My partner and i stayed at the Hilton in Gdansk this week, in fact we just arrived home and thought it best to write whilst the memories where still fresh in my mind.
Arrived at 10.30 but could not get in the room until 14.00. Thats fine they gave us a map of the town and looked after our luggage. On arrival i was immediately asked if we wanted to upgrade to a waterfront superior room for an extra 150 zl per night but declined as it was already £120 per night anyway, and had requested a waterfront room with the booking. On arrival in the room it was adequate, clean, a good size and all we wanted. BUT!!!!!! we had a brick wall 5 metres from our window and 3 windows directly facing into our room.
Now all of my readers will know i speak as i find and as this was a special treat for my Polska Princess a view was not going to mar our romantic tryst.
The location is superb, the rooms are great, the service apart from the miserable barman was great and hey, i'm told i have a miserable face too so maybe he was just mimicking me.
The Breakfast was sumptuous, more than adequate and catered for all.
Rooms cleaned everyday to a high standard and the private taxi company they supply is to say the least, luxurious and cheaper than a regular taxi but book through the hotel reception.
I cant fault this hotel, it comes highly recommended from us both.
The downside !!!!!! My girlfriend left her i phone charger in the room and now her phone is dead. Please read my review on 2 particular restaurants and the solidarnosc museum

Room Tip: Insist on a waterfront view at the advertised price not as an extra

This hotel is superbly located by the old town and on the river. The reception staff were helpful and spoke good English. There was a great rooftop pool with terrace and loungers overlooking the river and town. The bar prices seemed quite expensive here compared with the pavement cafes and restaurants near to the hotel. We had a room for three adults and this was a great size and reasonably priced.

Room Tip: Ask for a river view room

My first visit to Gdansk was a delight! Conveniently located upscale hotel with nice amenities. Walking distance along the river to the quaint, beautiful town. Lots of reasonably priced shops and a huge assortment of amber jewelry. Numerous museums in the area. If that isn't endorsement enough, Jon Bon Jovi and his entourage were staying there at the same time for a concert in town. Would love to go back and see more of this beautiful town.

Three nights at the Gdansk Hilton and I would return tomorrow. Very professional operation - everything works. Rooms are large, comfortable and well appointed - ours also had a great view extending right down the water front. The breakfast buffet was excellent with a wide selection of hot and cold choices. Staff were helpful. Location is undoubtedly the best in town. Overall a great choice for a few days in 'old town' Gdansk.

Room Tip: Premium rooms have gorgeous views along the waterfront.

I have stayed several times at this hotel and it has consistently been very good value. The location is great, staff very friendly and breakfast buffet copious and varied. Rooms are good size, quiet and comfortable.

Small but good gym and pool/sauna to use if you want to warm up in winter times.

Good base to walk around the old town and to the Madison shopping center.

Room Tip: King rooms facing river are nice.

thank you hilton once again. i mean before i became a trip advisor member we had stayed at other hiltons in usa. not to mention...but i will mention it....my favorite on singer island, riviera beach, florida...super! anyway, our phone call from germany arranging a taxi pick up from the airport...thanks Joann (?) on the telephone she spoke english and was very courteous. the driver was on time and drove a very clean black shiny mercedes brand station wagon. as far as a trip advisor member complaining about hiltons offer to consider a room upgrade...well they are not PUSHING you to take it. they offer it..so? what is wrong with that? you do not HAVE to take it. my oh my. well we did because the jr. suite was very comfortable and since we spent more time in the room then we had planned to. we had a view to the harbor. it was EVERY cent worth! more to this statement in the next paragraph. our room was 225. well the lobby, the elevator, the hall, the room, under the bed (which chambermaids seem to think that the floor under the bed does not pertain to the floor 'cause sometimes i have to report it right away and have it vacuumed or whatever or i would change the room...this is a no, no)..our room was perfect. the bathroom were so clean and modern. i say again..thank you hilton for the comfort and amenities too.

the hotel location was perfect. in the city and on the harbor promenade. lots of restaurants and jewelry stores where amber is their main product in danzig. to the main pedestrian area where other shops and restaurants are including museums is about a 10 minute walk. TIP! i do not suggest going to danzig on any religious holiday. we had THOUGHT that at least the museums would be open. we flew over on the easter weekend and arrived thursday early afternoon. we took the time to look around and discover and we wound up in the maritime museum. the next day we took the pirate ship tour ride to the war monument "westend plate" at 1pm after discovering the city here and there and looking for an open museum. nothing was open. so one goes souvenir shopping. the churches were closed. only open during the service hours. the stores closed at 4 pm. lots of tourists but the main sites closed. sure, we understood that it was good friday but let's not exaggerate. they could have kept it a little longer like in seville last year. the country needs alot of money to rebuild.

on saturday early morning we took a tour guide over to malbork castle. i must unfortunately have to make a comment about our tour guide. middle 70 year old man with a car which was not impressive. i mean it doesn't have to be a bmw like we are used too but even "old timers" need shock absorbers and more comfort. alittle embarassing driving up to the site and paying ca. 150 euros for the trip. the guide himself thought it was funny to tell some (let me put it mildly...) not very "clean" jokes. we were not impressed. we went to lunch on the premises. a nice dungeon like restaurant. the goulash was good! we were glad to get back and have our peace because he had non stop spoke.... nonsence. was supposed to be able to speak the english/german language but could hardly understand him. later i had asked one of the taxi drivers outside the hotel and they would have charged ca. 100 euros without him guiding us but at malbork you can have an audio guide and our guide was trying to go through the castle real quick and we had to slow him down. the taxi would be better for your back and kidneys.

HILTON...sorry, do not suggest him to your guests. later after twiddling our thumbs and resting in the room we decided to take a taxi to the shopping mall GALERIA. we arrived and sat down to have a coffee and cake. suddenly i see that one store after another was closing..huh? well, we had 15 minutes to finish and they closed up. well, we could have been told that from the taxi driver but ok...he needs his money too.

on sunday...easy. no reason to get up earlier and go sightseeing. closed! so down to hiltons delicious breakfast buffet again. ask for omelets and sunny side up fried eggs..delicious. i must say too that scrambled eggs are not "scrambled eggs". hotels offer always with their breakfast buffet scrambled eggs but some taste TERRIBLE. dry, watery, powdery but hiltons were fresh, buttery and good. when we stay longer in a hotel i need variable egg dishes. then, we went for alittle walk and back to our room. sat on the couch looking out to the harbor and reading the few danzig history books bought since the sites were closed. the bar restaurants club sandwhich was very good and chicken burger. the hotel restaurants fish dinner was delicious. thanks..MICHEL. a very good waiter. an asset to your hotel!

on monday morning we checked out after the wonderful breakfast and we took the nice black mercedes taxi which you find everyday in front of the hotel waiting for customers. HILTON we will be back in another city!
