“Great hotel, and surprisingly easy to get to”

Congress and conference hotels are often out of the way, and this one is no exception - but the transport system is so easy to use, it really didn't matter. The hotel is joined to the metro station by a nice shopping centre - so you don't even need to go out onto the street to head into town. It's 6 or 7 stops to get to the city centre, but if that doesn't bother you, this is a great option.

The rooms were modern and clean, with large windows. Comfortable bed, well serviced each day. The breakfast buffet was very extensive, with loads to choose from (inluding a very nice cake display!) and the staff were friendly and helpful (with excellent English). The pizza restaurant in the adjoining shopping centre (classier than it sounds) is also very nice indeed - and very reasonably priced for enormous pizzas!

Hotel Clarion
Full name Clarion Congress Hotel Prague****

If you think you know what 4 stars mean elsewhere, you better forget it once you are at the entry hall. This is Prague, not some Chile, Russia, or Bulgaria.
My most extraordinary surprise advantage in a long time was to be my stay in a 4-stars hotel in Prague.
I guess you may have an idea of passing through Prague. If you still keep that crazy plan, carry on, but do exactly what you mean – pass through Prague, do not stay over a night there. Not in a hotel.

In the Clarion hotel, as soon as you come to get a key to your room, the clerk will demand you to lay down a deposit. I have never been demanded a deposit until I’ve come to Prague! EUR 158, which you might eventually collect when you leave the hotel the next morning. EUR 108 of it is a security that you will pay the full price in the morning. OK, so I paid immediately, on the early afternoon before even I saw the room, else you do not get the key, naturally. That leaves a EUR 50 deposit for the case that you drink and eat up the whole content of the minibar. Which, by the way, does not contain goods for more than 12 EUR, street price. The door of the minibar are repelling anyway, and when your curiosity draws you to open it, the door hangs out crazily like a monkey swinging on one hand and you need to fix it now…
I will not touch the sweets the hotel people left on the bed – the sweets look as if I am not the first who has refused them. You would not probably test them either, I guess, even only due to the fancy sweet smell of the lavishly applied room perfume that is struggling to outpower ancient cigarette smoke.
The smell hits you just seconds before you see the carpet that should seriously think of refreshing.
When combined the stars, the service, and the extorted money of my deposit, the experience is raising adrenalin levels to the sky.
This hotel would not pass for a hotel in Bulgaria, and for that sum we stayed 5 nights there somewhere, in Bulgaria, watching salmons out of the window. In Slovenia, even in the center of Ljubljana, you get half the price for a quality that is two stars higher. Same in Chile, or England. No, this one in Prague, it is not a 4 stars, there must be some mistake, or is it a frozen-star level of early 80’s? The lookout from my windows reminds the movies of prison yards, the towels in the bath are weathered thin as if they have been suffering and starving lean for several years, and yes they do look like having been used much over the last century. Some guests seem to have bitten them many a time, and there is no doubt for the cause of their desperation. I would not mind that, indeed, only the 4 stars are shining to my eyes. If you compare the Clarion hotel in Prague to any hotel in Shanghai, you know that this 4-stars hotel in Prague boasts with 5 stars more than they really earn.
Oh, the window. It is safe-locked with a key so the guests would not jump in a desperate agony over the mixture of stunning surprises.
Why am I surprised when the elevator door does not open when I go for the breakfast? I should have walked, indeed. So it takes me on a round trip – top floor again, and back to the restaurant floor – this time the door opens finally.

Why did I not believe that Prague is a dear and expensive town! Regretfully, it is far less accommodating than nightmares.

I am dedicated to attending our guest comments on Tripadvisor and other social media; it is a great opportunity to perceive the hotel through our guests’ eyes and to rectify, from time to time, possible shortcomings to the full satisfaction of future guests. Other travellers then may judge whether and how the hotel management strives for (and succeeds in) improving their services based on the guest comments.
Of course, I always appreciate when our guests address directly me or any of my deputies to comment on the hotel services. If they do that during their stay at the hotel, we can always find a “win-win” solution, beneficial both for the guest and the hotel.
However, I admit I do not understand the sense of those comments which express but negative emotions, without pointing out to specific imperfection or neglect. Here the writer rather gives vents to his own ignorance and inability to communicate with the hotel staff.
During their stay, our guests may get all hotel services (at the restaurant, bar, hotel transport and many other) charged to their room account. The staff is only announced the guest’s name and room number, and the guest signs the receipt. Each gentlemanlike guest certainly understands that the payment guarantee is a common practice in most big international hotels; usually a credit card guarantee is used. If a guest does not have a credit card, upon check-in, the receptionist requests the payment for the stay and a deposit which is duly accounted for and repaid upon check-out. Experience has proven that without the guarantee many a “forgetful” guest leaves the hotel without having settled his account which results in considerable losses for the hotel.
The guest’s emotions triggered by him failing to understand the sense of the requested deposit is perceived in each sentence of the review. I do not want to give detailed explications, but several basic pieces of information are necessary. Our hotel is non-smoking, with the exception of the Smoking Lounge, which has a separate air-conditioning system taking the fumy air away from the hotel. After the departure of previous guests, our chambermaids give each room a thorough hygienic cleaning and use an approved non-allergic air-freshener product. The guests’ preferences vary. If possible, the receptionists make their possible to meet the guests’ wishes. Some guests prefer watching the traffic in the street, others prefer a calm room facing our tranquil yard. However, it is always necessary to communicate with the staff. The lift door of course does not open, if a guest gives it a kick …
Everything described by the guest may be solved in an elegant way, but only if the guest wishes to solve it. I am sorry about this way of communication. I personally enforce the staff to communicate with our guests on a high level, in order to prevent occurrence of similar cases of lack of communication between a guest and the hotel. I wish a pleasant stay at our hotel to all future guests.

Nice hotel, only 10 min from city center with the metro under the hotel. It has a huge parking on 3 levels. Nice quiet rooms, huge and correct breakfast. Pretty bussiness oriented hotel, not romantic at all, but very clean and with helpful staff.

Stayed at this hotel for 5 nights during St. Patrick's week.
It's a four star establishment and in my opinion, deserves all four.
Located very close to the metro, therefore it is very easy to be in the Old Town in about 15 min.
Would certainly stay here again

Great breakfast with lots to chose from. Very far out of town but the Metro stops in the hotel where there also a shopping complex,Metro is not wheelchair friendly.Tourist office on site giving great service and advice.Staff were helpful.There was a large crowd of us at the reception desk but we were not delayed,as staff were deployed from other areas of the hotel.

This hotel was part of a Cosmos tour... we were pleasantly surprised to find the rooms were very generous in size! The rooms were adequate, clean and met all needs. Breakfast was included in this hotel and the continental buffet breakfast was very good. An added feature for this hotel would be the extensive shopping complex under the hotel , meaning guests do not have to venture too far to have their needs met.
