“Good value not far from Gdansk Old Town”
Reviewed 24 August 2009

Around 10 mins walk from Old Town but a good quiet location. Much lower rates than the hotels in town because of location and student accommodation type rooms, but good value. Try to get a room on the interior side of the hotel otherwise there is some traffic noise. Lots of single rooms. About 240 PLN for high season single. It is on the campus of the Music Academy.

We ordered a double standard room that faced the quiet zone (the other side of the hotel is fronting the busiest traffic street in Gdansk, so I recommend to ask for the quiet side). Since my mother uses medicine that requires a fridge and our room didnt have one, so they upgraded our room to a bigger one with fridge without any extra costs! What a great service. Great breakfast as well! The staff is also very helpfull with any questions. The hotel is also VERY clean!!!! I just loved it!!!!

We stopped in the Dom Muzyka last September for 5 nights. We were extremely surprised how nice this hotel was...after a good 30/40 minute drive (our driver went quite fast as well!) from the airport, the hotel suddenly appeared! On first impressions, the Hotel appears to situated in a slightly run-down area-don't let that put you off. The locals were fine and there was no hint of trouble at all. The hotel staff were really friendly and the hotel was very clean, although some may find it slightly basic. We thought it was fine though.
As others have said, it shares its ground with a music school. We went in September and it it a reasonably sized hotel with 'wing' type buildings. We were told that one wing closed during the winter and all the guests stay in the main part of the hotel which is what we did.

The hotel is only a 6~7 minute slow walk into the Old Town...just don't do what we did! We went exploring the first night and took a wrong turn! It took about 40 minutes for us to walk into the town! The best way to go into town is: out of the hotel main reception, turn LEFT onto the road, go to the end then LEFT again. The town is then immediately in front of you just over the bridge. There is a supermarket here as well. You'll see a load of posh boats on your right (and the Hotel Gdansk is a little further down the river) and just over the bridge is the start of the town. The building you walk under is Lech Wałęsa's office.

Just on a side note, go to the shipyard and find the museum (it's underground), well worth finding and visiting.

I would go back to Gdansk and I would be very happy to stay in the Dom Muzyka again. I'd give it 8.8/10. Recommended.

I stayed here over Easter 2006 with my boyfriend and my brother. Location is great, just 5 mins walk to the old town and nice and quiet. It's part of a music school, so the corridors are decorated with music references, and occasionally you can here students at the other building practicing the flute or similar, which is quite nice!
Gdansk itself is very pretty, but not a good idea to go over Easter! All the local bars and restaurants closed very early on Good Friday and no alcohol was served anywhere, so we ended up eating at the hotel. The food was good, as was the service. The hotel bar/restaurant was open till around midnight. Staff were friendly and everyone spoke excellent English.
The rooms were pleasant, comfortable and clean. The double room had 2 single beds pushed together which made it a superking bed and the ensuite was perfectly adequate.

Another reason not to go at Easter is the local lads find it amusing to throw buckets of river water at unsuspecting tourists on Easter Sunday. I have no idea why! And I was not impressed!

Gdansk is very small so we covered the old town many times! There's a big Dutch influence to the old town, which was blitzed during the war and rebuilt exactly as it was. We visited the Town Hall which also served as a local museum and housed interesting local history and photos. A day trip to Sopot is worthwhile - the trains are very cheap. I wouldn't bother with Gdynia though, it's very industrial - rather like a day trip to Dover docks, with it's old grey 70s buildings!

This is a pleasantly quiet place to stay in a great location. It is simple to cross under the road to take the streetcar into the commercial part of the city, or to walk to the old part of the city. The restaurant had a nice breakfast selection. It serves other meals, though we did not use the opportunity - too many good places to eat in Gdansk.

We stayed at Dom Muzyka for 2 nights and had a very pleasant stay. It is part of a music school, hence the name, and is housed in a lovely looking old building. We were in Room 306 which was on the back of the building. Although it overlooked a busy dual carriageway, it was a quiet room when the window was closed, which wasn't a problem as the room had air con. The room itself offered all the bits we needed - comfortable double bed, table and chair, space to put our cases, a nice bathroom with shower, etc. I think if I went again, I would ask for a room overlooking the courtyard area away from the road simply because the view would be better and it would be easier to have the window open and not be so noisy. We ate in the restaurant when we arrived as we were so hungry, and this was OK but not exciting. Most of the food on offer was main course type dishes, which we didn't want for lunch, so we ended up with soups and salads. It is quite a big restaurant, and as there were only 4 of in the whole place at lunchtime, it was a bit quiet for our tastes! However when we went down for breakfast the next morning, it was quite different, busy with a good buffet breakfast laid out which was regularly replenished. The food was mainly cheese and meats, yogurts, breads and jams, cereal, etc so a goodly feast.

Location wise, it was convenient, with a walk of about 5-10 minutes to the centre of the lovely Old Town. Overall I would recommend this place.
