My wife and I stayed at this hotel between the 19th – 24th November and enjoyed every minute. As mentioned by earlier reviewers, the location may not be to everyone’s liking but we didn’t mind it at all. A taxi fare into the city centre cost £5/£6 whereas a tram ride (no.1 or 14) cost 50p and was much more interesting, tickets can be bought very easily at a kiosk beside the tram stop which is a 10 minute walk from the hotel. Taxi and the tram rides both take similar times but we felt the tram coming out from the city was slightly quicker during the evening rush hour.

The Orient was very quiet and relaxing both inside and outside, we sometimes felt we were the only guests but the restaurant was popular in the mornings. Our third floor room was clean, cosy but otherwise fairly basic, only a shower (no actual bath) with a plentiful supply of powerful hot water. The bed was over 7 feet long and about 6.5 feet wide, the mattress wasn’t as thick as we’re accustomed to but we believe all Polish mattresses might be the same, the linen and towels were changed daily.

The breakfast buffet selection was huge, lots of different cheeses and cold meats but the waitresses would gladly serve us freshly cooked eggs and bacon when asked. The choice of evening dinner also catered for all tastes, the bill for a beautifully presented 3 course meal with wine for two people rarely came to over £20.

The indoor swimming pool was terrific, as were the Jacuzzi and the sauna (a small charge), there were no beauty services available but the very friendly and helpful reception staff booked my wife in for a manicure at an outside salon. The staff also booked us trips to the Wieliczka Salt Mine and Auschwitz – both tours should not be missed; an organised taxi collects clients from the hotel and drops them off at a central coach collection point.

For value for money, the Orient Hotel is ideal; we would definitely return if we had the opportunity.

The Hotel Orient is a 4* hotel sited on the border of Krakow and the suburb of Nowa Huta, and is about 5 miles from the city centre. Its location in the grounds of an office complex is ususual, but don't let that put you off. The hotel was built in 2000, and contains a swimming pool and Jacuzzi, as well as a fitness suite and restaurant. Free internet access is available from the "Business Centre", a small office just off Reception.

The rooms are spacious, and contain a well equipped bathroom with a shower. Rooms are air conditioned, plus opening windows.

The breakfast is a substantial buffet, and, on request, the staff will prepare fried eggs etc for guests. A wide choice of cereals, fruits and breads is supplied, plus the usual breakfast extras. Dining in the hotel each evening, our bill for 6 meals, including drinks, came to £37.50.

A bus route pases in front of the hotel site, or a 10 minute walk takes guests to a main tram route, Tram 1 takes you direct to the city centre. A 48 hour tram and bus pass costs a mere 18.5 Zloty, about £3.50.

The Hotel Orient would not suit everyone, But for a traveller wanting to enjoy the delights of Krakow on a budget it is hard to beat. Booking with a UK travel agent, our flights and 3 nights B&B accommodation at the Hotel Orient cost just £99!

The Orient is a nice clean modern hotel with a lovely swimming pool. The bedroom and bathroom were both spacious. Breakfast was excellent with bread, cold meats, cheeses, pastries, eggs & smoked salmon all on offer. The situation in Nowa Huta in a business/residential area isn't in the centre of Krakow but seems a very safe area. Tram stop Centralna is about 5 mins walk from the hotel & it takes about 5-10 mins to get into the centre of town from there. Much more fun than a taxi!
