“Nice hotel, but overrated”
Reviewed 7 June 2012

Kossak is a nice hotel, but we left it with a feeling that it is a bit over-rated. We had a good stay, but I cannot rate it as excellent.

We booked "Double or Twin Room" with expectation that we'd get a double bed (we're a married couple). Unfortunately upon check-in we found that only twin bed was available. The beds were too soft for our taste and not really comfortable for a couple. The black window curtains were not long enough, the room was full of light in the morning. Air conditioning was making strange noises when turned on, but we didn't really need it. The TV had a very limited set of English-language channels, from what I remember just BBC News and Russia Today. Otherwise we were happy with the room, it was clean and looked good.

The hotel has a nice cafe on the top floor. We wanted to stay in this cafe to see the annual Krakow Dragon show on Wisla river in the evening of June 2nd. Alas, entire cafe was booked for a wedding and out of reach for people who stayed at the hotel. We were disappointed.

The breakfast had a good selection of meals. The location of hotel is convenient, 5 minute walk to Wawel castle and 10 minutes to Old Town. The hotel staff spoke good English, but in general we didn't have a problem finding English speakers during our stay in Krakow.

Kossak hotel seems to be promoting itself quite actively over the Internet. We found the "TripAdvisor 2012 WINNER" plaque at the Reception amusing, since 2012 is far from finished. The photograph is attached to our review.

Overall - Kossak is a good hotel. Will we return there on our next visit? We will check our options.

Room Tip: If you want a room with double bed, make sure to have a confirmation from the hotel beforehand.

Arrived at around 10:30 but were given our room immediately. Staff are friendly, helpful, courteous and efficient. All are a credit to the hotel. We were on the fifth floor at the rear of the hotel where the view was disappointing and there was some early noise from I guess tables and chairs being rearranged in the conference centres on the sixth floor. A mid level room with river / castle views would have been much better. Rooms are not large but perfectly adequate and kept spotlessly clean. Probably the most comfortable hotel beds I've slept in the whole of Europe. Good bathroom facilities with complimentary toiletries. The lobby bar is very quiet and underused and accordingly lacks a little character. Breakfast was excellent with a hot and cold selection. Roof terrace has good views and is very reasonably priced for drinks, snacks etc. but we were very disappointed with the food at dinner. Snails to start were tough although my wife's carpacchio was good. The wild boar main was over cooked and unappetising. A decent, farily central location about 15 - 20 minutes from the main square. I would recommend the hotel but would be wary of the Oranzeria roof top restaurant although we may have got it on a bad day.

Room Tip: If given the opportunity request a room overlooking the river and castle. Rooms at the rear have an...

The Kossak is a new hotel, only 3-4 years old. We had a two room suite on the 4th floor facing Wawel Castle
and the river. Helpful front desk staff. Big living room, adequate bedroom (no King bed), nice bathroom. Excellent location with 10-15 minute walk to both the Castle & the Rynek main square. Big supermarket a few feet out the
front door, as well as a taxi stand. Breakfast buffet was pretty good. Loved the Rynek, had 4 meals there,
can recommend Restaurant Szara . Also ate at Ariel in Jewish district. Used Krakow Discovery
for one day tour of Auschwitz & Salt Mine (about Euro 100 plus tip). They performed well.
All in all, the Kossak was a great choice for us, and good value for the money (US$192 a night).

Room Tip: Try the 2 room suites on floors 3, 4 or 5, facing the Castle.

The reviews on Trip Advisor made me choose this hotel and we were not dissapointed! As everyone says; great location, fantastic rooftop restaurant and views, great breakfast, cleanliness, friendliness... We were in a suite which was one of the nicest hotel rooms we have stayed in. It had a well stocked mini bar with such reasonable prices! Tea and coffee facilities and free daily bottled water. We had wonderful weather and lovely views of the river and Wawel Castle. There are so many directions you can walk into the Main square it's worth trying them all (all not far). You come across so many lovely restaurants and coffee shops, so reasonably priced and wonderful quality. A lot of restaurants have lovely courtyards to dine in. Krakow is a hidden gem. It's lovely and clean, people are friendly, we felt safe on an evening. There are a few homeless and drunks on the park benches (which you get in many cities) but we were never bothered by them. We did a trip to the camps through tourist information in the city who were totally efficient. Schindlers factory is worth a visit, which we just walked to ourselves and paid on entry. It's next to The Jewish Quarter and easy enough to find (with map). We will definately by revisiting and without hesitation staying at the 'Hotel Kossak'.

Room Tip: Worth paying that little extra for a suite!

The hotel Kossak is a great. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Nothing seems to be too much bother. When in Cracow I would definitely always return to this hotel. My room was large and comfortable with a fantastic view of Wawel Castle and the Wysla River. The location of the hotel is perfect - it is centrally located. Breakfast was tremendous - there was something for every traveler - no matter what their tastes were. And I am sure that the bar on the rooftop is a lovely location to enjoy a drink in the summer.

We had a lovely time in Krakow and it was made even more enjoyable staying at Hotel Kossak. Very clean modern hotel with friendly staff. The receptionist was always available and able to give advice. We had a room on the 3rd floor facing the river which was recommended here on trip advisor and it met all expectations.
If you like city breaks this is definitely a must!

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the river and castle preferably 3rd floor and above.

This is a little boutique hotel, but a very modern one located on the banks of the river about 200 metres from Wawel Castle. We arrived early and we given our room straight away. We were on the 4th floor and with 2 lifts never had to wait long to get service. Our room was modern, clean and tidy. It wasn't a huge room but with a king size bed and all the usual additions it had everything we needed. The bathroom was very clean and enough room to meet our needs. Unfortunately it had a deep bath/shower combo and with my bad knee it was difficult to get in and out but otherwise was fine. We had complementary breakfasts each day and they were quite good and with a reasonable variety. We had dinner there one night and found the food to be of a good standard and a reasonable tariff. There is a rooftop bar/cafe that was closed for most of our visit for renovations but when we did get up there it was delightful. We were able to see the castle at night in all its glory and it was beautiful. Something to rival Pragues oldtown square. I note someone mentioned it was only a 2 minute walk to the square - maybe it is in rocket shoes. It is about a 1 kilometre walk to the square and having done it at least 10 times during our stay and taking a variety of routes it takes 10-15 minutes. That said it is a level walk in a beautiful city so the time isn't wasted. One of the things that proved to be particularly advantageous was the fact that it was away from the buzz. We went to bed each night looking over the river and up to the castle and had a peaceful nights sleep. Those near the square might not have been so lucky. We would happily stay here again.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a room that overlooks the castle.
