If you are in Roznov you simply do not want to miss it. There are 3 main areas you can visit (The Wallachian Village, The Wooden Townlet and The Water Mill Valley), depending on how much time you want to spend there. You can be there just a few hours or all day. During the main season you can also visit traditional fairs :) Highly recommended!

This open air museum consists of 3 parts. We started with the Water Mill Valley which requires that you join a guided tour. The barn filled with equipment and vehicles had lots of information in English. The only problem was that the guide moved on before we were done. The buildings had a little information in English and there were lots of demonstrations which helped us understand more about the workings of the various mills.

The second stop was the Wallachian Village. It is right next to and very much uphill from the mill area. There are many farmhouses and cottages as well as some interesting animals widely dispersed around the hillsides. It was very hot and there was not much shade between buildings. The blacksmith was selling items rather than creating them. There were a couple of interpreters who worked very hard to help us understand the buildings. We had lunch at the inn where we found a cool breeze as well as good food.

The third section, and my favorite, was the Wooden Townlet. This is the original part of the museum. It is on level ground with lots of trees for shade. Buildings are more varied and closer together. Don't miss the beehives! There are some shops as well as craftspeople working outside the buildings. The interpreters again worked really hard to help us understand as much as possible.

There is also a mountain chalet complex, Pustnevy, about 20 km away but we did not know about it in time to visit.
