we were technically not entitled to that day since we'd not been there the night before. How empathetic they were, to understand how we felt after a long flight with jet lag and hunger!

Speaking of breakfast, the buffet is beautifully and artfully presented in easy access stations with everything delicious. As soon as you complete a course and return to the buffet for something else, your dirty plates are whisked away with new place settings waiting for you with your next full plate.

We really appreciated the 24 hour availability of the beverage machine which allowed us to enjoy a cup of coffee or tea upon our return from a long walk (we were walking 5 to 8 miles per day around Prague and fortunately did not gain weight despite eating so much excellent food, all reasonably priced). One day we stopped at a lovely bakery and bought mini quiches to carry back to our hotel for lunch where we wanted to review some tour information for our afternoon plans. We walked into the pretty lobby, were greeted by Frank, who said "What did you buy?" We explained that we had some quiche for a quick lunch. Out came place mats, flatware, plus wine to enjoy at a lobby table! He even wanted to heat the quiches in the kitchen microwave! Where else would this happen?!

We often were offered a glass of wine or beer or of course, anything from the coffee machine, when we returned during the day. Zbysek brought hot tea to our room one evening after dinner so we didn't have to carry it upstairs.

This is a cozy and interesting place with brick floor lobby; we learned that it had been a horse stable long ago. The rooms are very well appointed with ample hanging and storage space and the bathroom is clean and modern with an excellent shower and soaps.

It is hard to find anything to wish for in Residence Agnes but if I had to change anything, I would add a hook or shelf in the bathroom for my personal kit. The second wish would be to have decaffeinated coffee available in the coffee machine. I drink regular coffee only until around 4:00 P.M. or else I am awake all night. Most Europeans do not drink decaf coffee so it is unnatural to have decaf available. But this is something that appeals to most Americans. I solved my problem in the evening by enjoying tea and really appreciated it after returning from dinner.

You cannot go wrong by booking a room here. The location allows for a comfortable walk to the center of things. A walk uphill to the castle is difficult but most other destinations are a comfortable walk.

There is no question that we would return to this hotel.
