“Fine, Polish cuisine at reasonable prices”
Reviewed 9 July 2012

This is one of the best Polish cuisine restaurants in Poland. Very friendly atmosphere and exquisite dining experience not like in other touristy places in Krakow. It is known for being a top-spot for local high-profile citizens and some famous people. There are multiple must-haves on the menu including beef tartare, chateaubriand or bouef stroganoff. Maybe not a perfect wine selection which could use a little bit more of the New World varieties at slightly more attractive prices. Yet, this place is absolutely recommended for a friend or family dinner, nice romantic randez-vous or business lunch. Don't forget about a dessert!

“Good for what I was expecting”
Reviewed 9 July 2012

The place is decorated with a bit of a tacky taste, ome of the paintings on the wall are not inspiring yourr dinner...... Anyhow I had soup, starter and stuffed duck breast (traditional) and I have to say they were not disappointing. It is not creative cuisine, not major subtilties here... But they were correct. Particularly the duck was interesting, tasy and well executed. Prices very low with respect to standard european, well in line with local expectations.

“Not the Best Polish Food”
Reviewed 6 July 2012

I had read many reviews of this restaurant and was eager to try it. There were 5 of us in the party, all Polish and all comfortable in fine restaurants, whether in Poland or outside.

We were ushered to our table without much warmth, and needed to wait a few minutes for the rest of our party. The waiter was at best surly and rather condescending, which was common during the communist times but is rarely found today in Poland, When our guests arrived we wanted to order drinks. I always drink a Manhattan and have NEVER found a high end restaurant in Poland that could not make the drink - Pod Baranem could not. I was told they had no red vermouth, which I found interesting since red vermouth is used in many drinks. The weather was extremely hot the day we visited. We asked the waiter (the surly one) if the AC could be turned down a bit. We were told that was not possible because "other guests might complain of the cold". There were only two other guests in the restaurant with us. A few minutes later, another waiter did turn down the AC.

When the food arrived we were surprised to note that it was prepared in unusual ways. This was however not similar at all to the description the waiter provided. (We are all native Polish language speakers and all conversation with the wait staff was in Polish!)

The food was rather bland and tasteless, not seasoned at all but since we were all hungry we finished dinner and went our way. None of us will return.
