“Good centrally located hotel”
Reviewed 13 October 2010

My husband and I stayed here while going to the Motogp. The hotel was in a great location, easy walking distance to the town centre and trams and buses just out the front door. The rooms were large and clean with good beds. We were able to walk to and from the bus drop off point which was convenient. Breakfast was fantastic with a good range of food. The internet was not free and expensive to buy around 10 euro a day. As we were already paying a premium because of the motogp we found this a bit annoying.

This was my second stay at the hotel and I would definitely recommend it and stay again. I have stayed in double rooms (very spacious) and in single rooms (a bit tighter, but very inexpensive). The reception & restaurant staff speak perfect English and are always very accommodating. The location is across from the train and bus station and offers great access to many downtown restaurants, stores, or across the street to the mall, grocery story, etc. I stayed away from the businesses next door to the hotel that didn't look so appealing- and just walked a block further to the main shopping/eating areas that lead to the square. The complimentary breakfast is good with nice variety- and you can even ask for a made to order omelette. They also have good room service food (a rarity). The lobby is not luxurious, but the rooms have been updated, with nice marble baths and have always been clean. I suggest asking in advance for a room on a non-smoking floor (if that is what you want) and if you are a light sleeper, ask for one facing the rear of the hotel. The rates are usually quite good (except when a fair is in town) - but sometimes cheaper rates are available on gtahotels.com. Otherwise, I think it is competitively priced with other similar hotels (single rooms are often cheaper). Note: free internet is in the lobby (wifi or a shared computer), otherwise you must pay for internet access in the rooms.

We were primarily concerned with location near the trains and the old city. This was the closest hotel to the train station.

The hotel was clean, breakfast was fine. It is a little old and tired in places - but we had a good night sleep, internet worked fine, free internet in lobby and a nice day in Brno.

The hotel didn't have rooms larger than 3 people when we were there. So we had to split into a 2 and a 3.

The staff was nice with good restaurant recommendations.

The hotel provided my bedroom accommodation and was a venue for a 5 day training course. The bedroom was well appointed and had everything that I required. The support given during the training - both facilities and catering - was excellent.

It is central to the city of Brno. An atmosphere that is relaxed and youthful. And interesting to explore.

In my work I travel extensively throughout Europe. The Grand Hotel is in the top 3 locations that I have stayed. It also represents excellent value for money.

I look forward to visiting again!

Super hotel, centrally positioned, good breakfast.
Only downside I found was that smoking is still permitted in public areas so a n on smoking room must be requested.
Compared to other hotels in the region, this is not cheap but is good

I was booked in to the Grandhotel Brno for 2 nights, that due to circumstances had to be extended to a full week. The first 2 nights I was on the 2nd floor and was very impressed with the room. It was clean, tidy with a rather opulent feel to it. I had then to check out of this room and relocate to the 4th floor.

There I felt like I had been put in a cheap extension! The hair dryer did not work, the bath screen was trapped so you could not move it to put the plug in to the bath without physically climbing into the bath itself. By far the worst thing was it was situated next to the staff lift, which made the most horrid loud noise repetitively throughout the day, stopping at around 6.30pm. The noise resonated around the room and made the doors of the wardrobe shudder. It clunked going up and clunked going down. Finally, I gave up trying to work from my room and went and sat in the lobby.

Had I only had the first two nights in the Grandhotel, I would have said for the money it was one of the best stays I have had. Unfortunately, the bad experience on the fourth floor soured my judgement to be honest.

The staff were helpful, friendly and spoke good English. They answered all my queries and went out of their way to be of assistance. I would say the style of hanging around your table and grabbing your plate before you had finished the last mouthful was disconcerting and as someone who gets put off by people hovvering around, it was annoying but I think this was due to lack of being busy and wanting to look like they were and the upside was the dining room was kept very tidy at all times.

Breakfast was good. A fine selection of continental or cooked breakfast, coffee and juice on tap. Meals in house were reasonable and of good quality. I was more than happy to eat in.

I would definitely go again but would insist on a room in the older part of the building.
