“So much potential...”
Reviewed 21 October 2012

We booked the Duke apartments for a week in September this year. The location is superb, in the middle of the forest, just few steps from the lake. No cars, no other buildings, no noise. Peace and quiet. This combined with a superb restaurant and excellent service would make it potentially the best hotal we ever stayed (if you like character places). I would strongly recommend to try their wild boar steak with potato dumplings - no words will describe how lovely it tastes. The lodge is a great base if you want to see Cracow as it is only 1h drive away. Or a trip to mountains, 40 min drive south. Or you can just enjoy sailing around the lake or wandering around the forest. The downside was the housing keeping. The shower head was broken, the doors weren't closing properly, the bath robes were so worn they actually had holes in them. But I guess the most disappointing was the cleaniness. The were cob webs between the window frames, dust on the shelves (you could write in it) and the toilet needed a good scrub. Upholstery on the chairs was stained and it was dangerous to touch anything in case the armchair comes off or something similar. Our friends and family who occupied the remaining rooms complained about the same. Considering that the prices are quite high for the region I would expect a spotlessly clean place, especially that issues described are easy to fix. To summarise, I would recommend this place for a fine dining experience but if you want to stay over night choose something else.

Room Tip: If your are tall and you chose a standard room ensure you get one of those with high ceiling. If...

Myself and a friend used this hotel as a base while we visited Auschwitz. Being as though it was late in the season and also the middle of the week we were fortunate to almost have the hotel to ourselves. All of the staff were extremely helpful considering neither of us spoke much Polish and were always happy to help us whenever asked.
The hotel itself is a magnificent old hunting lodge with absolutely bags of character, but beware that as a hunting lodge there are quite a few antlers and animal heads mounted on the walls. The bedrooms were very clean and tidy with our room having 1 double bed and 1 pull out bed.
The food in the restaurant was excellent and the restaurant/banquet hall itself is a magnificent room with a high ceiling, large chandelier and an impressive fireplace, and of course plenty of antlers mounted on the walls.
The hotel is situated in the middle of a large forest and right next to a lake which makes for some excellent walks where I was lucky enough to see some wild deer walking in the forest.
Overall, I would say that you would be hard pressed to find a better hotel in a better location for the money.
On a side note I would recommend visiting the Zamkowe museum in Pszczyna which is only 15km away and was owned by the same family who owned the hunting lodge.
Also if you plan to visit Aushcwitz then a taxi will cost approx 120 pln = £25 each way.

This place brings quite mixed feelings. On one hand it is really nice palace, and it looks even more awesome in reality than in photos. Rooms are in style, which is nice only to some extent. Historic locks on doors are rather frustrating and one has to learn how to exactly door could be opened, beds are also not that comfortable and a bit too small if you are high person. Location is nice, as it is in forest and there is lovely lake next to hotel. Unfortunately grounds are fenced so it is not that easy to take a walk and some gates could be closed at some times. Service is usually nice, but sometimes they get maybe untrained staff that is less than helpful. On weekends there are weddings and it is very loud in a hotel, as parties take place not only in ball rooms but also on corridors - before booking anything make sure there is no party going on as that would spoil your stay. Overall value is poor and I was not satisfied with my stay, especially for a quite hefty prices they charge I would expect much better quality of service. Only bright point is restaurant which has incredibly good food, make sure to have at least one dinner there.

Room Tip: Make sure there is no wedding or other party when you stay in hotel.

This place is like no other place we have ever stayed in our travels. Great service from check in to check out, beautiful and quiet location on an incredible piece of land (middle of a forest and overlooking a lake) It will remind you of a European fairly tale castle. The food is incredible, offering you local game (Boar, Venison, Rabbit, Grouse) and fish. Rooms are comfortable and spacious. The dining room is right out of the 18th century. We wish we had the time to have spent a week here.

I recently stayed at this hotel again twice and this time experienced none of the minor irritations of my first visit last year. The service was excellent this time. We stayed in the hunting lodge and the room was large and very comfortable, as was the bed. The food was excellent, both dinner and breakfast and the restaurant staff were great. I had made a comment in my previous review that the service was not perfect but on both of my recent visits it was faultless - the security guard even brought me an umbrella when I was walking my dog. Very much worth a visit - we will be returning again.

Room Tip: personally I very much preferred the hunting lodge as it is in a small seperate building and you can...

Old hunting lodge in the middle of the forest. We arrived during snowfall and it looked like an enchanted place, ideal for lovers. But also for businessmen like us it was ok. We stayed in luxury rooms and they were fine, even if shower was not the top and I could hear people speaking in the next room.
Breakfast was quite poor but good, should try again in summer.

Didn't stay overnight but went for dinner with business colleagues. The building is amazing and the food suited it perfectly. I note other peoples problems with the service, we didn't experience this at all.
