“Light and Shadow”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 April 2012

This hotel is truly a "unikat" . It is located very close to the old city centre of Cracow. So it was perfect to stroll around in this historical area at night and have just short walk back.
As this is in an old building it has definitly some charm but the rooms are tiny. About 2-3 sq metres. I almost didnt fit in the bed and there is barely any room to put luggage , clothing and other stuff you might carrying. Against my worst expectations I had a well sleep in the midget bed but could also the beer and whisky of the evening before been the reason.
The bathroom was clean but had an odd smell which the hotel staff tried to overpaint with some strong bad smelling room spray.
Breakfast is not served in the hotel - you get a voucher and can choose between two Coffee houses/restaurants in walking distance. (about 2 min).
They restaurant I selected was nice and breakfast was good but only 1 cup of coffee was included. Everything you drink extra must be paid seperatly!
Btw service was not so great - nobody explained us how to enter a night time to the hotel and when I came back first time still early in the evening nobody was at reception and nobody answered the emergeny phone. Guy from neighbor restaurant was fortunatly very helpful.

B&B Unikat has a great location in the middle of the city center. You can walk to the Main Market Square in only a minute. The guest house looks very charming and has nice rooms. The shower you will have in private rooms is the best I have ever seen. It has several shower jets which makes it a small spa shower. I took many showers when I was there because of this.

Furthermore, there is excellent service there. Not only the employees were very polite, they were also very helpful in letting me find a specific area in the city. When I said to the receptionist that I would like to attend a concert, he was already on the phone to make a reservation for me.

There is breakfast, but not in the guest house itself. You need to cross the street to eat in a cafe. This is not really a problem, you receive great food there.

Krakow is the most beautiful city I have seen so far and I will definitely go back one day. When I do, I will spend my nights again in the B&B Unikat.

The name of the place is B&B Unikat - look for the (new) sign outside. Good location at the edge of the center of town. Good Kantors a few doors away, as is the local branch of Rossmans (drugstore).

My singe room was up one floor (via the elevator), through a hallway, up another small flight of stairs.... bit of a rabbit warren. My room was newly renovated - I don't know if all rooms are - and it was superb.

It's only drawbacks were that it was a touch small and the ceiling was low (door almost scraped the ceiling...). Good bed, adequate cupboard with hanging space. Windows overlooked the street. Small TV with a couple of English channels (BBC world ? and one other),

Nice touches - a kettle and a mug, and a set of plastic cutlery. The bathroom was new and clean, and although very small the shower was nicely sized, There's even an electric towel heater.... Heating in the room was fine - kept the room nice and warm.

Wifi was free, worked well - very fast indeed.

Reception is downstairs - 24 hours. Staff was a little bit lukewarm, though. Breakfast is at a nearby bar/cafe - fairly standard fare of eggs, vegetables, toast and tea/coffee.

Great value at the price (was around 130 PLN),

Room Tip: Ask for the renovated section...

Stayed at Wilsna more than a year ago, but thought they definitely deserve a positive review on this site.
I booked it on the internet, exchanged a few e-mails with the owner who confirmed room #3 which I asked for, because I liked the look of it on their website. Located on the last floor, in the attic to be exact, it had 2 single beds, an in-room shower and a small dining table with two chairs. The room was rather large, super clean, and very comfy for two people with 2 huge suitcases.
It's just a few meters away from the Market Square and is surrounded by cafes, bars, and restaurants. Beware of spiral staircase though, will take you awhile drugging your luggage up there.
Back in 2010, we paid only 40 Euros per night, not bad for a cozy bed&breakfast with such a perfect location.

This place was fantastic! I had a single bed in my own room (which was protected by a coded lock. I also had my own bathroom outside (Try to get room 11 if this is what you're looking for, as usually you must pay a little extra for a bathroom).

Had 9 choices of breakfasts plus the option out choice (which makes it even cheaper).

Was 120PLN for one night and was exactly 1 min 30 secs from the Market Square.

Solid rooms and polite quiet guests. Will definitely come back to this place if I return.

  • Liked — So close to the Square and opt-out possibility for breakfast.
  • Disliked — nothing
