“Nice scenery and walk paths”
Reviewed 8 January 2014 via mobile

Whoever likes taking long walks, should not miss this one regardless of the season (summer, winter etc). Take the tram to the lake and walk the path all the way from the tram stop, to the bridge opposite the castle and from there to the castle. There are other tracks to follow but this is the best one.

“Good When Taken in Context”
Reviewed 6 July 2013

Veveri castle could come across as dissappointing if one is not familliar with the history of abuses it has suffered, several in the latter half of the 20th century. Reconstructions and restorations are a relatively recent development for this particular castle.

The Nazis used it during WWII and gutted it while in the process of retreating late in the war. Under Socialism, and even for a while after the fall of Socialism, it was refitted for use as government offices. In light of such things, it's surprising that there is as much left of it as there is.

Veveri caslte is not only a lesson in what happens when history is not respected or valued. It also gives the visitor an insight into what is involved in bringing such places back to their former glories, or as close as they can be brought back.

It's worth the visit as long as you keep in mind what you're looking at when you see it.

“Not happy with the trip”
Reviewed 12 December 2012

I was disappointed with this experience as there is really nothing to see in the castle - you actually cant go inside - so you can just walk around and we could look around from a tower. Btw the food and beverage was very pricey....

“A nice castle, go by boat”
Reviewed 12 December 2012

Considering other castles of Moravia and Bohemia, this is just an average castle as far as the buildings are concerned. But the environs are really nice, boat trip to the castle (from Brno) is definitely recommended, and they sometimes sell very nice Moravian wines at a castle shop.

BTW, the name of the castle is just "Hrad Veveri", one could write "Statni hrad Veveri", but that makes little sense. "Statnim Hrade Veveri" is completely wrong...

“Out-of-the-town castle”
Reviewed 19 July 2012

Old castle that had been very well reconstructed over the recent years basically out of ruin, located in beautiful countryside around Brno with possibilities of nice walks and cycling trips. There's a lot to see at this castle, including a museum, sights of the area around it and mainly special events that are going on from time to time.
