When I got invited to a friend's wedding taking place in Lednice, I did not know what to expect.

But the Chateau is a true beauty and when you are in the area, it is a sight you may not want to miss. There is an entrance fee to go into the castle or the greenhouse. But even if you decide not to go inside, the park and the Chateau are a real treat.

It stands out with its architecture and the light colours used for its exterior appearance. If you are marrying someone, Lednice may be just the place to do so. The chapel is neat, not too large or too small and the ball room in close proximity offers space for - I would say - 200 people.

Lednice, Czech Republic is a beautiful small town in South Moravia, and it has plenty to see for a day trip or even a relaxing weekend away. It's quite romantic, and the park beside it has a nice trail with plenty of surprises along the way (like a Turkish building in the middle of the 1.5 km path), along with boat rides to another castle (reminding you of a small Venice). Near the chateau, there are a few restaurants (we ate at Mario and it was great food plus the server spoke English), along with wineries where you can enjoy tastings. The entrance into the castle was about 4 EUR, but to walk around the grounds outside is free. You can also rent bikes from different tourist areas. Hotel Princ looked lovely (right beside Mario and just around the corner from the bus stops).

Lednice was 15 minutes by bus from Breclav (about 1 hour by train from Bratislava and 2.30 hours from Vienna). The train ticket from Bratislava to Breclav was 9 EUR return, and the bus ticket to Lednice was about 2 EUR one way. The bus stop in Breclav where you get the bus to Lednice is about a five-minute walk from the train station. You turn right out of the station and then turn left on the street with the Mexican restaurant, and you'll see Lednice on the bus schedule of one of the platforms.

Overall a great (and often overlooked) destination in the Czech Republic!

Definitely visit the state rooms, of you visit the 1st time (and are from a coutry, where the castles are rare). If you allready had your share of castles, go for Family appartments (II.). Very interesting, including 2 full bathrooms and a grand piano :)

Summer residence of Liechenstein family is absolutely amazing, especially all woodcarving you can find there - ceilings, doors, stairways, furniture...It has a noblesse and style. Half of Moravia had to work for Liechenstein family so they could afford such a nice chateau and 200 hectars of cultivated landscape - lakes, rivers, artificial channels, French and English gardens, artificial ruines etc. etc. With its wine area around, this is one of the most beautiful places in Czech to visit.

The tour is worth it, even though they only offer it in Czech. They have however some information on paper in several foreign languages. The winter garden is also nice to visit. The gardens are truly magnificent, even though we were a bit early for flowers beyond tulips. The entire visit is probably worth 3 to 4 hours at least.
