Gizycko Water Tower

Attraction details
Owner description: The Water Tower was built in 1900 entirely of red unplastered bricks in the neo-gothic style with interesting external vaulting around its crown and two coats of arms over the entrance: one Mazurian and one municipal to emphasise its being part of the region. The water reservoir in the tower distributed water to all the dwellings for 97 years. Nowadays, following the great reconstruction of the interior and adding a dome and three additional floors and extending the viewing platform with telescopes, the tower has become Giżycko’s most unique tourist attraction. To reach the top, one has to climb 129 steps (or use the lift). The highest floor of the tower is 162 m above sea level and it houses a café. From this height, one can truly appreciate the panorama of the town and the surrounding areas with lakes and forests – a typical Mazurian landscape. The inside the tower houses the local museum with exhibits that illustrate the past life of the local people.

“A fun stop with terrific views”
Reviewed 7 March 2014

This converted water tower is a great place to get the lay of the land. You can take an elevator, or walk up the winding steps to the top, where you can enjoy a coffee, ice cream or other snacks while you take in the 360 view. The levels on the way up are fun stops too -- each highlighting a different aspect of the highlights and history of the Gizycko area.

“Recently renovated, very good viewpoint”
Reviewed 8 September 2013 via mobile

Fully renovated when dismissed as water tower in 1996, the tower has lost its turn-of-the-century feel for a clean more modern look. The view over the Gizycko lake is wonderful, one can also see the rest of town and a bit of inland. The collection of antique objects-memorabilia on display is curious but not unmissable. A nice cafe' occupies the top three floors (have not tried it). All in all, the view is worth the 10 zl of the ticket, particularly in a clear day.

“Beautiful Views”
Reviewed 15 July 2013

This is one of my favourite places to visit in the area. You can literally see for miles on a clear day. I have been there at night, day and during sunset and all give a different effect and I am sure you will enjoy it. The price is very reasonable too.

When you walk up the tower, it is like a mini museum, there are different artefacts on each level. Defiantly a must see if you are in the area.

“Nice views on a good day from the top, but...”
Reviewed 23 June 2013

While there are some very nice views from the top and some interesting information as you ascend via the stairs if you do not use the lift!
You cannot just go up to the Cafe for some refreshment without buying the entrance ticket.
