I used to stay at Hevelius for the last 20 years, whenever I've visited Gdansk. I saw how it changed from a shabby communist monster into a clean and fine, and ever more cosy (although ever more pricey) hotel, as the Mercure brandname implies. Yet, the biggest advantage of Hevelius is its ideal location. It is situated just next to the old town and you won't miss it from any spot of the old town. Neither from the bus or train station, since both are located right next to Hevelius. Finally, if you travel by car, it is probably one of the most easily accessible hotels in the downtown Gdansk.

Room Tip: Rooms looking westwards are suitable to enjoy wonderful sunsets.

From other reviews of this hotel I thought I was going to stay at somewhere reasonable and I certainly wasn't disappointed.
From arriving at the hotel to my departure 3 days later, the staff looked after every request , nothing was too much trouble and they could not have been more helpful.
My room on the 11th floor had a beautiful view over the old town.The room itself was very clean and furnished extremely comfortably, ensuring a good rest at all times.The location meant that all areas of the city were accessible on foot, it really is a very walkable city.
The cost of the hotel was very reasonable and the buffet style breakfasts in their lovely restaurant were more than enough to set me up for the day.
I'll certainly use this hotel again when I return to Gdansk, which hopefully will be soon.

Good normal busines hotel enchanced by the "lower" staff who worked so hrd to make it memorable above the normal "plastic" hotel.
Best people were, ok not meant to name but Ez and DanU superbe the whole week, spoilt by an ego manager who seemed to enjoy balling out all staff infront of the clients without reason name . Reminds me of the Monk Benadidict

Seriously all, but one, very professional, cheery people and great for business..in that respect very friendly,

I enjoyed, becauces of the rapor.
Eric

The good points;

-Nice modern reception area
-Decent breakfast selection

The bad points;

-The rooms were exceptionally hot; centrally controlled airconditioning and a broken window mechanism meant an unbearably hot sleep.

-Because of the above, we had to change rooms as we could not sleep, we needed a room with a functioning window; this meant changing rooms, what really annoyed us was the fact reception arranged the maintenance guy to quickly come and lock our "new" minibar.

-The above made us really upset and it was shoddy behaviour from a higher end hotel - what was to happen if we really wanted a drink, a total lack of trust for the guest!

-The sink in the original room was slow to drain and smelt quite bad.

If you travel to Gdansk for shopping, the location is perfect :) Just across the road you will find madison shoppingcentre.
We got a nice room at 16th floor, with a view. Maybe not the nicest view, but still a view! The room were nice and clean. Will recomend this hotel :)
