“Very pleasant stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 September 2012 via mobile

Just got back from a 3 night stay here with friends and really enjoyed it.
The rooms were basic as expected but spottlessly clean...good powerful shower. It took us about 15 to 20 minutes to walk to the main square ..plenty of watering holes en route ! We visited the small museum in the basement of the building which was very interesting especially as we had visited auschwitz the day before.
I would recommend the private taxi service that we used on crakow life.com for our airport pick up and trip to auschwitz..they were very reasonable and the driver Domenic was polite and helpful.
Would definitely come back to Krakow and would stay at the Freedom hostel again.

The price you'll pay to stay at the Freedom Hostel is so low that it's hard to justify complaining about anything. It is a hostel after all, not a hotel. We stayed here for three nights in a twin room with an en-suite so what more could you want? Well, a good night's sleep would've been nice. The main problem is the hostel consists of one long corridor (with a badly stained carpet) with the kitchen at the far end. Breakfast starts at 7am and if your room is anywhere near the kitchen (ours was) it's a constant stream of shouting and laughing students and stag weekend lads pounding past your door from very early on. There was also a very odd looking curtain on our window which was basically see-through so as soon as the sun rises the whole room lights up brightly.
The girl on reception was very friendly and told us what trams to get into town and where to go. It could've been worse I suppose. As they say, you get what you pay for.

Be ready to be woken up very early due to the noisy groups of travellers on their way to and from the kitchen, the rooms are basic but had all you need for a nights sleep if you had earplugs.
The staff are friendy and did all they could, breakfast was okay. You would find something to eat and coffee and tea always available.
15 minute walk to the city centre, but you can get the tram outside which is more than reasonably priced. 3 euro for 24 hours and other deals for 24/72 hours. For the price you pay you really couldnt expect eveything to be perfect!!!

Room Tip: Ask for a room close to reception, away from the kitchen.

For young travellers like myself this place was great, really cheap and only a few minutes walk from the main town centre. However I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone expecting more than a hostel as you had to pay for towels and there was no safe or hairdryer. For me this was no problem as at such a low price I wasn't expecting much and although basic it provided everything I needed for a trip which lasted only a few days.
On the whole this was place was great but as I previously said it is very basic.

The hostel was basic but provided everything we needed for a few days in Poland. After reading the reviews before I went, I expected noise during the night on the left side and since discovering our room was on the left side, I expected the worst. However, it was quiet on the night. The breakfast was very basic but the coffee got us set for a long day of site seeing.
The hostel was clean and the staff were helpful and were willing to offer directions whenever needed.
Krakow square was only a 10 minute walk and there were trams and buses in short distance from the hostel.
There wasn't a hairdryer in the room or free towels. There wasn't a safe in the room either, but this didn't bother us as we were only staying for a couple of nights so carried our money around with us.
I recommend Freedom Hostel for anyone just wanting to visit the city at a low cost.

Stayed here for two nights in a twin bed room just to see the city of Krakow, and it was faultless. The staff was always helpful with everything, and ordering taxis if we didn't feel like walking to the old town centre. However this walk doesnt take long anyway as it only took about 15 mins to get right to the heart of the city, just depends if its raining or not. The hostel was always clean and no problems with sounds coming from rooms next door or anything. Breakfast was basic but what do you expect for the price! Free coffee in the morning though really sorted out my hangover.

I would 100% come back to this hostel when I return to Krakow. For the price and location its perfect for exploring the city at minimum cost.

Stayed here with my girlfriend for 4 nights and found it to be excellent. Literally only a ten minute walk into the main market square, and thats if you're taking your time! From what i gather all the rooms have 2 single beds in them (im not 100% on that mind), but it was no hassle at all to push the bed together to turn it into a make shift double. Reception staff were always helpfull. Breakfast, i found, was decent and what i have come to expect from european hostels. (pate, cheese spreads, eggs, bread, cereal etc.) and was certainly a good feed before a day of sightseeing. Only slight dowside was the road outside our window was a bit noisy in the mornings if you had the window open, when it was closed it was fine, but i tend to be quite a light sleeper, my girlfriend wasn't disturbed by it at all. All in all, very good find, i imagine you'd be very pushed to find anthing better for its incredibly cheap price.

Note: there is a review further down with directions to the hostel from the airport, we used them and found it to be very helpful.
