I thought my city was nice, but the old town in Gdansk is something of it´s own. So so so much to see and you will be amazed by all the different architecture! Look up !

We only managed a few hours in Gdansk on a guided tour from a cruise. The Old Town is something special and we did see all the major sights. It was my first visit to anywhere in Poland and Iwas impressed. The architecture is varied and interesting especially in Long Markt. I wanted to make sure that I had a Polish beer while I was there and sat outside and had a decent beer for a very reasonable price in the tourist hot spot of Gdansk. I'd just like to go back for a couple of days to see what we missed and enjoy the best bits again.

What a beauty!
Take time and have a look at the beautful facades of the houses in the Old Town. Absolutely amazing and you really breeze the charme of the old Hanse days

The Old Town is beautiful, full of amazing buildings and lovely restaurants. The Polish people are so lovely - not pushy as in some countries. When you tell them that you have eaten - they say 'O.k hope you enjoyed it - try us next time'. There is something to see everywhere you look, and the more times you walk through you see things that you've missed first time round ! The street entertainers add to the atmosphere, there is something going on all the time but still has that 'olde worlde' charm. Definately well worth spending a long weekend there.

Like many European cities, Gdansk has retained a few of its architectural treasures and rebuilt many others lost to WWII. The Old Town area is an eclectic mix of restaurants, shops, and street merchants with a mix of museums, historic structures, and a pigeon lady thrown in for good measure. Many shops display amber, gold & silver jewelry, scarves, leather goods, pottery, crystal, and other wares. Restaurants abound, though finding a good one might prove more difficult than one might suspect.

Plan on dedicating at least a day to exploring Old Town and take in a museum or two. Then head out to Westerplatte and the ship building area where the Solidarity Movement started in the 1980's. So much history and so little time….
