“Great hostel in beautiful Krakow”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 June 2012

Our stay at Tutti Fruity was defiantly an enjoyable one. we spent 3 nights in the private twin room. very spacious, overlooking what i consider to be the liveliest street in old town. the location (for old town) is perfect. the staff are kind and helpful (especially Karolina, who showed us around and organised our Auschwitz tour) this place has a nice laid back vibe. defiantly would recommend to other travellers who have a budget to stick to.

Room Tip: I can only personally recommend the private room, but I'm sure the dorms are good too.

As with every review I will try to be as realistic and as honest as possible and sum up the good points and not so good! After having a horrific experience with ryanair changing our flight by some 24 hours and then being rudely treated by their call centre staff, fobbed off by gavin grace from their complaints team and us having to fork out another £100 for an extra nights stay and extra luggage this cheap city break started to become a little pricier than expected but we thought we would save money by going for a slightly cheaper accomodation than norm. Firstly the good- the staff were welcoming and helpful plus cheapness and proximity to the main square are unparalleled. So if you love being in the thick of it and/or on a tight budget tutti frutti could be ideal for you. The hostel is situated on both sides of the main street, we had a large room that sleeps 3 people for a little less than £13 each per night as there was only 2 of us sharing. (just over £8 each for 3 people). There are 2 of these rooms side by side which share everything including the bathroom and kitchen and all the 24 hour noise of the main street below, the graphic sex grunts, slurping noises and instructions from the next room . We were really lucky with the weather which meant we were rarely cold but again the necessity of the open window and lack of a fitting blind brought its own issues. There is a Pornographic flashing advertisement across the street opposite which unlike the aussies next door does go all night and the early morning sun streams in around the same time the bin men come daily at 5 just in time to see the all night party goers and bongo players home before the workmen started at 6.30. The breakfast 7-10 is basic but hey for £13 a night with breakfast, what can you expect. The beds are comfortable and appart from the toilet which smelt of stale urine and mould everywhere else was at least clean if not spotless. Sleeping only 1 maybe 2 hours a night for 3 nights meant i could take full advantage of the free wifi but took its toll and meant we were constantly tired or wired. The city is beautiful and interesting, on the whole the people are fantastic and everywhere we were pleasantly surprised by the prices. Check out the galleria shopping centre close by for some great bargains and where like throughout the city many of the females look like they stepped out of Loaded Magazine. The guides on our 2 paid trips autswichz and the salt mine (both places are must see's in my opinion) were knowledgable and very approachable and you can get free guides to the city. A meal for 2 with starters, mains, bottle of wine, coffees and a couple of double vodkas with applejuice cost just £42 at The grande grill on the main square. Krakow gets a jonjonjohanson rating of 8/10 despite the sleep issues. If you can afford slightly more check out the hotel matjeck where we stayed our first night, a ten minute walk from the centre but with its own sauna in the room and quiet environment it's a decent mid budget stay at £19.50 each per night.

We were originally put into a room in a building across from the hostel. It was an apartment with two bedrooms with a shared kitchen and bathroom. The bedroom itself was lovely but did have a thin connecting door with the other bedroom which wasn't ideal. The other facilities were not great and could do with updating and a good clean. After a not great nights sleep and inability to have a shower due to dirt and lack of overhead shower we requested to be moved into a room in the main hostel which the staff happily did without fuss or complaint just genuine concern that it may be noisier. The room we were moved to was great. Was cosy and clean with nice fresh bedding and an ability to control your own radiator which was good given the weather in krakow. Obviously with lots of other people staying there noise could be an issue but the hostel provided ear plugs which was a nice touch. The kitchen and bathrooms in the main hostel were excellent and very clean. Breakfast was excellent and provided plenty for everyone. Staff were lovely and always offered any advice you may need. The hostel has a partnership with see krakow (one of the many tour companies in krakow) which is well worthwile taking advantage of. Would definitely recommend staying here and will no doubt be returning to stay there myself.

The proximity to the main square is excellent, just 1 minute walk. Surrounded by many great cafes and restaurants, easy to access the local shops and tour companies, bit loud at night, but in a center of everything.

Room Tip: The rooms with windows on to the main street can be really nice.
