“Do not bother”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 May 2012

Do not bother to visit this place. We are with the familly for the long may week-end and we could not imagine worst place to stay. I do agree that the location of the hotel is great though - right on the beach in quiet single dwelling neibourghood.
Everything else is just below expected standard. The breakfasts are pure disaster just to start with. Staff of 5 people is not able to manage buffet breakfest for approx. 20 guest. Everyone is running wild around the dinning hall while tables are not made, cups, spoons, coffe, hot water, etc. are missing. Our appartment was not heated and inspite of constant remainders only the third day someone was kind enough to provide us with an electric mobile heater.
I admitt that the staff is friendly and willing to help in any circumstances, but what is obvious is a complete lack of management in this place. Waitresses and room maids just seem not to notice that anything is wrong... It is just like nobody told them that they must put attention to some tiny details like : bed to be made every single day, missing cuttklery at the tables, you name it.
We will definetly not come back to this place, as Ia m sure I'll find something much better around Gdańska area.
This hotel is not worth the money we paid for the stay...

Mmm interesting one this.

We arrived at Gdansk train station and my other half commented that we were driving through Beirut to get the hotel but once you get there it's worth the wait.

It was quite quiet (late Sept) but still decent weather. Reception staff we were fine, not massively helpful = we didn't get offered any tourist guides in English.

Room view was AMAZING! We were on 3rd floor, room facing the beach. Peaceful, you could hear the waves in the morning, really lovely.

The room itself was fine, bed wasn't great and only one saggy pillow! And my bedside light was plugged in in between the beds and as a result the plug had broken so there were loose wires, I just swapped it over with the desk one.

We didn't eat breakfast there seemed massively over priced for a breakfast. We ate in the hotel restaurant a couple of nights, lovely food, reasonably priced. As was the bar. I think it was the time of the year that the hotel was quite quiet so the staff made it quite obvious that they wanted us out of the bar after 11! but that was fine.

Hotel does bike hire, definitely recommend a cycle to Sopot and beyond, the cycle path runs right outside the hotel so you can't go wrong. Or take your roller blades!!!

More choices of places to eat just up the cycle path. The put next door was a bit run down but it was only 10 zl *(£2.20) for 2 large beers! Result!

Bathroom was big with a good shower.

Not a hotel if you want a lively resort but for a couple of peaceful days chilling out - perfect!

Room Tip: Ask for a room looking over the beach, you wouldn't want one stuck out the back with no balcony...

My daughter and I just spent 4 nights at the Lival Hotel. It was clean and the beds comfortable. Breakfast just OK and the dinners very poor and expensive. Considering all the costs for taxis to get anywhere it was expensive. We did however enjoy the beach promenade with beautiful walking and bicycling lanes. The Poles are very outdoorsie - all ages are walking, rollerblading and bicycling in the latest trendy sports clothes and kit. Beautiful mothers race after their biking children on rollerblades. We rented bikes near the hotel and went to fantastic Sopot. Im sure its another experience in the summer but not good for off season as centrally located hotels are in the same price class

This hotel has a great holiday location, just steps from the beach and a few minutes from the tram into the city centre. The staff were really helpful.

The only improvement I could suggest was that the Air Conditioning did not work too well and the extra childs bed was a little flimsy.

I tried to book the room using their website. The booking fee was paid and order confirmed. How surprise i was when few days later got an email stating my order was canceled; NO EXPLANATION WHATSOEVER attached in that email. I tried to ring there few times and they couldnt give me reason why AND WHEN I WAS ASKING ABOUT MANAGER - SHE'S ALWAYS ON 'A MEETING'. disgrace!

Room Tip: bad experiance

After reading a lot of reviews on Gdansk hotels, we decided to stay at the 3* Hotel Lival, and it was a great decision!
The purpose of our trip was city break + beach and we toyed with the idea of staying in Gdansk centre or doing a couple hotels - one in Gdansk one in Sopot.

Hotel Lival turned out to be perfect for our 4 day stay though! Despite being in Gdansk, it's actually right on the beach (a beautiful and peaceful sandy beach) and so was very relaxing in the morning! We ended up having quick swims after breakfast before going into town centre. One day we also walked from our hotel, along the beach, to Sopot - 6km of beautiful sand and sea - perfect!

Hotel itself is very nice for 3 stars. Room was nice and spacious for me and my mum (twin room) and we managed to get a sea view on the 2nd floor with a balconette (shame you couldnt actually sit out there) out onto the sea view side.

The room has a mini bar/fridge, desk, table, toiletries in the bathroom, around 6 towels for 2 people (possibly towel quality could have been better) and a wardrobe to hang your clothes. Beds were pretty soft and very comfy and actually felt quite wide for single beds. There is also air con for the hot summer nights.
Bathroom was bright and spotless, room was also large, brightly coloured (orange) and spotless. Double doors open out onto the sea. TV has the local channels plus german ones and an english sports one.

Restaurant downstairs served breakfast 7-10am, very good selection of hot and cold buffet. We filled up on frankfurters, scrambled eggs, cereals, fruit and pastries. Few types of juices and tea and coffee obviously there too.

We were really impressed with the staff - very very helpful, especially as we wanted a kettle but someone had already hired it out (need to be quick) - so the receptionist brought us up 2 pots of water and cups up to our room every night! They also printed the tram timetable out for us for our trips into Gdansk and recommended local restaurants.

Hotel is a bit out of Gdansk Centre (20 mins on the tram) so it is peaceful (and you hear the sea!!) but if you need nightlife, the trams work til 1am and we had no problem getting the later ones on the way back. Of course you can also get a taxi.

There is a bicycle hire place about 5 mins from the hotel and there are small cafes and restaurants around too.

Would definitely stay there again, maybe even for 1-2 weeks for total relaxation!

I have stayed at Lival several times, for business. In general, it is a brand-new, rather small, and nice hotel. The location is unbeatable, just several meters from the sea, if your room gives on this side, you can hear and see the sea, I like it very much. The service is nice and friendly, the prices are smaller than in central Gdansk. The room and bathroom were clean and OK. There was good Internet connection too. The only problem I had with the bathroom was that apparently the person who planned it was much taller than myself (I am 156 cm tall) and I had to stand on my toes to reach for the towel etc.
The owner of this hotel has a friend producing amber jewellery and it is sold there. Nothing very uncommon for hotels in Gdansk, but I must admit I have spent some money on items I like a lot.
There was one thing though that spoils this almost ideal picture. The hotel is concentrated so much on servicing the German package tours that it sometimes does not care at all for individual guests. The place is situated remotely from the center, outside the season there are no other place in the area to dine at, and the hotel restaurant often does not work until 10 pm as they declared. Once they just left me without nothing to eat, at 9:30, because "the cook has left", and the waiter was only interested in collecting tips from the German tourists, and not in organizing something for me. In other hotels, even when indeed the kitchen stops working prior to restaurant closure, one would get a salad or soup, at least, and often there are some "night dishes" or sandwiches available at the reception.
Maybe not a problem for a tourist, but for a person who comes to the city to work and returns to the hotel rather late, it is.
