Owner description: On the initiative of the newly created Czechoslovak government, in 1947 the National Suffering Memorial was opened on the site of the suffering of tens of thousands; it was later on renamed the Terezin Memorial. The key mission of the Terezin Memorial, the only institution of its kind in the Czech Republic, is to commemorate the victims of the Nazi political and racial persecution during the occupation of the Czech lands in World War II, to promote museum, research and educational activities, and look after the memorial sites connected with the suffering and death of dozens of thousands of victims of violence.

Went with Wittmann tours and had a thorough and informative tour of the fortress town and Small Fortress. Our guide could answer all our questions and had so many interesting stories that one might not have with other operations. It was a full six hours and a good ride to and from Terezin where she talked about the countryside as well.

Amazing place! So sad to see all the suffering that occurred here through the years.A must see for everyone to understand the brutality that occurred here. This is place to think how cruel could be a man for another man. You should stop here to imagine how beautiful should be a world without wars and hate.

Forget the ultra expensive guided trips. Get on the bus from Prague to Terezin - it is a scenic 1 hour drive. Get out at the stop near the small fortress, before you get to town. You must retrace the bus - go back up the road 10 minutes, and there it is. Get the free guided tour, very much worth it, see some of the films (not gory), and then spend at least 30 min at the museum learning about the Czech resistance movement and the heroes who ended up at the fortress. Then take the road back to town (make a right when you get to the river). Tour the Ghetto Museum, it is useful for those who know little about the Holocaust. Then go to the Magdaburske barracks which I found more interesting. It details the amazing cultural life of the Jews imprisoned in Terezin - the paintings, cartoons, newspapers and music. Even operas and sonatas were written there. Fascinating. I wish the signage was better and I wish the museums gave more information about the Jewish community - but still, a must see. BTW, the town is still VERY creepy, I can't explain why.

An informative, thought provoking, step into a darker part of Czech & World history. The guide was very informative with anecdotal tales and history as you were guided around the camp. Value for money excursion, and also a nice drive from Prague to see some more of the Czech countryside.

The local guide whom gave us the tour was very informative. The only negative thing about the tour was our time schedule, it was so much to take in and I felt like we needed more time. If you are claustrophobic - let the guide know due to the walking in a five hundred meters long tunnel. There are no words to describe, you need to experience this your self!
