Krakow's historic center is very easy to get around in. The tram also circles the historic center which makes it easy to get to and from the historic center if you are staying in anther part of the city. Plenty of places to eat. Many stores close up early so don't plan on late evening shopping. Be very careful with money exchange, Kantor. The rates vary and some places are really bad. In May 2014 I found that $1 would get me 3.02 zloty, 3.04 zloty and 2.29 zloty at three different places that were within 100m of each other. I also found one place which had a good rate posted outside and a really bad rate posted inside.

I live in Krakow for over 5 years, I go to the center pretty often, as a local, is impossible to not go around there at least two times per month. You have the great Cathedral, excellent coffee places and restaurants around, also you have a nice market in the middle of the square, that if you start to negotiate you can get good prices. There is also the museum in the center that open a couple of years ago, you do not need a guide for this one they have great muti-media options in several languages. Highly recommended, specially over the summer with a nice cappuccino or if you prefer a beer.

We arrived in Krackow at 6.30 am on a Sat morning and when it's deserted you see just how big the square is. The whole of the centre is easily reached on foot so no excuses for missing anything and there is a lot to see. Don't miss out on the Old Jewish Quarter.

During the day it is a thriving centre. Many bars and restaurants line the square. You have time to relax, have a coffee and watch the world go by.
