There's no key, the room is open all the time, includes during the night or when you go out. Anyone can enter the room anytime, there is no security that prevents anyone, no guest, entering the hostel.
The rooms are dirty, small and messy. We were hosted for 4 days, no time someone cleared the room and took out the trash.
The walls of the room are thin so you hear everything happening in the next door room.
The common area is in the same hallway of the rooms, it is impossible to be silent during any time of the day, even late night. The staff does nothing to ask silence for the guests, even ask at 4a.m.
There is only 2 bathroom (one men and one ladies) with 2 showers and 2 toilets for the entire hostel. And the bathroom is in the common area of the hostel.
This hostel was a terrible experience.

Booked a twin room under the name 'Pascal Rooms' on booking.com and ended up at this hostel. Wasn't clear on the website that we would actually be staying here, or even in the street where this place was! You have to walk through an unmarked door into a courtyard where the hostel is sign posted, but seeing as we were expecting to stay in 'Pascal Rooms' it was only by chance we ended up going up to find out here it was. The twin rooms are right down the end of a corridor from the hostel, but you are allowed to use the hostel facilities. Room is what I would expect for the price in Europe, wouldn't plan on spending much time there. Location is excellent, couple of minutes to the main square, about 15-20 mins from the train/bus station. Staff were reasonably friendly and helpful. Bad points are mainly the fact we wernt aware of where we were staying and it's quite noisy due to the 'hostel crowd'. We tend to avoid hostels for this reason as were not big drinkers so it would've been nice to know before we booked. Sound does travel from the common area and every door slams. And there's only BBC news in English if you wanted to watch TV, if you speak Arabic you're spoilt for choice! But it's an okay base for a couple of nights.

I am not sure about the bad reviews but maybe we are not really hard to sastisfy. The hostel was cheap and we got what we paid for and more. To get breakfast in such a low price was surprising and it is definitely NOT a normal thing for hostel. Showers were clean when we arrived and if they were dirtier later it was due to visitors who cannot behave themselves (some two spanish girls who dried their heir with a comb, with water and hair everywhere). Kitchen was pretty big, so was the common room. The computer in the kitchen was free to use (which is also not a common thing), with Wi-Fi in the rooms. Beds were a little difficult to get to (bunk beds) and the rooms were not as tidy as the common rooms. The only negative thing was a noise because due to relatively small space, everything was heard in the corridor. But the staff was very strict about it and after 23:00, they insisted on silence. We met two different receptionists, a guy and a girl, both very nice and helpful - they allowed to let our bags in the hostel storage so we could spend the day in the city without dragging it with us or paying for it at the railway station. For us, Czechs, it was relatively easy to find, because we had no problem to understand the language and the signs. It is a little difficult to find (there is no big sign above the door) but all in all, we were really satisfied. I am surprised more people don´t know this hostel, which is a shame since it is only 5-10 minutes walk from railway station and the main square.

I booked a 3 bed dorm and the 3 bed was bunk beds on each other... It was very annoying cos it was noisy when the other 2 people climbed in their beds. It was very cheap so I shouldn't complain about this. Although the showers were horrible. There was no space to put your clothes. Not even a single chair. Breakfast was gone by 9am and they didn't replace anything. Good thing was the location which was close to the main square. Also I got locked out once probably the night staff fell asleep had to wait outside 40 minutes then we gone to an other hostel to phone the hostel to let us in.

I went to Krakow with a friend to spend a few days sightseeing and visiting Auschwitz, just for a mini-break. We booked this hostel as it was REALLY cheap, and we were realistic about what we were going to get!

The location was very good, it was about a 10-15 minute walk from the train station that we'd arrived at, and fairly easy to find. It was a stone's throw from the main part of town, yet we were far enough away that we weren't kept awake all night with traffic noise and music.

Upon arrival, we were slightly scared as the outside of the hostel looked run down, and had graffiti. It smelt weird as we ascended the stairs to get to reception as were filled with trepidation.

But we shouldn't have worried. All in all, the hostel was small and friendly. Whilst the decor was slightly run down, the rooms themselves were basic but had everything you need. We had booked a twin room, and our beds were comfier than they looked, and everything worked, the lights, the shower, the TV and all the plug sockets.

For travelling on a budget, we had no complaints.

The best part of this hostel was the incredibly friendly staff! The reception was manned 24/7 which was reassuring, as anyone would have to get past reception to get to the rooms. We had asked one of the staff some questions about our next days plans, late one evening, and we awoke the next morning to find that she had written out lots of directions for us, as well as the bus numbers etc, which was really helpful!

They didn't tell us when we booked that we'd have to pay a "tourist tax" but it was only a couple of pounds.

For a cheap place to stay, it was quite decent. We got a good night's sleep every night.

The free breakfast was fine, cereals and breads and jams. Nothing flashy, but definitely appreciated as we were paying so little for our stay anyway!

Room Tip: The dorms looked fairly cramped, with 3-tier bunkbeds. If you're only staying a few nights, con...

The atmosphere was depressing. Dark and dingy and just sucked the happiness out of me!

The showers were fairly dirty though not disgusting. The rest of the hostel was clean.

Seemed to be a different staff member each day. Most were helpful, one had a BIG attitude problem, or I caught him on a bad day. The kitchen was a good size for the size of the hostel (though wasn't as busy as high season i guess)

The locker was tiny I couldn't fit my hand luggage in even, just a satchel and coat.

The beds were ok, slept fine in them. The room was big although the bunks were triple ones. I managed to get a bottom bunk as it wasn't packed.

There was a projector that projected a huge picture of football onto the wall which was really good. The location was great too, being 30 seconds from the old town and 10 seconds from major tram/bus routes.

It was really cheap, only about 5 quid. But to be honest I'd rather have paid more, stayed a bit further away from the square The atmosphere was just so depressing!

After getting my bearings at the central railway station, it was easy to find the street the hostel on. However, it was at night so I passed it because the sign is not well lit and it's in the Polish name, not the anglican name that I booked under (Benedict Hostel) and you have through a courtyard first. Climbing up the steps, there is a funny smell that I couldn't quite place, but i definitely smelled it every time i had to go up those stairs. The was only one person at the desk, so the poor thing was running around trying to accommodate everyone so it took about 15to 20mins before she could check me in. The rooms are tiny, but they squeeze people in using 3 story bunk beds. The people at the top have almost no head room. But it was clean. The bathroom was another story; only one bathroom for each gender for the entire hostel. The female one had only 2 shower stalls and 2 toilets. There was a line in the morning just to brush your teeth. And the drainage in the showers was bad because there was always water on the four. You could tell that both bathrooms used to be one room. The Kicthen was small but sufficient. Free breakfast was basic continent with cheese and cereal, which is not always common. The location was great, but I am glad I only had to stay one night!
