The view from my room was beautiful, good tv channels, nice staff, excellent buffet breakfast in the mornings! But really the location is the best part, even though everything else was great too, that's the major appeal of it.

My wife and I stayed at the Hanza Hotel for two nights on a recent visit to Gdansk.
The location of the hotel is ideal for visiting the historic old city , since it is located along the canal that is one of the main visitor attractions in Gdansk.
The hotel has an appealing, contemporary look from the canal-side, and fits in very well with the imposing restored buildings and towers along the canal.
We had requested a room overlooking the canal, and were fortunate enough to be assigned one on the first floor that had a balcony overlooking the canal.
The weather was ideal during our stay; sunny and mild spring days and cool nights. The canal-side cafes and restaurants were very busy, and so were the tour boats, as strollers passed by, appreciating the fine weather and the lively social scene.
Our room had a bright, airy and contemporary vibe, a comfortable bed, attractive upholstered chairs, and a very serviceable bathroom, with shower/tub and an adequate supply of towels and toiletries. The temperature of the shower fluctuated greatly, but that was our only - and minor - inconvenience.
Given its excellent location, and the wonderful views from the room and its balcony, along with an attractive area of outside seating for having a coffee, a drink and/or a drink while watching the passing scene along the canal side, we considered this an ideal place to stay for a few days, and at a very reasonable price.
The hotel is ideally located for walking around the mainly pedestrian-zoned streets of the restored old city, with its rows of highly decorated renaissance buildings, multiple churches and monumental public buildings.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the canal add a lot to the overall enjoyment of staying at this hotel.

Stayed here during the Easter (2014) and enjoyed it a lot. The rooms were big, light and comfortable. Felt like I was sleeping in my own bed. Tried the spa once - the Hanza Signature massage - and it was very good but i felt that she was stressing a lot so it was a little hard to relax sometimes. But the hotel was superb at service. Breakfast was very good but quite expensive. We only ate breakfast at the hotel one time during or staying. A lot cheaper to eat on one of the restaurants in Gdansk. Our absolute favorite place to eat dinner was Sfinx. We ate there about three times and it tasted very good each time. We also enjoyed the pizza on this little restaurant near St. Mary's church called Kos. For shopping I recommend the Madison centre which is about 5 mins from the hotel when walking. I can also recommend the centre called Riviera in Gdynia. Its a very big centre so prepare to use a whole day. We took a taxi to Gdynia, and it costed us about 90 pln (zloty), which is about 180 norwegian kroner (for you norwegians out there).

All in all, Gdansk is really wonderful and I enjoyed it a lot! I also recommend you to go to the death camp Stutthof if you're interested in that kind of stuff. We had a guide with us who picked us up at the hotel, drove us to Stutthof, guided us through Stutthof, and drove us back to the hotel. It was very nice because most of the info in Stutthof stands in polish. We got our guide from getyourguide.com.

Enjoy your staying!

Hanza Hotel is situated in the very middle of the old city, along the river. Bus stop right outside the door, short walk to most major sights. Good beds. Service is good. we only had one meal in the restaurant, since it was the least tasteful meal we had in Gdansk. Roast dock breast with apples and dumplings, apples and dumplings were ok, but the duck was not tender at all. And the waiter did not bother to ask. We preferred to take the rest of our meals elsewere, But the breakfast was fine. The hotel has a slight air of being impersonal. Wifi was a bit unstable,. But we would stay there again.

Room Tip: Most rooms seemed to be ok. During summer there might be some noise from the restaurant in the rooms...

Very competent hotel right on the river. My bedroom was enormous with lots of storage space and couches. The breakfast buffet was excellent. The hotel is situated right on the river and is well placed for exploring.

One minor complaint was the old 1980s era music that played over and over again in the hotel stereo. Move with the times people!

A perfect hotel located right by the famous Gdansk Crane in the heart of the historic center. My husband and I loved this charming hotel that was ideal example of how a boutique hotel should be...full of local character and local hospitality. The rooms were very well decorated, the wifi was strong, the mattress was comfortable and the view and location were perfect. I would most definitely recommend this hotel to anyone and plan on staying in it again.

Thanks to a single visit at Hanza I now know what place to recommend to others and where to stay if I ever come to Gdansk again. Really, everything from the beginning to the end deserved praise. The location was convenient, the service was friendly, the wireless connection in the room worked fast, the room was nicely equipped (e.g. with an electric kettle -- which is, unfortunately, not the case for all the hotels of a comparable category).

The only 'wrinkle' I can mention is breakfast. I cannot say anything about its quality but since the price was too high for my liking I decided to experiment trying out a number of cafes located in the hotel's vicinity. I *can* confirm, though, that the food at the hotel's restaurant ("Kokieteria") is undoubtedly delicious. I was even lucky enough to get both a bonus starter (eggplant stuffed with cheese) and a bonus dessert (chocolate cake).
