The Krolewski is a modern hotel in an historic setting. In olden days the building was the Royal Granary - from post-war photos it is clear this was one of few buildings to survive the city centre bombings. Its recently been transformed into a stylish hotel but keeping as much of the old external feel as possible. A really nice place to spend time.

Good points - If you get a room facing over the river, you'll have the best view of Gdansk possible - make sure to ask because this makes all the difference. The rooms are smart and newly furnished. The staff are pleasant and helpful. The breakfast is pretty good, and the dinner menu looked nice (though I didn't try it). WIFI is free.

Things to note - No safe in the room (there is a safe at Reception instead) and no tea/coffee facilities (!). Not much in the way of extra facilities like pool, gym, etc or business centre.

More importantly the hotel is sited across the river from the Old Town which means maybe a 10-15 min walk into town during winter. Not an unpleasant walk and there is lots of development going up there (especially the nice bar/restaurant at the new Hotel Gdansk) but less fun in the rain. In summer, there is a ferry across the river from the nearby Maritime Museum. Taxis seem to arrive very quickly when ordered. All in all, I wouldn't hold the location against the Krolewski - and you get the fantastic views into town as compensation.

My husband and I stayed here with our 3 year old at Easter. We found the Krolewski an excellent hotel. We were lucky enough to get a corner room with dual aspect out over the river. The room was large and bright and our toddler slept soundly on the specially made-up sofa.

The staff were all very helpful and spoke excellent English. We found them particularly friendly. They were particularly welcoming to our little girl and tolerated her making the place her own!

The breakfast buffet was very tasty and always well stocked.

Like other reviewers, we didn't find the short walk across the bridge to get to the Hotel a problem (even in rather grim Gdansk weather). In fact, it was something of a relief to escape some of the overtouristy old town.

The hotel is situated next to Gdansk's classical concert hall and we enjoyed watching the orchestra members and later the concert audiences coming and going in the evenings.

We thought it was a great hotel and would recommend it to others, especially if you have kids and are looking for a place that won't turn their noses up at them.

I am always very mindful of the Tripadvisor reviews and those for this hotel were generally positive so I gave it a go...

First impressions are good, it's a nice building and the foyer & restaurant, although small, look very well appointed.

As with all hotels I've stayed at in Poland, the staff were helpful. The problem was with the room....it was very small and the decor was what, if you're a Brit, you would imagine a Travelodge from the seventies would look like.

But the main issue was the heat.....when the weather is good, I would consider the rooms to be virtually uninhabitable.

This, combined with noisy road works at the front of the hotel at 8 a.m. and major major work on a massive Hilton hotel opposite, made for a less than peaceful sleep.

Breakfast was very basic but being able to eat it outside by the river was a definite plus, Other reviewers have mentioned the location as an issue but as long as you don't mind a ten minute walk it is, in fact, fine.

One more note... the management should be made aware that too much Rod Stewart is not a good thing. All in all, the worst of the five hotels I have stayed at in Poland.

The hotel looks extremely good on its website, and the location seems to be very central. And it is - for a bird, not on the road. 'Cause there are no bridge directly from the island of the hotel to the Old Town, so you have to walk 10-15 minutes. That's one point down.
The hotel provides no safe in the room - not good.
The rooms however are nice, although the beds are strangely build, so that you have to lie right in the middle of the mattress if you don't want to fall off. No cuddling with the spouse here!
Would I stay here again? No - I would definitely choose a hotel that actually IS close to the Old Town, not just with a view of it...

Met our expectations. We got the Captain's Apartment, on the top floor of the building with amazing views.
Breakfast was excellent, location is also very good (not right in the town centre but merely 10 minutes walk away).
The place is and feels a quality place, with good fittings, good restaurant and excellent service throughout. The only drawback I'd say is that in the apartment the views are from the living room, whist the bedroom hasn't got a window at all.
Definitely recommended.

We have just returned from a 4 night stay, with friends at the Krolewski. The rooms are pleasantly decorated and spacious. The breakfast buffet left us spoit for choice, and was topped up regularly. The restuarant menu was extensive, food very good, and competitive with those in the Old Quarter. This was a 10 min walk, but, there is a ferry (1zlty) which runs regularly during the day, for those less active. The hotel staff were friendly, approachable, and helpful. All in all an excellent 4 nights. We would certainly stay here again, and have no hesitation in recommending it to future travellers.

Just got back from a couple of days in Gadnsk, and thoroughly enjoyed all of it. I have to say, we are very easy going, but it was my husbands 1st trip to Poland, and he loved it. The hotel was lovely, we paid in total £200 for 2 nights bed, breakfast and evening meal, plus drinks, which for us is very good. We enjoyed the food, polish beer, cocktails, irish coffees, etc. £200 is probably considered expensive in Poland, but the surroundings and the staff made it well worth the money.

The hotel is on the far side of the river to the town centre, but we enjoyed the walk passed the Harbour masters office every night, and to be honest, people would'nt complain if they were in the docklands of London. We booked a deluxe double, but were given a small suite, with 2 tv's, lounge, bedroom, and bathroom. Ashamed to say we don't speak polish, but staff all speak very good english, and were really lovely, all the time .

In comparison, although we did'nt go in, the Podewils Hotel, which is very near, did'nt look nearly as inviting, and did'nt have the river view, so we were glad to have picked this one.
