“Great value”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 July 2014

The hotel itself is somewhat hidden away in the back alleys of the main streets and the surrounding areas are not very pretty but it’s only a short walk until you hit the main streets in the old town of Gdansk. The hotels interior looks very good and the staff were polite and helpful. The restaurant was magnificent as well especially the breakfast. I have to point out a negative thing though which annoyed us quite a lot and that is all the noise that was made in the hallway by the cleaning personnel every morning starting around 08:00. I wish they could be more considerate towards guest trying to sleep in a bit during their vacation. There was also this quite annoying “elevator / lounge music” playing in the hallways just loud enough so it was noticeable in the room.

A surprisingly sensational hotel in the old city of Gdansk. I have been to many parts of Europe and Gdansk continues to be one of the most beautiful cities I've seen. So much beauty and so much history in one place. The Grand Cru is a wonderful find as it's in the old city of Gdansk and just minutes to everywhere you'd want to be. It's a gorgeous 1,000 year old building with a very chic, modern feel inside. I loved seeing 8 foot deep brick walls that can withstand a nuclear bomb while getting exquisite, ultra modern amenities. Absolutely loved the room. The staff was extra polite and very helpful and made it a point to go out of their way to help us with anything we needed. Down below ground is a spectacular wine cellar that once again, combines the old-world aesthetics with new stylish and luminous feel for an artfully splendid ambiance. The breakfast buffet was also extraordinary with a great combination of world and Polish foods. I couldn't get enough. Overall, my experience at this hotel was superb and I highly recommend it.

I had not been to Gdansk before despite knowing of its history as a Hanseatic Port and role in the history of Pomerania - but had not expected the city to be quite so lovely. The Hotel Grand Cru was a perfect place to stay - a sympathetically restored former warehouse, stylish and lavishly equipped - but still friendly and great value.
I soon realised that the hotel is in a terrific location - a little way from the city centre in a quiet area and actually only a short walk from everything you want to see - very close to the river - and a great base from which to explore Gdansk - which is an easy & delightful city to walk around.
The room was very smart & comfortable - very fancy bathroom; breakfast was as fine a feast as you could ever dream of starting the day with and I found all the staff friendly & welcoming - which is a real bonus.
I couldn't fault the Hotel Grand Cru - it lives up to all the great reviews.

Room Tip: I had room 304 - facing the canal where there was dredging & construction work going on - not a...

Nothing to complain about. You get what you pay for. Comfortable beds. Fresh, clean, functional hotel. Ecological liquid soap in the bathroom (no other products). There is a very pleasant ambience both in the hotel and between all the people working there. It's kind of humble friendliness, if one may say so.
Generous breakfast that includes everything from cakes to pickled vegetables.

The location is on the fringes of the tourist area and you can readily see that the locale is in transition. The old building exterior gives it charm and the interior luxury gives it value. Situated minutes from the quayside [very close to the Hilton], it lives up to all of the positive reviews. The buffet breakfast ticks all of the boxes and you can have your eggs cooked to order. The room safe was a bit high for my wife [5'1''] and the bathroom with its sliding glass door had no extractor fan which I thought was an oversight. There is a coffee maker, iron and hairdryer in the room so again all of the bases covered. Air conditioning was not needed so cannot comment there. TV had just one English Euronews channel. The staff speak excellent English and maintain high standards of professionalism. Around the corner from the hotel down a side lane is a very popular ice cream parlour [Lody Mis: see photo] which had locals lined up on the Sunday afternoon.

This i a new hotel, but as I understand it, in an old building. The rooms are modern, spacious and were clean. Bathroom is also spacious, and uses frosted glass as a wall between the room. Upon arrival we were welcomed in a polite and professional manner.

The room was very quiet, and there were no disturbances from other guest. We didn't have breakfast here, so I can't tell you anything about that. Just a few minutes away you are in the middle of the old town. It took 8 - 10 minutes to walk to the nearest tram line. The hotel offers a transport service, but we didn't try that service.

Room Tip: Can't say

I understand this hotel is fairly new, but in an old building. It certainly feels charming and warm with the exposed brick around the place. It's within a stone's throw of all the main sites in Gdansk and close enough to walk to the train, tram and bus stations should you wish to travel further afield.

The rooms are warm and well appointed, modern, clean and large. I loved the bathroom especially the use of glass and the mirror that is visible both inside and outside the bathroom. Nice smelly soap and body wash too.

The staff we encountered at reception were friendly and knowledgeable and helped us with various directions. I speak Polish so understanding them was not an issue, but my partner does not speak Polish and they made every effort to speak in English too. The hotel has free, strong wi-fi throughout.

My only disappointment was that I wanted to use the sauna but it was out of action for the 2 nights we stayed. Just a minor annoyance.

Gdansk is a very pretty town and I really loved my stay. Lots of work is being undertaken so in the future it will be even better. Sopot is also very scenic and worth the 20 minute train trip. Beautiful pier and views.

Take care though, because when the wind comes up it can be really cold. Despite visiting in early May, we were blasted with some really cool conditions that saw the temperature fall to 1 degree! Be prepared for every eventuality.

Don't miss Gdansk. And definitely stay at the Grand Cru.
